  1. You can put any type of inventory item into a box and transfer it that way. I do this all the time when i need to transfer more than the 40 item limit. Its safer to do this than transferring folders even if there is less than 40 items. I've done folders and lost things, but never lost anything in a box.
  2. I judge the time i allow by how long the tenant has been there and their payment history. If they always paid on time, then I'll make more of an effort to IM them. If they are constantly late on their rent, not so much.
  3. In meters, assuming square or rectangular lots of standard size for the sqm size: 65536 = 256x256 32768 = 256 x128 16384= 128x128 8192 = 64x128 4096 =64x64 2048=64x32 1024= 32x32 512=32x16 You will need something larger than a 2048. How much larger will depend on set back requirements in any covenant.
  4. If you own the land and/or the estate the land is in, you have nothing to fear even if she filed an abuse report. As the person who pays for it, you are allowed to choose who you allow or not on your land and can boot anyone you choose to, even if the land is set for 'public access'. If she filed an abuse report, LL won't do anything to you unless something else happened that you aren't saying that violates the TOS. Simple booting, doesn't. Second, there are no 'official' report tickets to give you. At most, the person may have copied and pasted an abuse report she filed on a note card.
  5. If you are getting it everywhere you go, then it would be something attached to you like an AO a dance HUD, or something else that animates your avatar. If you are only getting it in one location, chances are its furniture or some object that has animations in it. The name of the object should be given as part of the warning. Locate it the next time you get the warning and reset the scripts. If its something attached to you, you should detach it and rez it out on the ground to do this. If you can't reset the scripts then take it into inventory are re-rez it. If this doesn't stop it, then let give us a few more details, such as the oobject doing this and any patterns of reoccurance you can see along with the complete message your getting and we may be able to help more. You can also contact the creator of the object for advice.
  6. This is great news! I hope they expand the hours and add more employees once the word gets out and lines start to form to talk to one of the helpers. As far as independent blogs, they have their place. The official sources of LL are mostly objective and give facts and it should not be otherwise. This is where newbs should be directed first when they need factual information. The independent blogs though can cover a broader range of subjects in depth and can give them opinion and consumer guidance, or let newbs learn more details about a skill they are trying to master.
  7. You will need to send a note card to the merchant explaining that you did not receive what you paid for. Copy and paste the transaction information from your transaction history if you bought in world or from the marketplace order history if you bought it there. Be patient for your reply as merchants are like anybody and not on line all the time. You may not get a refund of the amount you paid, as this depends on the policy of the merchant. You will at least get what you paid for, as most merchants want you to receive what you paid for, but sometimes they don't know this is the case unless you contact them this way. Linden Lab does not get involved in this type of thing unless it was an error on the marketplace. If you bought it on the marketplace and after attempting to contact the merchant you do no hear anything, you may file a support ticket for failed delivery on the marketplace and get the merchandise redelivered.
  8. I started SL in 2006 with a brand new top of the line desktop computer, top of the line graphic card and a wide screen cutting edge flat panel HD monitor. It ran SL great with high performance and no lag, until the CPU finally died for good all of a sudden this year. A few months ago it was replaced with a top of the line laptop.. The monitor from the desktop still works great though and I have it, a new full keyboard and mouse hooked to the laptop when I can sit at my desk (most of the time), and have the laptop for mobility, when I can't. I'm very pleased with this arrangement as I get the best of both worlds. I admit that I go through 1 or 2 keyboards and headphones a year, LOL. But I've never regretted the money spent on buying the best computer I could find. Not only is the performance great, but they don't go obsolete after only a year or two. Five good years of being in SL everyday for hours on end, since I work in SL, on one CPU with the original monitor still giving me an excellent picture, proves that!
  9. You may want to request asap that they put the sim back on line for a limited time in order for people to retrieve their things. I rented on a sim that went poof without warning because the tier wasn't paid by the owner. We asked Linden Lab directly to do this and they did because some of the items lost were no copy. The time was very limited though, only part of a day for a few hours. If your dealing with a lot of vendors or tenants, see if they will do this and schedule it for a time a few days in the future so that you have a chance to notify people and they can make any arrangements they need to in order to be online. As far as refunds, just be honest and tell people that you were the manager only and the owner has all the funds. That it is not your responsibility to refund their money from your pocket as you are an employee only. Explain that you too have been trying to contact the owner without any success yet. Chances are his account has been suspended if he owes money to LL and you won't hear from him until or unless he pays his bill. To help smooth things for yourself, you can tell them that if you hear from the owner you'll tell him and let them know too, if you will follow through on this, but don't lie if you won't. Once you explain the facts of life to them, if they continue to bother you about it, I just wouldn't respond. Chances are though that the owner no longer has their money anyway if he couldn't pay the tier. Unfortunately, a lot of landlords spend the money as soon as they get it and not save it towards tier, so this is all too common. Its the best reason to always rent from an estate that has been around for a while and that is stable. It is also a good example of why as a manager, you should always insist that all rent monies be paid directly to the owner and not you. Rent systems are available that the owner can buy and give you managemnet access to. That way there is no question that you have money to refund them.
  10. Excellent suggestions Venus. I think that would encourage more people to give feedback and also go a long way to making people believe the LInden's were paying attention to something the residents say, because they don't give that impression now.
  11. ....and a very good one! I've often wished that myself. Even if we couldn't make our own, At least having generic categories like "Acquaintances", Friends, "Family", "Co-workers", "Customers" and "I don't know who this is but am afraid to delete them in case they turn out to be important :smileyvery-happy: would help a lot.
  12. Mesh isn't that hot in houses yet in my opinion, and I've been keeping a close eye on this. The viewer I use tells me what viewers people are running and I've been watching while out and about. A large percentage of people don't even run mesh viewers so wouldn't be interested in mesh homes. I've also been asking people who do run them and most either are not interested in a mesh home or are taking a wait and see approach, not running out and buying them. I personally live in a very popular large sailing estate with more than 100 Sims and haven't seen a mesh house yet. I admit, this isn't anywhere near a scientific poll, but I have been doing a lot of observing and asking a lot of people. This may change in time, but I think it will be a while yet. You may want to take a look at the marketplace and sort the houses there by 'best selling' to see what is hot on there and the features they offer. There are fewer than 10 Mesh houses there now and they aren't near the best seller level yet. You may also want to go to the most popular shops that sell homes in world and see what features they are offering. It looks to me that a combination of regular and sculpted primps are the most popular homes. The land market is depressed now. With the RL economy the way it is many people just don't have the money anymore to pay tiers, particularly for larger lots. A lot of estates that rent land out are closing down because they can't find tenants. People are living on smaller lots, downsizing or just don't have a home. If you are looking to sell, I'd suggest you consider smaller homes that are relatively inexpensive, not luxury mansions. If you just want to build for your own enjoyment and not looking to sell a lot or have a big return, then the sky is the limit. There are still people around that can afford a homestead, a quarter sim or better and want the luxury lifestyle. They are just fewer and farther in between.
  13. FYI: Grandfathering of the lower tier rates only continues as long as the person that owned it in 2010 still owns it. If you buy a sim on the secondary market you will have to pay the current tier rate when you become the owner. The Linden's changed the policy on granfathered sims effective Janauary 2011.
  14. I wouldn't rely primarily on anything a creator puts out about their own product. In my experience, many creators won't admit their creations cause problems either because they don't care or they flat out don't know. Not to say that scripts are the only culprit, because they aren't, but as an example, there are all kinds of ways to write scripts to accomplish the same result. Generally the most efficient scripting can also the most advance. One common thing less advanced scripters do is use too many scripts that communicate with one another using server resources. It takes them several to do what an advance scripter can do in one script.
  15. Hopefully this is NOT what happened, but there are two other remote possibilities. When there is a violation of IP rights and LL must act on it due to a DMCA notice, the offending item is removed completely from the asset servers. It doesn't just disappear from the offender's inventory but it disappears where ever it was rezzed in world, and all copies of the item held in ANYONE"S inventory disappear too. The second possibility is that SL lost all the data for creating it, with the same result. If it doesn't reappear soon, I'd contact the seller and see if they know what is going on. If you can reach them, perhaps its the second possibility. If neither is the case, since most all buildings are copy/no transfer, the seller should have no problem sending you another copy of it if you or they have a record of the purchase. In anticipation of you wondering, if there was an IP violation and its gone for good you can kiss the money you paid for it goodbye. There is no compensation given by LL to innocent parties that lose things they bought. The chances of receive a refund from the seller are almost nil too for obvious reasons.
  16. If they make land worthless, who would want to invest in land then? Is there no zoning for these breedables? I thought I read that somewhere, but have come up with no FAQ, blog or anything about them. Many say nusence and can reck sims, so why allow in the first place? And yes I have breedables right next to my SL house. Now what do I do? Wait for the lag to get so bad, I'll just pack up and leave? Isn't there any kind of cap limit on how many breedables one can have on their land? Is there a max prim count of their breedable things, and are they charged by the prim of each of the breedables or what exactly? I assume from your post you live on Linden Land and don't have an estate owner to regulate resource abusing neighbors. Many private estates do not allow breedables because of the lag issues they cause and perhaps that is what you have read. Some breedables may not be a problem, but some are. it also depends on how many are rezzed out at once. A limit on numbers could be set for each parcel, but I simply don't have the time to regularly count breedables on each parcel to enforce it. For this reason, and since I can't allow some types and not others and new ones come out from time to time, I ban them all in the covenant that I use. Some private estates allow them on a limited basis and/or the estate owner monitors for abusive use of resources and takes steps to correct the problem. However unless you know the estate owner well and know for a fact that they monitor this frequently and run a 'tight ship' you may still have problems. If it gets to be a problem for you and you end up having to move, you may want to consider a private estate that does not allow them.
  17. No, there is no way to search favorites only. You may want to go through your favoritea list though and reduce it by elmiminating things that you put on it that you may have changed your mind about or already bought.
  18. You will have to make them all members of all the different groups to build all over the sim. And if the adjacent parcels have different group owners, they have to build within the parcel. You can eliminate the problem by allowing "all residents" to build on all the parcels during the class. You can restrict entry to the sim during this time using the estate tools. You could create a group if the students aren't in one already and allow access to the sim to the group only during the class period. You could also just add them all to the estate access list temporaritly and not have to do this.. Personally, I'd lift all the building and object entry restrictions, add them to estate access and close the sim to the public during their class period. It is probably the least amount of work for you. When class is over just put everything back to the way it was.
  19. Actually there are two things that are involved in this question. What LL's policies are and the actual law. In the Official Policy of LL concerning IP Rights it specifically states that "inspired by" with the name of a copyrighted work or a trademark is not allowed in SL. Since the official policy is what LL employee's use in determine what is acceptable when processing complaints about IP rights, either in a DMCA action or in deciding if a listing in search or the marketplace should be allowed, it is important that people know what they are to avoid official action. When registering for SL everyone must agree to the TOS, which states that the US law, known as the DMCA must be observed. So even if you are not a resident of the US it still applies. Whether LL's policy is what a court would decide is another matter all together. So you may or may not be right in your answer as far as how a court having RL jurisdiction would apply law in a ruling, However for SL purposes, I would strongly suggest that 'inspired by" not be used. Here are a few links that people who are interested may want to take a look at: The Official policy of Linden Lab http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Intellectual_Property About DMCA Violation Notices http://secondlife.com/corporate/dmca.php The official summary of the US Gov't of the DMCA http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/dmca.pdf

  21. I understand your frustration, however, this restriction is used to protect land against griefers. Griefers never have payment info on file that would allow them to be traced by LL, unless they are exceedingly dumb. It is one of the sure fire ways to protect land. Sometimes land owners put this restriction on temporarily because they have been undergoing a period of constant griefing and eventually remove it. So you may want to contact the owner and ask if this is the case, or try to go again later. That being said, keep in mind that the person who pays the tiers on the land has the right to choose who they want to come there. You as an individual have no absolute 'right' to go anyplace you want. It would be unfair to the person paying for the land to have to accept visits from anyone. Of course if their restrictions prevent a customer from making a purchase and they lose a sale, then they must accept that too. So its a two way street. One solution is to put payment information on file. Some folks have a prepaid credit card with only a minimum amount of money in their card account that they use just for this purpose Just because you have it on file doesn't mean you have to use it if you earn your money within SL. If you don't want to do this for any reason, you must then accept the fact that you will be restricted from going some places.
  22. Depending on the viewer you use you may be able to activate it through it too as some viewers have a built in AO feature.
  23. IMHO, its not the build itself as you described it that would violate TOS or IP rights, so long as its not exactly like or substantially similiar to the inspiration for it. its advertising or stating publicy it was "inspired by <trademarked or copyrighted material>. It would be perfectly acceptable to generically say it was "inspired by a popular childrens book, movie etc". as long as you don't name it and let the viewers draw their own conclusions.
  24. It could be that they will show up eventually in your inventory or your friends. I'd clear my cache and reload my inventory and see if that makes them reappear. Have you friend do the same. Sometimes it takes a long time before it shows up in one of the inventories too. I don't know why things disappear like this other than the asset servers have lost it or are slow. When sending multiple items , I always send one folder at a time if what I am sending is copy/transfer. If they are transfer only and they are valuable, I don't send them as folders but pack them in a box first. You can put each folders contents in a box and then the sub boxes in a master box. The box method is by far the safest. To make it even more so, you may want to rez it out and set it for sale for zero dollars and have your friend 'buy' it, then pick it up and put it in their inventory. If your a premium member you may want to file a support ticket if they don't show up in your inventory or your friends and explain exactly what happened along with gving the name of the missing folders/items.
  25. If you are the land owner, a member of the group that owns the land and have the authority, or a tenant that has access to the owner controls, you can set the land access. You can uncheck, Allow Public Access and then only those that are on your Access List or that are a member of the group that owns the land or that you have set the land to can come there. IMPORTANT NOTE: check your covenant before doing this, as this will put up ban lines and some covenants do not allow this. If this is the case, you will have to get a security system , sometimes called an orb, and install it. Security systems can be set up so you can specify who is allowed. You can add and subtract people at will. Check with your landlord or estate owner before doing this. They may be able to set one up for you, or they may have specific rules as to which ones you can use. Sometimes this information is also in the covenant or leasing information in the rent box. If you live on land that does not allow either ban lines or security systems, there is not much you can do. In that case you may wish to consider moving to a place that is more private and allows this. You may also ask people who intrude on your privacy not to come there unless you invite them, during certain times if the day or whatever criteria you want to set. If they are friends or people who respect privacy they will comply. If not, you can ban them.
