  1. Shapes are really the easiest thing to modify and create in SL, though it takes some understanding of anatomy and proportions to make a good shape. The mechanics of how its done is very easy, just select "Edit Shape" from the menu on your avatar and play around with the sliders. You can move them around to see what effect each one has on your head and body. Different heads respond in different ways and each head has its own limits, so there is no "one size fits all" approach. It's just a matter of experimenting, and if you make a copy of your shape before you start, it doesn't matter if you end up with something you don't like; just delete it and start over (with a new copy). If you're not already an artist, it's worth looking at some art tutorials that talk about human anatomy and proportions, both for faces and for overall body shapes. Common mistakes made in SL are often arms too short, legs too long, head too small. Unless your avatar is very short, you'll probably need to max out arm length and head size to 100, and even then, if you're very tall (like me) it won't be enough.
  2. If you're looking for 19th Century American (think Prarie rather than London High Society), Arwen's Creations has a couple of suitable styles. There's also a Scottish Highland outfit of the period too. For more the London style, Cog & Fleur for sure. Also Just Because has a couple.
  3. It's normal for businesses to be closed over Christmas. Employees need time off with their families.
  4. I don't think this is the wrong forum. Part of the problem with Freya (despite that it's one of my favourite bodies and I wear it a lot) is that it's outdated, and mostly replaced by Belleza Gen-X and even Reborn. Most cmmercial shape makers are making shapes for the newer heads and bodies. That said, it's easier to base your shape on the HEAD, not the BODY. You don't need to buy a shape made for the same head and body combination you wear, just look for the right head. Then, copy your numbers from your previous Catwa shape (Body, Torso and Legs tabs) to your new Lelutka shape. (You need to make sure the shape you buy is modifyable). Basing your shape on the body instead means that you have many more tabs to copy manually. I used Catwa for years (Margeaux, then Queen) until I switched last month to Lelutka Inez. I used the shape included with the head pack as a starting point and adjusted the sliders until I got it looking the way I wanted. Then I make four copies of that shape, one for each body I use, and I copy the body, torso and legs numbers from my four previous Catwa shapes to my four new Lelutka shapes. When I tested the new Raven head, I made a copy of one of my Inez shapes, renamed it Raven, and started from there. It didn't need much adjustment.
  5. Adventures of Dust. It's lgbt friendly but not a sex/hookup place. Male-focussed but anyone welcome. As with the rest of SL, people tend not to "just hang out" but events are busy, daily usually from either noon or 2pm, up to around 8pm SLT. He'll need to join the group because each event is at a different place within the region. Local chat is very active during events. If your friend is an old-timer, he may remember Boots Beach - it has that kind of vibe (and at least one regular who I recall from BB).
  6. Raven is really nice. Managed to get it very similar to the look I have with Inez. Apologies for the shine, I forgot to turn it down. Raven: Inez: The main difference is the nose, which is a little too "cute" on Raven, whereas on Inez its more straight. But overall - the best of their Christmas gifts so far, I think.
  7. Well this has happened because according to Facebook's TOS, accounts for avatars are prohibited.
  8. I had a look through the debug settings and I can't find anything, so it appears to be not possible to control this in the SL viewer.
  9. I really wish there was more for Erika. Even the fe stores that put the odd thing out here and there, like Aleutia, don't include Erika in their whole range. If Erika had as much to wear as Maitreya, it's the only body anyone woul ever need; you can do any shape with it from super-chubby to stick-thin and flat-chested. And I love those boots.
  10. Found your name in another group. Or here on the forum. Or saw you in-world somehere. Or, you're well-known enough that they knew your name anyway. And in any of those cases, added you to their spam-list manually.
  11. You're not breaking the rules because - 1) The contest is free to enter 2) The winner is not random The people IMing you are clueless, or (worst case) competitors or people with a grudge against you, wanting your game/region to go away. If they persist, ban/block them.
  12. I don't mind timed demos tbh, as long as they're actually free and not L$1. Picking up a spare or two is trivial. But a timed demo that is not free, is an instant no-buy. For a lot of non-clothing items, where the demo is effectively a fully functional product, I don't really see any alternative. I tested a bunch of Bandit boats a while back, before making up my mind, and each one poofed after 10 minutes. I had a fun afternoon hopping back and trying them again and again before finally deciding on the 55. This, I swear, is the real reason.Especially those dreadful stores where demos cost more than L$1.
  13. The other issue is that many store owners are no longer active in SL, but the Marketplace store continues to exist in-perpetuity. So its not just a matter of the in-world store moving, but being gone altogether, along with the creator. There needs to be a warning flag on a marketplace page if the creator has not logged into SL or to the MP within, say, 12 months.
  14. Most of the things I see people complaining about or demanding action on are things that they can already control by themselves. An ugly build next door? Derender it (yes, use Firestorm already). Bots in a club? Go to a different club. Bots in your house? Change your land settings or use a security orb. Landlord took your money and ran? Learn to not pay more than a week's rent in advance. Someone being rude to you? Mute them. Store owner being rude to you? Buy from a different store. Ex is harrassing you? Use an alt and stay away from the places they know you go to. Someone broke an actual RL law? Abuse-report it. This is the only category that Linden Lab is certain to take action on (if guilt is proven). The problem is not that they don't have the choice, it's that they are coming from a place of over-entitlement and the choices don't satisfy their need for uptimate power. These are the people who will call a customer service line in RL and demand that someone is fired.
  15. By the use of the term "not listed in my mailbox" I am assuming that you have a Linden Home in Bellisseria. There are two ways to change your house in Bellisseria. 1) Stay within the same theme, and choose a different house within that theme. This is the 4 or 8 options you have in your mailbox. You can only have one of those options within your particular current parcel. 2) Abandon your current parcel, then go to the land page on the website and pick a different theme. Then you'll get a new parcel with a whole different set of new options in your new mailbox. As for which themes you're more likely to be comfortable in - my avatar is over 7ft tall and I find the ones that are more comfortable for my height are the Stilts, Chalets, Fantasy, Newbrookes and Log Houses. Especially when opting for the open-plan versions of these. The ones I find more difficult are the Traditionals, Victorians, Sakuras and Campers There are two other options: 3) Ignore the house altogether, set up a platform at or above 2000m high, and place whatever house you like that you have purchased from the marketplace or a store. You need to be aware in this case that the land impact of your house will count against the land usage of the parcel, whereas if you use one of the provided houses, it doesn't count. 4) Learn how to adjust your camera angle. I find this is absolutely critical if your avatar is above about 6ft. I can explain how to do this if you have Firestorm, but I can't help with the official viewer or any other. I have no idea what "LHSuite" is. There is no Linden Home with this name, but it might be the name of a third-party add-on.
  16. I just tested this with an alt, and can confirm that the knocking sound only occurs when clicking a door, and it is quite loud. There might be a sound on the window too but if there is, it's so faint I can barely hear it. No sound at all when clicking on walls, floor or any other part of house. If your experince is different from that above, you maybe need to raise a support ticket because your house is bugged (I had somethng similar happen with a houseboat once, when it was doing strange things and giving ne error messages every time I clicked on a wall or floor). I agree that giving access to everyone just to stop the sound is not a great solution.
  17. Open plan would have been fantastic, especially with the single-story ones. Before trying the new houseboats I'd gone for the new open plan Traditionals which I love (though still find them all a bit small, but the open plan does help with that, specially the Winchester (Windsor?) which is my favourite.
  18. @cunomar CZ Slim. And there is a LOT of androgynous clothing coming out for it; it seems to be leapfrogging into the Maitreya/V-Tech slot as the body of choice for femboys. Inithium is also launching a slim vrsion of Kario.
  19. @Saranghada - Check first that the place is public. Pretty much all houses in SL are private property, they require land and are not free. The owners are not going to be happy if some random stranger has a landmark and keeps appearing there. The only way to get a free house is to make friends with someone who is willing to share theirs with you.
  20. I've always wanted to like houseboats but never did, really. I was keen to try the new styles so I grabbed one on Monday to give it a try. And... I'm kinda weirded out by them. Externally they look great but interior, the layouts are.. strange. The two single-storey ones both have exterior doors in rooms that can really only be used as bedrooms (unless you decide that you don't want the living room area overlooking the water - which kind of defeats the object of having a houseboat at all). Of the two two-storey ones, the Doc Holliday has no water view upstairs, and the Jolly Roger has no exterior acess to the water (plus, it's just too darn big). Also two of them have the main entrance on the opposite side from normal. After messing with all 4 styles for a few hours I gave up, tossed it back and decided that houseboats are officially my least favourite theme of all.
  21. Hey, it works in the fairy-tales. If we kiss you, do you turn into a handsome royal?
  22. Here's an interesting anecdote that you might not know. You've heard the phrase "a year and a day", right? Well, it doesn't actually mean a whole year plus a day. It just means a year, because that extra day is Samhain/All Hallows Eve, which was considered to be not actually part of the year. And now it's almost Yule - where did all the time go?
  23. The name tag can be moved using debug settings. You can drop it underground. As for mesh body etc, if you attach all your body, head, hair and rigged clothing to HUD attachment points instead of their usual ones, and wear a full body alpha, then YOU will see yourself as you should be, but everyone else will see you as invisible. Note that this won't work if you are BOM - you'll need applier skins for this to work. If you're BOM, everyone else will see your naked, doughy system body. It also only works for rigged attachments. The main thing that can't be changed however, is the presence of your dot on the minimap.
  24. I think it mostly goes a bit like this - User is 25 and female in RL. She wants her avatar to look about 20 so she aims for a look that's about 5 years younger-looking than her RL self. What she is blissfully unaware of however, is that she actually looks closer to 17 than to 25 in RL, so she ends up making an avatar than now looks like it's actually 12 yet sincerely believes that it looks like 20. It's actually no surpsise that the trend for hyper-curvy bodies has taken over. There's no way anyone would believe these avatars weren't children, if they used Maitreya bodies.
  25. If you can afford to join that group, you can afford to rent your own place instead.
