  2. A script can't attach anything to you without your permission. This was a 'following" item. It waits for someone to come within range and then will follow them around. It may not have been on your land at all , but on the parcel of a neighbor. You may also want to contact your immediate neighbors and let them know about this in case its still lurking around.
  3. I looked at mine It appears that what I am see are things that people on my friends list post on their web profile home page in the 'share something box'. It also shows things like people changing their profile pics , names, etc. While you can't stop activities or thoughts of other people who are on your friends list showing up, you can control if your friends get messages about your activities everytime you sneeze. Go here. after logging into the dash board or mysecondlife.com and under 'feed' choose the privacy setting you prefer. ie: Everyone(on the web) Second Life (anyone with a SL account) Friends or Nobody, If you haven't set your privacy settings on your web profile, you should also take a look at the other items there and set those too.
  4. When you log in, scripted items attached to your avatar that you attached when you were logged in previously often put messages in chat telling you that they are there and functioning. They will stay attached to your avatar, even when you log out, until you detach them. You probably attached items a while ago and forgot that you did, then see these messages when you log in. Things that you were not wearing don't attach themselves on log in unless you are already wearing an attachment scripted to attach additional items. Scripts cannot attach anything unless they ask and receive your permission through a dialog box. You can see everything that is attached to your avatar by looking under the 'worn' tab in your inventory. Right click anything that you don't want attached and select 'detach'.
  5. If you are talking about a RL product or service, you may not advertise it or promote it on the marketplace or in the forums but you may in world. How best to do that depends on what you are selling. Here is a link where this question was answered before. You product or service may be different than what this person was promoting , but the same methods apply.
  6. The Cool viewer not only is formatted like V1.23 but supports mesh too! Both Singularity and Phoenix will also support mesh but keep the older format but the mesh viewers for them haven't been released yet.
  7. The seller submits a support ticket saying the sim is being sold and who the new owner is. You should also state if you have been paid for it. If not, then state the amount of the sale. Also if the seller or buyer is paying the transfer fee. If you aren't paid in advance, the lindens will deduct the price of the sim and any transfer costs that they buyer is paying from their cash account and put the sale price in yours when when the sim actually is transferred. if you are paying for the transfer then it will be deducted from your cash account when the transfer is done. Once you submit the ticket give the ticket number to the buyer. The buyer then submits a ticket confirming the terms of the sale giving all the above info to and referencing your ticket by number. If they will be moving the sim, the new coordinates or locatoin should be given. This is also the time to specify the new name if it will change too. (If the buyer neglects to do this and does it later there will be additional charges). The buyer also has to give the name of the estate that sim will be part of. This can be a different name than the sim name or the same. They can transfer it to an existing estate if they already own one, or create a new estate for it. Sometimes a sale goes through quickly, sometimes it takes several days, depending on how many tickets they have to work.
  8. Any rental system that you can change the texture of the box on rental should work. Most allow you to customize the textures that way. Just use transparent as the texture and set the box to phantom. There are rental boxes that also will do a prim count too. What other features it has depends on the price you are willing to pay for it. Search marketplace and just be sure the textures can be changed and it has a prim counter.
  9. My main peeve is going to a huge store with no directory and tp system so you have to walk around forever to find something. Like items should be grouped together in 'departments' and a good tp system should be available at the main entrance to take you to the department you want immediately, as well as in each department so you can go to others fast. Frequently I see something I like and go to the store to buy it. If I can't find it within a very reasonable time, I leave and you lose a sale. As far as slow rezzing stores, I realize that sometimes its just a bad day in SL for that. But some stores are consistently slow rezzing no matter when you go. I'm not going to stand around for more than 5 minutes waiting for everything to rez. The problem is caused by: The textures used on the build and for display are high resolution. There is too much to rez within view range. I know merchants think a big open store where you can see everything at once may lead to higher sales but it doesn't in my case. Break what is seen at any one time by adding visual blockers. Way to many sculpted prims used. Sculpts take a lot longer to download then rez correctly than regular prims.
  10. If you are running both of your avatars at the same time that may be what the problem is. The mesh viewers use more computer resources and it could be that your computer isn't up to running 2 viewers simultaneously. If this is the case, I suspect that you primary is the one crashing because it probably uses more memory than you alt due to the additional attachments you mentioned. On my old computer I could run 2 viewers at the same time for a long time, but as it got older and viewers advanced, eventually I couldn't. I could hardly run 1 viewer plus another program. I just got a new computer a few months ago that is a pretty powerful. Now not only can I run 2 viewers but several other programs at the same time now.
  11. Not only do i get random spam from people and places I've never done b usiness with I am getting quite a bit now of the 'come to my club' messages and landmarks. I won't patronize any merchant or go to any venue that spams people who did not voluntarily join a group or subscritption service. So their spam has the opposite of the intended effect.
  12. See my answer to your post on this same issue here.
  13. If you have specific questions let us know and we'll be glad to answer them. If you aren't even sure what to ask, you may want to go to a newb friendly area where you can learn about the overall world and how to navigate in it. New Citizens Inc. (NCI) is a place to go for help. This organization is run by experienced residents who will be glad to teach you all sorts of things. Click here for a tp or use inworld search to find them.
  14. You must email the Linden Lab editors of the Destination Guide to update information included in the guide. Here is the link for information.
  15. Having read your previous posts and your last one, it seems to me that you you are back peddling pretty fast to save face in light of the criticism you received. You did indeed insult many people here and seem jealous and resentful. I suggest you retreat to only LInden owned and run locations and stop taking advantage of the generosity of all the land owners and content creators that have provided you with the world you seem to enjoy so much. As far as your last post, if you really feel this way, aren't you being hypocritical for being in SL at all? By using it you are supporting the "Corporatism" you are so against. As a land owner and content creator I have absolutely nothing against the people who play for free. They are more than welcome and more power to them. What I am against is your overblown sense of entitlement. You think everything should be free and there for the taking. I guess you work for free in RL, and don't mind people coming into your home and helping themselves to food and clothing. This is not the way the world goes round. You must be very young and naive.
  16. As posted in the other two answers, you group was probably automatically disbanded if you were the only one in it. If you know for sure there were other people in the group, including another owner, you may have accidently left it. Use search to see if its still showing there. If it is, and there is another owner, then ask them to add you back. If you were the only owner, then i'm afraid there isn't much you can do as it will evenutally disband, unless you file a support ticket and LL can help you. If the group was disbanded and you had objects deeded to the group, i'm afraid you lost them. Since the group no longer exists and your not a member you probably won't be able to take them back to your inventory, although you can try this. If you had deeded land to the group then contact the estate owner, who can reposses it and return it to you. However if someone else had purchased the land originally and then deeded it to the group, they won't do this. They will return it to that person.
  17. If it was transferable, check the floor prim and see if its in the edit contents. If it is you'll have to get the prims owner to remove it and return it to you. Sometimes things end up on the corner of a sim at the 0,0,0 coordinates. I regularly check sims I manage for this and am always surprised at what I find there. Its like this corner is a dump! Look there too. Also, its very possible that it will show up in your lost and found folder eventually. Sometimes this takes a couple days other times much longer. I once lost an expensive HUD while rezzing it this way and could never find it in my inventory. I was able to search the sim well as I was an estate agent but never found it. I thought it was gone forever. Imagine my surprise when about a year later I logged in to a message that it had been returned to lost and found. I understand that sometimes a sim returns things and for some reason the asset server doesn't recognize who it belongs to. It ends up in a file on the servers for a while until some one at LL cleans it out and can figure out who it belongs to.
  18. What I'd like to see is a lot more varied color in SL for both men AND women. There are exceptions but most all clothes come in the basic colors black, red, pink, for the ladies, navy for the guys. If your lucky it may be offered in a few secondary basics green, purple, turquoise. Its like the fashion designers only have the cheap box of 8 crayons instead of the big 101 color box!
  19. Actually the main difference is that if you rent, you do not have the ability to sell the land to another person. Whereas if you buy land, you can generally decide to sell it when you no longer want or need it, either to another person or to the estate in some cases. At one time, people bought land and could sell it for more than they paid for it and make a profit much as you can in RL. But unless you live in a high demand estate this is hardly the case anymore. The right to control all aspects oft the land through the land management tools is generally given to people who buy land subject to any restrictions in the covenant. Whereas renters may or may not have all the same controls on the land they rent.. Estate manager rights are generally given only to people who rent OR buy an entire sim from a private owner, whether it be a full sim or homestead. However this isn't always the case, depending on how an estate is set up or the owner feels about it. Mainland is different. No one has estate rights on the mainland even if you own an entire sim. The estate rights vest solely in the LIndens.
  20. It is not weird to do this. I've seen other avatars that portray disabilities. I believe it is because it is part of them, as other posters have pointed out. However some do it so they will be asked and then use it as a chance to educate people on their disability.. There are a lot of disabled people in SL. Most choose not to portray their disability. People I know that are disabled in RL tell me they don't because they want to be treated as everyone else, or they come to SL specifically to do and experience things that they can't in RL. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer for this. Each person must decide for themselves and whatever they decide I have to respect them for it. If you continue to feel weird about it or just want to talk to people who may understand how you feel, I suggest you visit the sim Virtual Ability in world. It is a venue specifically for disabled people where they can meet, socialize and talk to others and even have a place to live. It is run by a group of very caring people, many of whom are disabled themselves in RL. They also make specialized orientations and training available for disabled people who need to learn how to use SL with their disability, as well as work with content creators so that those who choose to portray their disability are able to do so in a dignified and realistic manner.
  21. File a support ticket under the category of Marketplace Failed Delivery.
  22. It would have appeared in your transaction history on your web site dashboard. However, only transactions from the last 30 days are available. So I'm afraid its too late now, unless by chance you had downloaded the information onto your hard drive. Your ex does have access to the information on their marketplace order history and could copy and paste it on a notecard for you if they are willing to do this. In the future you may want to copy this information at the time you receive it and paste it on a notecard that you store in your inventory or on a note that you store on your own computer. You can also download your transaction history monthly to retain these records. Most merchants do keep records of their sales and perhaps if you remember the date you received it he could look it up in his own records. However, he is not obligated to do this. Also, since TV's are always transferable (so they can be deeded to a group on group owned land in order to work) and there is no way for the merchant to verify that you didn't give it to someone yourself, the merchant may not be willing to replace it anyway. Most creators have such a policy on transferable items. If you needed warranty service and the TV had to be replaced, they would replace it as long as you could return the broken TV to them. However there is no harm in contacting the creator and asking politely. Depending on how you lost it, you may want to file a support ticket to see of LL can help you find it. If it was group owned and returned though, it is lost forever because the server does not know who the avatar owner is, only the group.
  23. I didn't give up a job but I work full time in SL. I was laid off from my last real world job and was lucky enough to receive a generous severance package that allowed me to take a couple years off. An artist in RL, I came to SL originally to do content creation for entertainment after reading about SL in my local paper. After a while, people saw my work and liked it then started to ask me to do custom work for them. I built my first full sim when I was six months old. It just grew from there and over time I've diversified, acquired a business partner and have become a full service SL Solution Provider. I have worked harder in here than I ever did in any real world job and I held some pretty tough management jobs in real world business. . On the plus side, I enjoy it a lot more, you can't beat the commute or the dress code and being my own boss is great.
  24. Your best bet is to answer ads posted in the employment section of this forum or in classified in world. Most club owners aren't going to be looking for employees who post that they want a job here. You may find a job as a dancer, but not many places hire bartenders. If they do, they are generally just another name for a host and if training isn't offered, you will have to have more experience than a dancer would. Most dancing and host jobs don't pay a regular rate. You work for tips. Be aware that most employers want you to be at least 30 days old and have a decent skin, shape, hair etc. If you are using freebies or standard LL body parts, you will need to upgrade your avatar first. Even if this isn't required, you'll make more money with a good looking avi than one that looks like a newb. You may have to purchase a few lindens to do this using RL money, unless you are lucky enough to talk a friend into giving or loaning it to you or you win it through a club contest. If you look very hard, you may even find some good quality body parts and clothing for free. Some quality merchants will offer a starter to people who are less than 30 days old that are of good quality. You will find these in their shops, not in the freebie malls. If you don't know enough about what you need or where to go look, many times people with more experience will mentor you or help you do an avi makeover. You can also go to places like NCI to find out more by asking the mentors there to explain it to you and perhaps recommend some good shops.
  25. At one time people were able to make small parcels like that and erect ad boards or signs. It was a big thing with advertising companies putting them all over the place and selling ad space. But it was an eyesore and eventually LL stopped the practice. Another reason is that if you have a business where you sell a number of different categories of items and want to have a subdivision show in search, you used to be able to do that with just a 16sqm parcel. It was also common for clubs with malls to do that so the mall could be in search by the mall traffic be included in the club's traffic. Now you have to use a larger parcel, as this practice has also been stopped. So some of these tiny lots may exist as a leftover from those days. You can always contact the owner and see if they will sell it to you. A lot of times they will as its basically useless to them now but such a small parcel can't be sold on the open market either and they are glad to rid themselves of it. If the owner is no longer active in SL, you can file a ticket with LL and see if they will take it back and sell it to you. I've heard they will do that. I've heard people say that people do this to drive the price of a larger parcel down as like you say, its hard to sell property with a micro lot in the middle of it. But I doubt that myself. First, you'd have to cut it from a larger parcel or find one left over from the ad farms and buy it. You won't see them in search and the cost doesn't justify paying for n ad. They are basically unmarketable.
