I'm a creator and just looking some opportunities to make cloths and accessories for new trending mesh bodies that got popular recently which isn't having enough of those.

I would appreciate any useful information.

Trouble is, mesh bodies don't get popular unless they manage to amass a decent range of clothing fairly soon after release. If they don't do that, they're unlikely to catch on and you're not going to make a whole lot of profit meshing for them.

Bodies I abandoned because, among other reasons, not enough people were making clothes for them: Kalhene Erika, LoveMomma, Kupra Kups.

Bodies I didn't even bother with because nobody was making clothes for them: Cinnamon and Chai.

I recently started compiling trend data for mesh heads and mesh bodies with the data my bot service has been collecting.

It currently only goes back 120 days ATM, but each day new data gets saved so eventually 180 day, 1 year and 2 year data can be tracked.

Here is today's trend report (How to read it is explained at the bottom.):

Data shown in the time columns = Rate of Change (Average per Day)

The significance of the data lies in two key points of interest:

1) A product is showing greater/lesser rate of change than other products for any given time period.
2) A product's daily average increases/decreases from past to present.

------------------------------------------------------------

The body currently "trending" the best in regards to its current ranking would be eBody - Reborn.

I predicted on Jan 11 in my Round 4 report that it would pass eBody - Curvy this summer, but it looks like it will be even sooner.

Not sure about the framing of the question.

My bots just look for mesh heads/bodies regardless if clothing is worn or not.

I'm a creator and just looking some opportunities to make cloths and accessories for new trending mesh bodies that got popular recently which isn't having enough of those.

I would appreciate any useful information.

Kupra needs more clothing. It's the #5 body in actual use (and #3 female body) , but everywhere you go .. you see vendors with #18 as though there is a deliberate attempt to try and make eBody Reborn happen .. it's not happening.

Kupra is established already, so, yes, it does need clothing if that is lacking, but seeing as Reborn is currently having better average daily increases (I can't call them sales.) than Kupra while ranked much lower, means that it could potentially go up 4 more ranks this summer and even catch up to Legacy Perky by the end of the year.

This is why I say it is the best trending body ATM, even if it hasn't reached the same amount of uptake as Kupra in the same amount of time, post-release.

@Lucia NightfireThank you for the survey, it is very useful.

I have a question about this LucyBody.

I just searched marketplace for "LucyBody" and only found 552 apparels after filtering demos. As LucyBody stands in #9, it seems very lesser amount of cloths. For example "Belleza - Freya" gets 357848 apparels result. What do you think about the LucyBody?

LucyBody is a 'Maitreya Compatible' body, so clothing made for Maitreya will work on LucyBody.

Sorry.  I don't want to ask where the samples were taken.  I was wondering what mesh bodies are common at nudist places vs. what mesh bodies are common at shopping malls, etc.

I don't know about mesh creators that make clothing to sell themselves, as far as what bodies they make for.  I do know that a lot of the mesh template creators are now making form most asked for sizes according to their surveys or info.  And they are all different.  Lately the trend has been to sell a package of templates with Maitreya, Belleza Freya, Slink Hourglass, eBODY reborn and sometime curvy, and sometime Erika and of course the Legacy & Perky..  And on top of that they sell all the Kupras separately.  So it is costing clothes designers who use templates extra if they want to make Kupra.  I would imagine some would just not want to pay that extra so are not doing Kupra.

I have no idea, sadly.

I don't know if people have a body preference depending on whether they're going to the mall, the beach or the club.

Sounds plausible, but location/venue isn't data I'm tracking.

I've been noticing a LOT of women switching from Kupra to Reborn.  Just going by blogs I follow.

Stores are selling stuff for it, bloggers are showing it off .. You would think looking at the fashion shopping side of SL that it had far more users than it actually does, but that #18 spot from avatars seen in world wearing it has taken months to achieve. It wasn't that long ago that it was barely beating the #23 ToddleeDoo Baby. Slink and Freya are the main losers it seems. Also have to keep in mind that the Maitreya is a unisex body with the flat chest mod.

The blogger hype around it seems entirely down to it being "the new thing".

Not gonna lie, they really need to cut down on the amount of bodies out there and just keep the bigger ones.

I am afraid I have to agree with this.  It is getting out of hand.  If the mesh makers doing these new bodies were to also make clothing for it, that might be of some help.  That is one reason Maitreya caught on so fast, great body plus a bunch of clothing items right there in the same shop for it plus what everyone else was making for it.  If you think about it, it takes a mesh designer maybe up to 8 hours or more just to make the clothing item, then say another 2 to rig it accurately and well, now multiply those 2 hours by the number of bodies out there, and it is not hard to see how that would not be cost effective at all as they would never recover in lindens, the time they put into it.  So of course some bodies are going to be left out.  The more bodies out there the less options people really have when it comes to apparel and such.

I STILL don't know how TwoSided does it. She designs for at least 8 bodies + a bunch of chest mods/body variations (including Simple Stuff).

I do wish we had at least one toned/lightly-muscled female body that has good support, though. I think we're good on everything else (well, another petite/thin one couldn't hurt - with better shoulders than Maitreya!).

I honestly just wish with the new avatar appearance update coming and probably new and proper mesh bodies coming out with LL. That they update it so bodies can be way more versatile than they are. As we don't need 400 and I am exaggerating I know. That are the same in the sense of it being curvy or skinny. One body that would be versatile for both males and females would be the best thing. Like jeez, how many curvy and thin bodies do we need in SL? Lol

I don't see how that would be possible. Considering some guys go for the ultra-buff Kario vs. a woman who chooses a more petite frame vs. a female bodybuilder vs. a thin androgynous shape vs. Kupra curves - how would one body accomplish that range? I'd love if it could buuuuuut...

And oof, making clothes to account for all that sounds like a nightmare. 😂

I mean it would introduce diversity in one body, instead of like 300 bodies that looks the exact same. Lol. I mean I would rather see maybe 1 body per each body type. Instead of what we have now. Lol

Oh my. I wonder if people really think you can do decent mesh items within 8 hours. I did a "small" unrigged beanie hat in ~40 hours (and i'm not slow in what i do). For anything bigger, like a tshirt, you easily need 2 weeks fulltime (without counting the time of doing some extra textures) if you create game ready mesh (that means it's optimized handmade lowpoly with baked maps). For rigging you really have to pic some of the bodies and drop others, because at one point it's just not worth the extra time anymore.

well that was  just a ball park based on a simple dress I did in mesh, of course that is not counting rigging time for me that was the worst cause I had to take my mesh out of my program ZBrush, cause you cannot rig in that nor can you save in .dae,  then had to navigate blender to rig and save..  that is what took the time for me.. so much so and so much hassel moving from one program to another.. I just plain never bothered to do it again.

There's no difference in workload making one thing for 10 bodies by different creators or 10 variations by the same. Different base bodies have different geometry and weighting.

At least with a wide range of bodies some will have easier to access to the mandatory dev kits than others.

What we needed was LL to have their finger on the pulse of SL and step up 15 years ago with an ongoing and committed iterative program of base avatar improvements, but we're so far past that now, even if they did it anything it would have a tough time. The current ecosystem is a mess for everyone involved, but this is the best we can do when the platform operators are so completely disengaged and out of touch.

To LL, avatars are a check box item, once that box has been ticked there is no need or reason to revisit it. The vast majority of Linden staff are wearing the same avatar they made when they started, and of them, plenty are barely dressed system avatars. From the perspective of LL. As things stand now .. everyone who's bothering with mesh bodies, shopping for outfits, constantly working on their look and expressiveness .. they are simply doing SL wrong.

Philip gets part of the picture in that better avatars are somewhat important for a platform based entirely around the use of avatars, but he's blind to what that actually translates to in practice. Which is why he's off talking up face mapping and expressions rather than shopping for some new pants and figuring out just how complicated and expensive the systems we depend on actually are. If he gets an avatar make over, it's a big once in a decade event entirely handled by staffers, for everyone else it's a day that ends in Y.

Making and dressing an avatar should be easy.

Making and dressing an avatar should be baked into the core of the new user experience.

Maintaining, updating and expanding the range and capability of avatars, and providing painless creator workflows to support commerce,  should be a fundamental part of LL's platform offering.

To answer the original question, more clothing for Roth, the open source male avatar, would be nice. Ruth can (mostly) wear standard avatar clothing, but Roth doesn't quite fit.

I'm always interested in low-poly clothing for animesh. I can provide an animesh kit if you want to make some. IM me if interested. There's a copyable crate in my workshop in Vallone, next to the clothing models on pose stands.
