I'm Back!! Much thanks to Maestro Linden for covering for me while I was on vacation last week. I got lucky and picked the 1 week out of the year that Seattle had no rain. Now that I am back to work it's raining again. :robotvery-happy:
This week MESH goes to the main channel. Wow, we've been working on this one for a long time and this is it. Thanks to everyone who has participated in the beta process and filed bugs!

Second Life Server (main channel)
  • Mesh objects can be uploaded
  • Child prims can be set to have no collision shape (do not contribute to collision of object)
  • Objects that use the features above (mesh shapes or non-colliding parts) will have prim cost calculated based on actual impact to the parcel/region rather than simple count.
  • Max prim scale has been raised to 64m on a side
  • New physics engine
    • Overhaul how collision shapes are constructed and stored in memory.
    • 10 cm gap between colliding objects has been removed for most objects:
      • For convex prims (dynamic and static)
      • Concave prims (static only)
      • For small prims ( <~0.2m on a side ) it can't be completely removed so those objects may still exhibit a gap, but it will typically be smaller than it was before the change.
  • Parcel-full return sort order has changed: most recently "changed" get returned first, but still grouped by OTHER, GROUP, and OWNER in that order.

This channel has some fixes and tweaks related to passing login info to estates.
  • Login fixes to retrieve user information more effectively for estate access control
  • Simulator fixes to usher said user that information more effectively for estate access control

Second Life RC Magnum
This project contains code for upcoming experiences. There are no new features or bug fixes in this code. We've made changes to the permissions system and added simulator configuration options. There should be no impact on existing builds.

We will be monitoring this thread during the next week so please feel free to post issues that you feel have been introduced by the new code. Please file a JIRA for issues you find and post the JIRA link into this thread. It really helps us out. When determining if issues are relevant or not research is key. Tracking down exactly the right situation where an issue is occurring greatly speeds up the development process to get fixes in place.

Although we are waiting for the projects for Bluesteel, Magnum and LeTigre. I hope it'll include mesh.

although the changes that are coming (long over due like 64M prims which other grids have had since inception) are going to be good in the long run after the transition is in place.... these changes are very significant and we all know LL's history with development deployments.....  (not a good history).  As such I would have to predict the risk of unforseen and bad impacts to the sims (i.e. rezzed inventory on the sims) could be at high risk.

So the question to ask LL is what warnings and safety precautions should LL be telling ALL RESIDENTS before preceding with these serious changest to the grid?

Also, will LL give ALL RESIDENTS enough notice of when these changes will start to happen, the risks, and the precautions LL Customers can take to protect their assets, builds, IP, etc.?  A posting here is not effective notice.  This should be posted on the MOTD for all to see and link to a blog post to explain everything.  AND it should be done at least 3 or 4 days prior to the first changes..... not a couple hours.

I sure hope LL will be doing this... and not doing the typical "OOOppps sorry for the inconvenience of wiping out that unsaved rezzed castle you were working on for weeks - we bad" message after the first unforseen problems show up on the grid from this change.

It will make a big difference for creator ownership too. I think we have all gotten sick of being told that someone else made out stuff, just because we had to use their megaprims. It's not always possible to alter that with a well chosen root prim and this will probably help the asset server quite a bit.

Hi Gavin, the BlueSteel and LeTigre channels won't get Mesh until their rolling restarts later this week, per the schedule Oskar posted.

I  haven`t seen anything sheduling mesh for Bluesteel & tbh, I am quite happy if it stays off mesh for at least another week, having seen some of the performance problems people are suddenly having everywhere else. 0722.gif

Maestro mentioned LeTigre too, but I thought LeTigre went back onto mesh last week.


Also, why do I keep getting this Authentification request everytime I open this thread? 0123.gif
