I never meant to imply it wasn't your choice...or that there was anything wrong with what you'd choose to do...was just wondering why you felt that way...

Some of the occult only relates to going deeper into mysterious aspects of life (some of that is darker, and simply a fact of reality), while other definitions denote a worship of evil (the latter is where I draw the line myself).

Look at what type of occult practices are depicted during Halloween and I think the connection and why it's not my preference is rather obvious.

Never said I was afraid of the occult. I do not wish to be a participant in anything having to do with the occult. My choice. :)

synonyms:

the supernatural, the paranormal, supernaturalism, magic, black magic, witchcraft, sorcery, necromancy, wizardry, the black arts, occultism, diabolism, devil worship, devilry, voodoo, hoodoo, white magic, witchery, mysticism

So does that include talking to pagans?

ETA.. Does that include fantasy books and movies? Like Harry Potter and LOTR?

Yes it can go over the top...into the worshipping of death...and to me that is creepy.  I'm not sure why this happens.

However, death is a part of life, and is worthy of honor when considered as part of the whole.

I respectfully suggest you watch Coco. Put aside your prejudices and open your mind a bit. Just because the extremes are plastered about the movie theaters in the US around Halloween doesnt make all things Halloween devil worship. Good lord. 99.99% of all Halloween things are, "DING DONG" Trick or treat!!! "Here's your candy, kids. What cute costumes." Not sitting in some moldy basement summoning the dark lord.. Geesh.. Talk about stereotyping..

I'm Wiccan, i guess i better get that small child to sacrifice on Samhain this year. I wonder if the devil prefers blondes or raven haired?

I'm Wiccan,

Years ago I practiced Wicca for a few years. It was funny in that when Wicca developed for me I was living in a Yoga ashram. I'd sit out on the porch writing songs, and developed an affinity for the trees. That's what I like about Wicca...such a love of nature.
"Do what ye will but harm none", and "Changing consciousness with will".....two of the primary mottos I liked. I met a whole lot of interesting women, and did rituals in the moonlight. Then ended back with Yoga.

I loved Coco!  :)

A quick google shows that a lot of those "over 7 billion people outside of America" apparently celebrate Halloween in one form or another:

Though most articles do attribute the extreme commercialization of it (along with almost all other holidays) to American capitalism - always out to make a buck, however and wherever.

Um, well, this makes me ask how good source it was, because

- Czechoslovakia doesn't exist since 1993

- Czech republic (formely half of Czechoslovakia) never had Halloweern in any form. There is  All Souls' Day and its in November. And it has nothing with pumpkins, candy or costumes.

I don't know how other countries on the list, but they can be wrong as well.

Oh, it's deeply rooted.  All Saints Day, or All Hallows Day, has been on the calendar of the Christian church since the early 600's.  The evening before that day is All Hallows Eve, or Hallows Eve, shortened to "Hallow E'en" or the modern Halloween.  Halloween incorporates Druidical and Celtic legends and symbology, as well as symbols of the harvest, which predate Christianity.  But the end of the harvest has been celebrated by people long before that.  Most cultures celebrate at least four major holidays, at the turning points of the year...the winter solstice (Christmas), the vernal equinox (Easter), the summer solstice, and the autumnal equinox (Halloween/Feast of All Saints).

I wasn't saying that Halloween had no historical background or origin. I was describing that Halloween today is an import in Germany, instead of a "naturally" grown holiday. Its also not competing with another holiday either. There isn't really a representation for autumnal equinox (nothing on the 31th and 1st of November isn't celebrated in all states and has nothing left of any pre-christian tradition) and now that I think about it also none for summer solstice.

I know this is part of Halloween. But Halloween wasn't a "thing" here a couple of years ago and is still not compareable to the kind of holiday it is in the US.

Am I that difficult to understand today? ?

I just grabbed the first thing that came up in google and that particular article is a bit old.  The other countries are still around.

I'll take any holidays that give me the days off work..

I'm always interested in Holidays around the world..I wish more of them were celebrated in world, because I would sure love to go to their events and learn about them..

I think it's up to those that celebrate them from their areas, to bring them into this world if they want to share them..I think it's always the more the merrier with those kinds of things..

I sure don't want to see any of them go away..People seem to get all excited about them and  I think that's a good thing for the world..

The more Holidays and celebrations I learn about from around the world, the more their is to celebrate:)

That's just my two pennies on it..

Garnet, are there celebrations of Guy Fawkes Day in SL? I'd actually pay an entrance fee to attend a bonfire night. I might even give a penny for the Guy.

I have seen a few.  I'll be taking part in a small-scale one if it happens this year - it's on someone else's region and they're rebuilding. I'll post it as an event if it does, but I expect there'll be others listed as well :)

I didn't mean if the countries exist. I meant if they really celebrate "Halloween". Because I got impression that every country with some type of holiday close to the date was counted in, even if the local holidays look very differently, and have nothing with Halloween in the classic "pumkins / costumes / candies for kids" form.

As has been already mentioned, Halloween is not just a us holiday.. How do you feel about Thanksgiving? Columbus day? Martin Luther King Day? Valentine's Day?

Martin Luther King Jr has a holiday named after him?

I find it funny, it's not even fall for me but I like decorating and the whole tradition. It's also not a thing in my country, but I still find celebrations entertaining, it's a great way to get out of routine and do something just to have a good time.
