  1. Linden Lab can only moderate when someone submits an Abuse Report. It likely won't be dealt with quickly enough to stop it happenning at the time, but if the TOS is being broken, they will eventually act on it. In the meantime, yes, it is 100% your own responsibility to keep yourself safe. If you don't feel safe at the adult ones, try setting home in a moderate one. Or join one of the newbie groups and set home on their land. Both the Firestorm Gateway and the Shelter have "set home here" spots, and the land in both of these places is moderated. There are plenty of others too. Just look in Search for "Set Home spot".
  2. The term "Safe" was never intended to imply that its safe for visitors. Safe hubs are on Adult land whereas Info hubs are on Moderate or General land. Safe in this context means that no matter what state of dress (or undress) you happen to be in, you'll not be breaking any rules if you get randomly sent there.
  3. Its a trademark of one particular head maker. What I never understood though is, 1) Why are they so small? and 2) Why are they red? Brains are supposed to be grey.
  4. On the occasions I've been landless and needed to set home at an infohub, I usually did so somewhere out of the way; on the roof or in an otherwise deserted corner, and kept my camera view directed away from the crowds. Also (on Firestorm) you can set preferences to just not render objects like this, thus protecting your graphics card.
  5. Put that sweater on, Matty. You'll catch your death, dressed like that in this weather.
  6. Saturday 14 December there is a bellydance party at Chiaroscuro. Indian, Arabic, Turkish... and more. DJ Lysana will be providing the tunes so come and shake off any pre-holiday tension. At least two costume contest winners with cash prizes. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Chiaroscuro/75/97/2001
  7. I have a folder like that too. I try to sort and empty it at least once a week. Right now, there's nothing in it.
  8. Based on my experience of being on the committee for organising a major in-world event, and also with business experience in RL, I would say definitely in-world, pixel-to-pixel meeting, where the number of people involved is around a dozen or fewer. Our organising committee had regular committee meet-ups in-world, but they were once a month, and the rest of the time we communicated by IM or email. We would get more done and more decisions agreed-on in two hours face-to-face than we would in an entire month of IMs/emails. However, when you start getting a LOT of people, more than about a dozen, then a forum is better. Mainly because when a lot of people are gathered face-to-face, the chat will be dominated by a few of the more confident people, while others hold back, either because of social awkwardness/anxiety or just because they can't get a word in edgewise. In that case, using forums is a way of allowing those people to contribute also, when they might not wish to do so in a group setting. Body language is not really a thing in SL. We are using pre-programmed animations that are just cycled-through in our AO, or part of the furniture we're sitting on. We're not reacting to anything that's being said in-world. I mean you could crazy-click your face animation hud if you wanted to but if you're doing that, you're not going to have time to participate in the actual discussion. And who would notice anyway? I certainly don't cam around in a meeting to look at other avatar's faces. I'm looking at the slideshow or at the notecards that are being passed around, or looking at local chat. And anyone who uses sounds and gestures in a meeting deserves to be booted off the committee. 😡
  9. All of these things are "No Transfer", they cannot be sent to anyone else, not even your own alt. I have a TON of male stuff including a Signature Gianni body that I will never use again and would love to give away, but it's impossible. One alternative option for a free mesh body and head is this one: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/RothTooRC1-Bakes-On-Mesh-Blue-Leather-T/18140733 It's Bakes-on-Mesh-ready so you can wear any classic skin and system layer clothes on it, no need to buy appliers (compared with other free bodies that do not allow you to change the skin at all). The pack includes the clothes and hair too. The body and head are separate so you can wear both, or either one. Also do visit New Resident Services at Lawst Paradise; they have a freebie village with some decent stuff for avatars under 365 days. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Lawst Paradise/218/30/25
  10. Mynachllwyd is indeed Welsh; it means "Grey Monk" (Llwyd = Grey, Mynach = Monk).
  11. Another weird thing I've been doing of late, despite having a lovely landscaped parcel with a four-storey castle to live in, I spend 99% of my time at home in a plain unfurnished skybox. I occasionally change the wall texture for the purposes of taking photos. In fact last week I picked up the castle and the forest, since I'm not using them, and put half the land up for rent. I'm considering abandoning it altogether and returning to Bellisseria; I think I want a houseboat this time.
  12. Likewise, I can't shop with anyone else, in SL or RL. I just want to get to points A, B and C and then go home. Also hunts. Nope. Cannot cope with those at all. Just show me the vendor where I can pay full price instead of wasting time better spent elsewhere.
  13. Sometimes. If you get the error saying "beginning the logout process" then it's kicked the ghost and you can log in right away. But if you get the error saying "you cannot log in until x time" then you're stuck until the region is restarted. I haven't seen that error in a very long time.
  14. It's a ghosted avatar, which means that the logging-off process didn't complete properly. They think they're logged out, but the avatar is still there. If they try to log in again, they probably won't be able to. As advised, ask your estate owner to re-start the region, that will kick them out.
  15. For me it has to be Greville Oh, the owner of Chiaroscuro and organiser of Fantasy Gay Pride, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019. I've known him for two years now. Despite suffering from a number of disabilities and chronic health conditions, Grev works harder than even any able-bodied person I know. Not just in SL, but in RL too, where he works as an advocate for disadvantaged adults; helping them navigate the UK's very complicated legal and benefits systems. He is truly an inspiration to me.
  16. I spotted Patch in the Bellisseria community group - mentioned it to him and 20 minutes later he said it should be recovering now. And it appears to be, I can get back in.
  17. Same for me, its been on-and-off for me all week, but seems to be entirely down now.
  18. This avatar used my regular shape, which is over 7ft tall. Very unlikely that anyone seeing me inworld would have assumed that my avatar was underage.
  19. There's nothing wrong with being a child avatar or purchasing them off the MP, though to be fair your example looks dreadful; it was hard to make a child avatar back in the early days when no-one made skins for them. Modern child avatars look more like this: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Bebe-Youth-Fitted-Mesh-Body-20/17855800. It is not against the TOS to be a child in SL, it's not even against the TOS to enter an Adult-rated region as a child. So there is no reason to restrict the sale of child avatars. Doing so is the same as preventing people from buying a car, just in case they might drive drunk.
  20. Granted, but it was caused by a global thermonuclear war and all life on Earth is now dead. I wish it was perpetual summer, and only ever rained at night.
  21. Yep, I usually take off ALL my huds before leaving home and I also use Firestorm's built-in AO. Where possible, I make copies of my hair, clothing and shoes in my favourite colours and delete the scripts form those too. Unfortunately most hair and clothing these days is no-mod and has no option to delete scripts, which is annoying. Speaking of Firestorm's AO, is it possible to add animations to it for things like bento wings and tails? If so, how?
  22. Yes that's exactly it. Clearing cache and cookies has sometimes helped but not every time.
