Here's how new houses are built in England....

You know what struck me most about that video? The pattern of "mortar washout" on the building to the left. That emerged after the timelapse showed it fully roofed and that persisted to the end.

That's not a sound build.

There's going to be cracks along those lines in 30years or so and it will be cheaper to tear the place down and rebuild it right than to try and fix it properly.

Peeve: People who are so much better than I am at taking the shade and throwing it back refined, distilled and sharpened.

You gotta admire artistry, but damn, it stings if they can dodge better than you can :)

Pro tip: Carry a parasol, and you've got your own shade wherever you go!

Here's how public housing in Britain is maintained.

1280px-Grenfell_Tower_fire_(wider_view).

That would be Grenfell Tower fire, which in 2017 killed 72 people and injured more than 70 others, mostly because the exterior of this (government owned and operated) building violated building codes.

There have been two public inquiries. No one has yet been charged.

I know exactly where that was thank you very much.

I also know which corporations have been so far successful in skating out of their legitimate responsibility and accountability for it. And the pols who enabled them to do so.

And I want them. I want them in front of a court where their lies and corruption can be laid bare. And then I want the people at those corporations heads to go to jail. Just to put the cherry on the top I want them, after their sentences are "served" to emerge without a pot to piss in, to be in exactly the same situation as the poorest of the poor they shafted. And then to gasp out their last breaths, forgotten and alone, either on the streets or in some mould-infested, so-called "care home" without anyone caring a single ***** how they met their end.

Most of that, I'm not going to get. Wont stop me campaigning for it though.

This, all of this.

Everything is so awful now, and there are days when, meek and law-abiding Canadian though I am, I am nearly shaking with rage and despair.

Which is why I am going to back out of here for a while, and give myself a time out.

You might need a border wall to your south. Get America to pay for it.

pro pro tip. The spike at the end of the parasol is case-hardened steel :)

So many times they are used by weapons in TV and film! The "Avengers" TV show, the "KIngsmen" movies..

Our own little 'palace' right here in Ohio...20 minutes from home...no passport required.

That's very pretty!

New York's got a bunch of castles and mansions and whatnot as well, but I'm not really into that whole thing, so I've never actually visited any, despite living right near one of them. My best friend in PA is always sending me photos of castles in the US that he wants to live in. I think he's nuts for that, though. 😂 I prefer modern style homes.

Reminds me of having bought a chocolate making kit from an online specialist, the cocoa butter arrived not just melted (which would have been fine), but leaking out of the package all over the place.  They had not even bothered to double-bag it. (I shall not be buying from them again. Probably, most purchases shelled out for the special fast shipment.)

Some years ago in a moment of madness I had some artisan ice cream sent through the post. It arrived in perfect condition, sealed in a polystyrene box filled with dry ice. Crikey that dry ice was a bit dodgy.  And it lifted a layer of concrete when I tipped it away on the drive.

Peeve: sellers of woo and false hope

Ugh

Bring me a reliable, tested study so I can change my mind.

"Alternative" medicine = no

(Another unpopular opinion.  I'm full of them)

/me goes back to work mumbling angrily about poking needles into dogs.

I am a bit inflexible about this.  My problem.

I'm a scientist (among other things). False hope isn't in my shot locker.

"Woo" I've only got for those that share my faith and want to hear it.

Scientific opinion: We're not Fed yet, but we're DAMN close. So how about getting out and campaigning for what you believe in, for what you want for your kids and their kids..  That's how YOU do your part to fix it.

Peeve: American tourists who ask stupid questions like "why was Windsor Castle built near Heathrow Airport?" 😜

By "American", are you referring to people from South America or North America or just a portion of one of those?

Just a few days ago you provided a long lecture regarding the United Kingdom when someone used the term more generically:
