Second Life Server (Maintenance Release)

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Server/19#19.03.28.525781

Scheduled Tuesday 2019-04-09 03:00-09:00 PDT

Second Life RC BlueSteel

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_BlueSteel/19#19.04.09.526122

Second Life RC LeTigre

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_LeTigre/19#19.04.09.526122

Second Life RC Magnum

https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_RC_Magnum/19#19.04.09.526122

On Region Restarts

Regions will be restarted if they have been running for more than 10 days on Tuesday (Main Channel) and Wednesday (RCs) regardless of whether or not new code is being deployed, for the general health and well being of the Simulators.  Nothing beats turning it off and then on again … once in a while.

As always, please plan events around these maintenance windows.  However, if you are hosting an event on Tuesday or Wednesday when we’re not deploying new code, you can restart your region ahead of time to avoid interruption.

It looks like the same code as hit the RC channels last week, and I heard, somewhere, that this switched off the legacy UDP support for asset fetching, which means the Linux Spur, and the very old version of the viewer for old Windows, will no longer work.

That change was mentioned for an older version on RC Magnum, over a month ago, and all the RCs are on the same, later, code version now, but the change didn't get mentioned. That's a bit slipshod. I think there was a mention on Inara Pey's blog, and I sometimes think, the way the Lindens seem to depend on her passing on this sort of information, that she ought to be paid by them.

I'm a bit confused what server versions UDP asset fetching is supposed to be disabled on.
I just tested & I'm able to fetch UDP assets just fine on the LL Obsolete Platforms viewer on Main Channel and on all 3 RC server versions.
I can play & see animations, my avatar can bake (the viewer fetched the skin, shape, hair & eyes), I can hear inworld sounds - none of this should be working if UDP asset fetch has been disabled right?

Yes I tested on 19#19.03.28.525781

So... Could it be what I wrote above? Unless you also tried it at regions running the previous version...

(I'm going to make a few coffee pots and send them to the Lindens)

I'm pretty baffled now about what's in this release. I understand that it's what rolled to the RCs last week, but now I'm not 100% sure that the UDP "depreciation" made it in service.

But I'm actually more befuddled by whatever happened to the OS upgrade that was announced last week for the Main channel but the release notes linked from that post don't include the cited release number (19.03.15.525315). So now I'm not sure the OS upgrade went into service last week after all.

im actually starting to think the teleport and sim crossing issues we been having is the result of them pulling away from UDP fetching.
It all just feels like a UDP/HTTP issue.

As I understand it though, most viewers have been using http to fetch these assets for a long time; it's only the last stragglers that are even affected, so that shouldn't even be a noticeable increase in http traffic. But yeah, it does feel like something broken in messaging, somewhere.

I have a question. When will the Firestorm team be deploying their new viewer with EEP in it? Do you guys have the LL source code for this?

The LL EEP source code is public: https://bitbucket.org/rider_linden/viewer-eep/src/default/

Firestorm have merged in the EEP code and are working on bug fixes.
The Firestorm EEP code is also public: https://bitbucket.org/Ansariel/phoenix-firestorm-lgpl-eep-integration/src/default/

Firestorm beta testers already have a FS-EEP viewer for testing.
As for a release date of Firestorm with EEP, all I can say is "when it's ready"  ;)

Caledon estate's three Magnums just rolled, we didn't reboot last week since they were on list by Linden. So--- why rebooted today?

We have a deloy to RC channels that is happening right now.  It includes some extra logging for teleporting and some teleport improvements.    I'll update everything proper  with versions sometime today.  -version 19.04.09.526122

My guess is to emphasize that it is now Pacific Daylight Time (Daylight Savings) rather than Pacific Standard Time.

Sure. That would seem plausible if the same happened with threads posted during Standard time, but it doesn't.

Really though, I was just teasing Bugsly. vroom vroom  😉

Just to say, still no release notes on the server software rolled to the RCs on Wednesday and the original post has not yet been updated with the version that was rolled to the RC channels.  FWIW 19.04.09.526122 WAS the version rolled to Wirtz, but what is had in it or what it was intended to do, is anyone's guess.

Simon Linden said in the last server UG that it has extra logging to see if it can detect whats causing the crashes with teleports.

Any info on that they released today (Mon 15th).  It seemed like it was all channels but the notice was not specific, and nothing on the purpose.

There was not any obvious dramatic improvent at our race today.

PS:  DO we need two categeories, "Regularly Scheduled Maintenance" and "Unscheduled Scheduled Maintenance" or "Suddenly Scheduled Maintenance"  sort of like "unknown unknowns "which is what the TP problem seems to be lol.
