1. No, this person can NOT access your Lindens. You have removed the object which asked you for permission to take money from your account, this permission only applied to that single object. It is not, and I repeat it is NOT a blanket permission. You are safe now and you can move your money from your alt back to your main avie. Now, as for the object you bought. It is an affiliate vendor. This is a vendor which allows you to sell the items on behalf of the creator and receive a percentage of the proceeds of each sale if they are made through that vendor. If you owned a store, you would place this affiliate vendor in your store so people could buy those pants there. In the case of this affiliate vendor, it would be a rather generous 50% according to the marketplace listing, most affiliate vendors which I even used would only give you a 10% share or less. So what happened was that you mistakenly did not buy yourself a pair of pants but a vendor. Vendors need permission from their owner to take money from their account, in order to pay customers back (in rare cases) or to give a cut of each sale to someone else. I hope this clarifies things a bit. EDIT: These are the pants you intended to buy: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/noho-Mesh-Capri-Pants-1-box-black/13612311 And this is the vendor you actually bought: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Affiliate-Vendor-NOHO-Capri-Pants-1-black/13626092
2. This is a clear case of a corrupted cache. Just clear your cache, reboot, and all will be fine again. This also sometimes happens after visiting other grids, like OSGrid for example. It's perfectly harmless but can be a bit surprising if you don't expect it. This screenshot shows where to find the clear cache button in Firestorm. If you use a different viewer, then it may be in a similar location.
3. Try logging into a different sim. You could try Hippo Hollow or Hippotropolis (both Linden-owned land).
4. If I were to run into this Ignoring the (excellent) solutions already given, if I were to run into this problem I would prolly do something like: default { state_entry() { list names = ["bob", "User With A Super Duper Long Display Name", "Riley 横バ火", "hrHUffhrUrrSgF39457"]; integer n; for(n=0;n<llGetListLength(names);++n) { string newname = llGetSubString(llList2String(names, n), 0, 7); names = llListReplaceList( names, [newname], n, n ); } llDialog(llGetOwner(), "Random text", names, DEBUG_CHANNEL); } } This will truncate ALL names to 8 characters, and as long as the script were for my own use, it would probably have been good enough for me 🙂 Now, in addition, I have been looking on the wiki if there's a way to detect multibyte characters, but I was unsuccessful. It would have made for a much more elegant solution if there was such a method. TL;DR The solutions given by the others are probably (definitely) much better than mine, but I wanted to put in my two lindens worth anyway 😉
5. HUD sounds can only be heard by their wearer, they are never heard in-world. If you want it to be heard, wear the HUD as an attachment (to your neck, leg, hand, nose, whatever)
6. Hugo's Design (http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Sheer/235/134/25) has a beautiful mesh catsuit for L$ 495. I own this catsuit and I have no complaints at all. Autohide works flawlessly, the catsuit is materials enabled and the wearer has a choice between using baked textures (textures that have the highlights painted on them) and, baked textures+materials, or materials only. It adjusts to the body's shape exactly as you (should) expect from a fitted mesh item 🙂 The catsuit comes with a HUD which allows the wearer to choose from 20 different colors of latex, the HUD also allows the wearer to modify the level of gloss/environment, glow, transparency, fullbright, tinting of individual parts (like the seams on the neck and cuffs, and a stripe down the side of the catsuit) and more. Note that the "prerelease" part in the picture means that at the moment it's Maitreya-only, but that other bodies (Like Tonic, Slink, Belleza, etc) will be supported in the future,
7. Good luck, but please provide a Linux version as well.
8. A Lady's Secret said they will be working on one, but I don't think they have started on one yet.
9. Could it be that they are gone because you sold the no copy item?
10. The picture is using the demos because that was all I had at the time. I think I mentioned in the post that the pics were taken back when I was trying to decide which mesh body to buy. Needless to say (but saying it anyway) that Belleza was the winner.
11. Did you consider contacting the creator of the dress? Chances are that the model and the dress' creator are one and the same person.
12. I don't know where you got your info, I got all three and when using the exact same shape (try using the default LL shape), you can quite clearly see that Isis is slim, Venus is the middle and Freya the curvy one. This has been the case since at least 2015 when I bought the Venus set (which in those days included all 3 bodies) Here's a pic from when I tried to decide on a body, not yet knowing that the Venus set came with all bodies, Venus, Isis, and Freya so at the time I only tried demos of Freya and Iisis.
13. The one thing which you didn't mention trying was teleporting out to a location where you know your scripts will work. Try that.
14. Well, I have seen names like "Random39582832746289 Resident". Good luck remembering that 🙂
15. As Ethan said, it's a quality over quantity thing. This defeats the people that would cheat by having a bot that would pop in and out of their listed location and thus try to generate fake traffic.
16. But but but... they do it on TV all the time!!!!! Seriously though, what you said in the quote here is something I have tried to tell people for AGES and not only in the context of graphics. I have known a few people that would download low-quality MP3 files (like 128kb/s and less), then transcode these files as 320kb/s in the belief that it would magically increase the audio quality. As far as pics and textures go, I have learned to resize before upload when I first got myself a website in the 90s. You want the pics to load fast, not have to wait 5 minutes on a 14k4 modem connection (about 5kb/s at best) before that 800x600 pic loads which you are displaying at 120x90. From there I learned that when you do the resizing yourself and not rely on the browser (or in SL's case, the viewer) to adjust the size of your pics/textures, you can control the image quality by choosing the resampling algorithm and saving it in the dimensions you expect it to be used at.
17. Momo chan, the "middle" one is Venus. Isis is the "skinny" one and Freya is the curvy one. they are all great, but Freya is my fave because, well, I prefer to have a bit of padding on my body without appearing overweight :-) Alyona, that was a great explanation, and you have listed all the reasons why I love my Freya. You are much more eloquent than I am, and thank you for that.
18. Have your partner relog. Their viewer has not loaded the animation from the asset server or has trouble showing the animation. This issue is definitely not on your end, nor is the furniture to blame.
19. And Torley Linden also has a bunch of old SL videos on his Youtube channel (sorted by oldest first) https://www.youtube.com/user/Torley/videos?flow=grid&view=0&sort=da
20. Well, there's this one, which I was immensely amused by.
21. That almost reads like you would enjoy OpenSim. In OpenSim, you can have regions up to 1024x1024, build well above 4096 meters, the code is constantly being optimized and modernized, the scripting language is LSL but has Opensim extensions which (amongst others) allows for notecard creation, NPCs, customized windlight settings, and much more. OpenSim is extensible, meaning that if you can code (.Net/Mono), you can add functionality to the simulator, like for example, in-world mesh creation. The avatars in Opensim are not very good, but there is an already popular project underway to create what they call Ruth 2.0 and Roth 2.0 which are open source Mesh bodies+heads and is currently in RC3. Bakes on Mesh has already been successfully tested in OpenSim but is not yet publically available, because the devs want to try to keep it as close to the SL version as possible, and until SL has set loose BoM on the main grid, the devs will hold back the OpenSim implementation of BoM. Viewer-wise, there is a project in its early stages to create a web-based client, a completely new standalone client, or both (I am not 100% sure which one it is). So... as far as SL 2.0 goes, using OpenSim, you can do a lot to approach what you envision for SL 2.0 🙂 P.S. As much as I sing the praises of OpenSim, which you can quite easily run on your own PC, it's not all peaches. You start with... nothing and finding stuff to use in OpenSim can be challenging at times but can be done. I use OpenSim alongside SL because I can import textures, animations, mesh, and whatnot for free and experiment to my heart's content 😉
