  1. Maybe it's just an issue for those of us born in 1959.... I never felt like a boomer either.
  2. This part of the forums ("Answers") is specifically for people that want to ask questions about various aspects of how SL works (or doesn't work). When I was new I learned a lot by just skimming through the Answers section and reading the answers to various questions that caught my attention. As far as in-world groups, check out some of the locations for newcomer friendly places in the Destination Guide, and look for a group joiner at their location. Several that come to mind are Happy Hippo Building School (HHBS) and NCI (New Citizens Inc.).
  3. Perhaps it's not shown because whenever a tax amount changed for a jurisdiction, they'd need to go though all the accounts to update dashboard amounts (for example, if a local entity had an election where something passed to raise the local sales tax amount). When it's just looked up and calculated at the time of payment, it should always be the most current amount for that location. I also noticed that 2 other subscription type sites which recently started displaying info regarding sales tax for U.S. accounts also do not show the tax amount, but show the product amount with "plus sales tax" for U.S. accounts.
  4. Whether or not you're a premium member does not have any affect on using HUD's. What type of HUD's are you having problems with, and when you experience the problem of not being able to use the HUD's, are you on a parcel which allows scripts to be ran? (you can check the 'about land' to see what permissions are set for the parcel).
  5. If something like this was put in place it should be optional. I go to places where the avatars might be spread out over a larger distance that 10 meters and I would be upset if the system automatically did not render everyone in sight, based on the graphic settings I was using regarding draw distance, complexity and number of imposters. I rarely go to big shopping events, and if I do rarely do I go when they first open, so I've never felt the need to de-render other avatars or to 'show friends only'. A viewer or system solution for one problem in a specific situation (crowded shopping events that have just opened) should not cause negative behavior change or issues for other situations.
  6. Are you using a system head, or are you wearing a mesh head (and if so, which one)? Also, is the shape you're wearing modifiable? With mesh heads, there's not as much extreme variation with the shape sliders (and some of the sliders don't do much at all on mesh heads).
  7. Yes, I agree there needs to be different forms of presenting the info for different types of learners. I think the Guidebook was a big step forward, and hopefully this new series of videos will be a big step forward for those who want something visual rather than just reading something. It will be good to have some updated LL videos. Whenever one of my grandkids wants to learn how to do something, whether it be mods for games they play, or how to draw a particular thing, or how to sew, crochet or knit, the first thing they do is search for a video tutorial.
  8. That is true about the Guide Book index having a TP link at the bottom which says "Welcome Island" but apparently is "Welcome Back Island". However, the Guidebook does have quite a bit of good information and different ways to find other places and events to go to, how to tell where you are, how to set LM's and how to set a Home position. Much better in my opinion than just the portals with no other info back when I was new.
  9. You don't have to be using the Firestorm viewer to ask questions here. It's fine to be using the standard SL Viewer, however, it's helpful to mention that in your questions, so that when people answer they can take that into account and try to show the buttons from the standard SL Viewer (or at the very least they can mention their pictures are from a different viewer). There are people that use other viewers than Firestorm, or that keep a copy of the standard SL viewer installed as well, for answering questions when they know the person asking is using the standard SL viewer.
  10. When you visit stores that sell AO's, you should be able to try each one out, so that you can see how the stands, sits, walks, etc., look on your avatar. I would not buy an AO without being able to try it out, and I also would not buy one without going to multiple stores - some are more expensive than others, so you want to try out enough different ones, from different creators, so that you feel pretty certain that you are buying the one that suits you best.
  11. If it's an ongoing situation, I would file an AR each time I saw the alleged TOS violation occurring, noting that prior AR's had been filed for that same situation, so that a history of the ongoing situation can be seen by the Governance Team. My understanding is that the Governance Team assess the alleged TOS violation not only by the screen print provided in the AR, but also through data they find in their internal logs, which aren't kept forever, so I think prompt filing of AR's when a situation occurs is wise.
  12. I only found this to be true if the display name was close enough (or unique enough as well as being close enough) to the legacy name, so that the legacy name was enough of a match to show up near the top of the search results. However, searching for a display name like "Mist" did not result in the avatar's legacy name being returned at all, as "Mist" is not the beginning part of her legacy name. (This is using Legacy Search in Kokua viewer). I have my preferences for nametags set to show both legacy (user) name and display name. I don't know if that also affects how names are displayed in groups, but when I look at a list of group members, if the account has a display name I see the display name followed by the legacy name in parentheses. I think the only way to be certain that you are seeing the correct account in people search is to use the legacy name.
  13. A lot of that type of information is in the "Welcome Island Guidebook" that is part of the viewer - I think it's been hidden away by TPV's, but is more prominent in the LL viewer for new accounts. it doesn't go into as much detail as adjusting EEP settings, but it does cover moving your avatar & camera, nearby chat, IM and voice, interacting with objects, changing your avatar (among the other starter avatars in inventory), avatar attachments, and finding places to go. Basic info, but a good amount of general info for getting started. People come to try SL for so many different reasons and purposes, and like to learn by different means, and there is so much to learn about SL, that I think it wouldn't be possible to come up with one comprehensive manual or tutorial that would work for everyone - or be even looked at by many. The Knowledge Base contains a lot of information about core things to know, and even that may not be complete, but it's a good place for learning the basics of general areas. I don't really think SL is the type of place where you can create an account and expect to be given all the information that you need to know about SL in one small package that won't challenge one's length of attention span. You need to be given info about the basics, sure, but then I think it's up to the individual to follow-up on learning about areas that interest them.
  14. There are dragons out there during RP, generally, but not any out flying during the Gather 😞 There was a thread fall however*, and I left the dance to run around with a flamethrower helping the ground crew burn the thread that hit the ground. *dragons flying the fall must have been too high up to be seen
  15. Have you tried the animation HUD for the head - switching it to some other mouth animation and if that works, then setting it to no mouth animation? I've found that works after I've used some type of attached food that includes an eating animation that sometimes leaves the mouth stuck in a strange shape even after the food has detached and the eating animation has stopped.
  16. No, I don't believe so. As far as I'm aware each account can only have 1 linden home.
  17. Over the years I have tried just about all the major 3rd party viewers, but Kokua is the one that I like the best, and the one I have used for the longest period of time. I use the Kokua viewer because it has the default SL viewer style splash screen which I really like, is updated after each LL default viewer update, and has the 2 things from 3rd party viewers which I wish were in the default SL viewer (property line display in the mini-map and the larger texture memory size).
  18. That works in the default SL viewer and several other third-party viewers as well.
