Skill gaming is legally defined as not a game of chance, however, the consequences of skill gaming are the same as gambling. The price to play skill games starts at L$ 1 and it can go all the way up to L$ 100,000 per play. Players can lose a lot of money and it certainly can have a negative effect on their real life. I looked and I could not find any resources for players who have a skill gaming addiction here in Second Life.

I feel that Second Life has an ethical responsibility to provide a responsible gaming environment, especially for users who are experiencing an addiction to skill gaming. One of the things I would like to see is the ability to exclude yourself from skill gaming. The option to exclude yourself is already available at most online gambling sites.

Currently, the only option to prevent you from entering skill gaming regions is to remove your payment info. This is not a good option for someone who has a gambling problem as the payment info can easily be added back in about 30 seconds. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this subject.

Visit all of the gambling places and IM the region owners requesting them to BAN you.

Deactivate your Second Life account and never log in again.

Edit: Ok, who let the people in that think that personal responsibility is no longer a thing in life? Should all bars and liquors stores close and cease doing business because an alcoholic can just walk in and buy liquor anytime they want?  Seriously...if someone has a gambling problem it's up to them to manage it, not others.

Do you think the gaming operator has no responsibility?  Responsible gambling is not a concept that I made up, it already exists throughout the gaming industry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsible_gambling

If the provider of such games gives the option of self-exclusion, then the player can also act responsible by using that option.

Well take it up with Linden Labs and maybe they will add an option. Do I think gaming operators has responsibility for another players actions. No, I do not. The creator of the platform maybe but not the owner of the region. If you have a gambling problem then you know how to act responsible.

So many addictions in life and not enough people to watch those that have them. That's why again it's called personal responsibility.  What you'd like to do is blame the gaming region for making you gamble. People with additions that they can't control will find a way unless you resort to my first suggestion.

Everybody has a weak spot. You can talk about personal responsibility but sometimes you have to be compassionate and help protect people against themselves.  But i guess in the "Me Me Me"' era, that is a lost concept.

When you've been married to a cocaine addict and raving alcoholic then talk to me about compassion. I'm out of it.

And give them your IP so they can ban your alts too.

Yeah, where does it end? Skilled gaming regions are never going to be able to exclude someone by IP, and even if they could, that's easy to get around anyway. I agree with others that the only solution is not to log in. Treat Second Life like you would any other gambling site on the internet and don't use it.

A really tricky subject, they need to know that ultimately it is their responsibility to take control of themselves, the more you help them evade this realisation the longer it will take them to see the light. Cuddles can sometimes give them the excuse to push uncomfortable truths under the carpet.

Time and again, I tell myself,

I'm staying clean tonight,

But the little green wheels are following

Oh no, not again

I am not saying that they should be coddled. I am just saying that we should not exploit them either.

If LL were concerned, they wouldn't have worked so hard to create Skilled Gaming which everyone knows is just a clever way around gambling regulations.  They didn't get rid of gachas because they were concerned with residents and gambling.  They did it to cover their own a**.

How is offering a skill gaming region exploiting them? I don't understand that line of thinking. I'm more concerned about people that have sex addictions rather than gambling addictions *spelled it right that time* I mean everywhere you turn there is SEX SEX SEX. Not only that but if you are not into the adult activities here you are deemed prudish and old. So there is that...

I think people are forgetting that LL already has it in place to prevent people who live in states, provinces, countries etc. that have outlawed gambling from even being able to enter a skill gaming region.

Telling people not to use the internet is like spitting into the wind. You're the only one that gets all wet.

Weird, this is the same usual crew who openly bashed anyone that was against the gacha ban... A lot of your "recommendations" to the OP could have been applied to your own logic in the gacha thread. Just saying...

Hey I'm all for anyone spending all their rent and food money in Second Life if that is what they choose to do.  There are a lot of things in Second Life people get addicted to that costs money. Gacha's, breedables, MC clubs, bloodlines, sex workers, shopping, etc. Since Gachas were removed from the platform though I think it was a good thing. I would even think that the gaming regions disappearing would be a good thing too but as of today they are here to stay SO it's up to all you addicts to take control of your own addiction and if you can't then don't log in.

The only thing I am addicted to is Snickers Frozen Ice Cream bars. Now if they got rid of those I'd be in big trouble. :)

True, so it shouldn't be hard to offer an option on the account page to prohibit users from entering skill gaming regions. This is assuming that once the option is enabled, it cannot be easily disabled.

Did i tell you how much i like the way you think!

Now in regards to Skill Gaming personally i like it but playing the usual Greed and NoDevil games over and over does get boring,

After so many years there should had been more options/games to play just like in normal online casinos.
