What would LL do if Amazon ever baned ALL adult content from its servers?

I find it troublesome that the thread is being used an excuse to discuss the topics of abuse, etc. and whether they should be banned or not.

So, if that is the real reason for the thread..

The whole topic is an interesting hypothetical, but so would be "What would people do if social media companies banned all posts that aren't correctly spelled and punctuated?"   Neither is going to happen, so what's the point?

Perhaps it fits the pattern of other posts in the past (by other posters) which boiled down to things like, "when will LL acknowledge that it is dependent on adult activity", etc.

Why do you believe it could never happen (the banning of adult content or "porn" from LL or Amazon providers)?

I don't say it could never happen but I view it as something so unlikely as not to be worth worrying about until there's some indication it might.

But such a discussion, as we have just been reminded, is off topic for this thread, which is the likely results of Amazon banning adult content on its servers, not all governments everywhere deciding to ban porn online.

Yes its not that you do do adult stuff, its that you can if you so choose.

😁

You can in Imvu also in spite of them proactively banning any or all user generated content that can in any way be used to visually represent a sex act. When the animation or object is taken away, the ones that are into a certain type of kink simply rp it and so in some ways it does not resolve the problem as you see it. The "depravity" is still there because it is brought by residents, not by Imvu or the Lab. The lab only supplied an empty green fields. What you put on it or do with it, they leave up to you.

/me envisions roaming around the regions of SL in a Victorian outfit that covers my ankles. Hey, it could happen!  lol  We've been reminded via the admonition to never say "it can't happen here".

But to your point, yes, sex is not about visual representation, or does not have to be.

They already like to ban just the discussion of it as we just seen, so not a big stretch to take it a bit further whether it is one side or the other.

Apples to oranges.

The forum is separate from inworld, and goes by different rules. There are, IMO, valid reasons for this difference.

So, no, I don't think LL wants to ban legal adult content.

Different parts of the same apple at best and once one part gets infected, it eventually spreads through the whole fruit.

It is not possible to discuss this topic in a non-hypothetical way without discussing current political events in RL.

I do wish the OP could see that her support of certain people in RL could lead to such a scenario.

Fixed the pronoun for you, if you aren't sure, use "their".

I can't respond to your comment, its against the rules.

Amazon seem to have a very unfixed idea of where they are actually located, depending on local tax laws and other inconveniences, so they might very well buy up one of those soon to be underwater island nations, and build a stilt office.
In any case, large parts of sl have already decamped and gone down the decentralised self-hosting route, it just isn't officially acknowledged.
I imagine the situation would become even more fluid still, should SL need to ban pixel jiggling in earnest.

Which parts of SL did that?  I haven't heard of this...

* Oh nvm, yes many have gone to open sim where they are self-hosted.

Yup, lots of SL refugees exist in Open Sim. One of them runs a hypergrid that is actually bigger than SL. I talk to him quite a bit in Discord and sometimes in world.

I disagree... it is possible. It gets complicated and ambiguous if one attempts to circumscribe the real subject. Which in these forums leads to arguments from and misunderstanding by those with a weak attachment to reality. SL to some degree is an escape from reality. So the less attached seem to like it here.

I was reading about other virtual worlds, there are literally hundreds of them. There is even one from 1997, that you can still download and log into.

The end of second life doesn't have to mean the end of virtual reality after all.

However, whatever reasons used to destroy LL could be the very same reasons used to destroy these other places too.

Let's hope Amazon's big bucks wins out over those on a misguided religious mission..

Never thought I'd root for the big corporation...but there's a first for everything!
