  1. Unless the Lindens agree to eject herm which is highly doubtful, there is really nothing you can do about this unless she resigns. This is why they say to be careful about giving the owner role. If you need to start a new group, its best to give a manager or other assistant an officer role and then go to the roles tab and give them any authorities they need to have that an officer doesn't get automatically. You can give them the same authorities as an Owner, however you will always be able to eject them from your group if they become a problem.
  2. Shine will not work on alpha textures period. So your texture must have an alpha channel. Note though that even if you mod the texture and remove the alpha you may not get the results you are looking for. Unless you set the shine to low the text will be difficult to read. Even on low, the letters must be large and clear. For the best results, make the texture itself look shiny rather than using the shiine feature.
  3. If anyone with terraform rights uses any terraforming tools, check to be sure they didn't leave them sitting around. When I was a newb I was using a land flattener and crashed. Since it was dinner time I made the mistake of not logging back in to pick it up. When I got back several hours later, the whole sim had been raised up very high burying everything on it. If it isn't that, then it has to be someone with terrarforming rights doing this. The owner should think carefully if they ever gave rights to someone other than you and the other person. The only other possibility is that the sim is having a problem. If you get no where with the first two reason, the estate owner or an estate agent should contact LL and have them look at the sim. This needs to be done when it has happened so that they can find the problem. So if it happens again, don't revert it. The estate owner or an agent can contact LL via live chat and talk to them about it. If a ticket is needed then they can help you file one under the right category.
  4. It will show when PayPal gets and posts the money which can take five business days, or more if you are not in the US, from the date that LL has finished processing the withdrawal. Don't forget that the four day Thanksgiving weekend in the US cannot be counted. So if you put it on thanksgiving, the processing just started on Monday. You can track this through your dashboard under Manage L$
  5. Death is part of life and I don't find your questions offensive. I've been seriously ill twice in life and wouldn't have minded it then. People I know who are dieing talk about their death. My father died of cancer and when he knew that there was no hope, he talked openly about not only what he wanted for a memorial but also related to me how the whole experience felt. The one thing that he said that I thought was the wisest was that when you have a fatal illness you really don't know anything more than before you were diagnosed. Know one knows for certain the day they will die. You could be told you have six months to live and be run over by a car leaving the doctors office. There are people that were told they only had a short time to live, and live for years after the deadline. You could be perfectly healthy and drop dead the next day or be killed. The important thing is to live each day like its your last because it very well may be and if its not, then there still will be no regrets. I don't want a funeral in RL or SL. In RL my body will go to a medical center to harvest any organs they find viable with the rest going to research or teaching. So there really isn't going to be anything left of me in the end. If someone wanted to do something, I'd prefer a simple party to celebrate my life with the money that would be spent on a funeral going to charity. I'd rather people remember me as a living person that as a body in a coffin.
  6. A word of caution. This isn't very effective. In several third party viewers the person knows your hiding because they can tell you did that by looking at their friends list. Its also not that hard to find out if someone is online if you have it checked or not or even if you aren't on the friends list of someone.
  7. I agree. Show the item in a typical setting with people in it to give a good idea of scale, but also have another picture of it against a plain background to show exactly what they get. You can put in the description that some items in the first pic are not included and are for illustration only. Actually, you should have a number of pictures showing the overall look as well as a few that focus on details that you want to point out or even screen shots of the menu if it has one. The more pics the better. You can have up to eight total. You can also put a link into a photo sharing site to show more and to a website or machinima too if you have them. If you don't have a shop inworld where people can look at it, you may also want to tell people how to contact you to see it in world if they would like to see it before purchase. Generally the more pictures and information you can give, the better, especially on expensive items.
  8. It appears genuine. Nice that they released the new viewer with such a huge security issue.
  9. If 40 is elderly, then there are a lot of geezers in SL. So much so it could be considered a retirement 'home'
  10. I can only add that once I commissioned a split profit script that had a check mechanism. The scripter wrote it so that if I touched the prim it was in, and the commission in the script was set to split with my avatar only for the correct percentage it gave me a code phrase by IM. The scripter gave it to us no mod so no one could change it too. The price of an item was put in the description field and the script handled the sale like a vendor.
  11. 1. The only thing you can count on when you file an AR is a form letter telling you they got the report, and another one when they close the case. The last letter doesn't even tell you if any action was taken or not due to privacy concerns 2. LL may not act on a AR if they don't think its founded. They won't agree if there is not proof of a clear violation of TOS or CS, or in your case, the communication from others doesn't rise to the level of a real 'threat' 3. Action could be doing nothing at all, a warning issued, a suspension for a length of time determined by the seriousness, or a ban. For 'misdemeanors' if a person has a clean record they only are warned. They may have received a days suspension, but you wouldn't know unless you were stalking them, as its not uncommon for people not to log on every day. 4. LL will not get involved in disputes between people unless the disputes involve #2 above. 5. I am not aware that it is against TOS to put anything but a RL picture of yourself in your first life tab. If it is a major segment of the population would be in trouble. I may be wrong but this sounds more like more a case of drama between you and this other individual. Why would you care what picture she has in her profile. Would you have filed a AR because she put a picture of an elephant there?
  12. I wouldn't feel the same if my avi looked radically different and I can relate to this feeling. I know people that change everything so much that I never know what they will look like when I see them. But not me. I only change skins when I can find one that improves the realism of my avi without a noticeable change in facial features. I can wear different hair every day but they are all in the same color and its more of a change in style, like I may change my RL hair from day to day. My shape is the same as its always been since I made it in my first days in SL, and I only recently got new eyes because they look more real, but they are the same color and size. Changing outfits doesn't really make me feel different. I've worn all kinds of things. If I explore and go to a role play sim I will generally dress according to the style oft he roleplay. But I consider that fun and I'm still me under the clothes.
  13. Trixy, I was giving you reasons from an employer's perspective (based on experience actual experience) as to why so many jobs require you to be at least 30 days old. What I said is of course a generalization. I also stated there were exceptions and for all I know you may be one of them. I myself have hired people less than 30 days old with great results, but they were the exception. I offered the information so that if you are an exception, with this insight you may be able to overcome the 30 day restriction. Best of luck to you
  14. Sorry to hear of your illness. To file a support ticket or to track one go here.
  15. The best clothing in my opinion, is a combination of both textures and sculpted prims. I personally refuse to wear any system skirts, as they are awkward looking, the texture distorts horribly when you move and the are out of proportion to the rest of the avatar. I also haven't been that impressed so far with mesh Other than one or two items, I've not seen any that are an improvement. Also you can't mod mesh. I refuse to alter my shape to fit clothes, only the clothes to fit my shape. I'm keeping an open mind about mesh though. If I find mesh clothes that I really like and that fit me well, they I'll buy and wear them.
  16. You can do this, but you have to stretch each part seperately. Do this by checking teh Edit Linked Parts in the tool box then click on one of the prims. You will see colored boxes that allow you to stretch it up and down or side to side. You will also need to move the prims around to keep them in the right place relative to the other prims and also may need to adjust the repeats and placement of the textures. While it will be a good learning experinece, this can be very tricky for a new person or somone who has no building experience. I know people that have been in SL for years that would not attempt it. So be sure to keep a copy of the building you can use if you mess up. You best bet is to ask someone that has building experience to help you, by doing this for you or supervising you as you do it if you want the learning experience.
  17. One of the reason for the 30 day requirement is to allow new people time to learn the basics so they can function well and to put together a nice looking avatar, with good skin, hair, eyes etc and a nice wardrobe. Unless you really have spent a lot of time hunting for just the right thing, this is not something that you can do with things you get at freebie places. It generally takes at least 30 days for people to accomplish both these things. The second reason is that new people generally are not that reliable from an employers stand point. My own experience in hiring new people is that lots of people come into SL, then end up leaving it after a few weeks, or find out after exploring more, that what they thought they wanted to do here wasn't at all what they want. After I spent time training the new employee, newbs tend to quit or just not show up when they are scheduled to work. Not only are people who have been in SL for a while more capable of handling a job and take less training, a lot of them have or want their own homes and are willing to be more reliable at work to pay their rent or tiers Lastly, many jobs require that you oversee the venue and are able to handle trouble makers, particularly any job where you work with the public, which is most jobs. If you are a newb, a more experienced person will be able to circumvent you pretty easily and in general you just aren't accorded the same respect as an experienced avatar which makes handling people more difficult. There are exceptions to this of course. Some new people catch on to SL very fast and will spend the money to put together a nice avatar almost from the beginning. If you are one of these people, than your best bet is to try to talk to a potential employer face to face so they can evaluate this themselves. Otherwise, take the time to explore and learn as much as you can about SL during your first weeks here. Work on putting together a nice looking avatar. In the long run, not only will you be more comfortable in a job, but you will probably get a better job than you could at this point.
  18. I agree with the OP. Yes, Peggy, I knew what the charge was when I got my sims. BUT I also got good support and concierge service that you don't get now. It used to be you could call and talk to someone that knew what they were doing and that could fix most problems then and there. If they couldn't they would refer the problem up the ladder and you generally had a quick response and the problem was resolved. I had problems with my estate that were severe. Nobody could tp to my sims unless they were an estate agent. Also, a sim was moved into the general area of my estate, and when you did try to tp to one of my sims using its landmark, even if you were an estate agent, you ended up on the other estate's sim. If you tried to use a landmark for that sim, you landed on my sim. After months of hearing excuses, outright lies, and finally the lindens trying to shift blame for this to me, I had enough and got rid of all my sims. I refuse to pay what I did for such crappy service. I still manage some estates and 99 percent of the time when I need support I get "file a ticket" and then wait and wait before any action is taken. If for no other reason than the value of the support service has gone down, tier should too. Also LL is running more sims per server than they used to, so their costs have decreased quite a bit. But I too think more people would be here if land prices were cheaper. I know tons of people that left SL for the open grids for this reason only and are willing to accept lower tech standards to get a more affordable land price. However, I know many would return if the prices were more reasonable here.
  19. I enjoy traveling if its possible and i have the time, otherwise I TP. When i do travel longer distances it is by motorcycle on land, sailboat on the water generally. Shorter distances i'll walk.
  20. I've had people try to get over on me by requesting replacements of products that they never bought. So, I would have done the same as you did. Anyone can make up a fake transaction record. So that is not real proof unless you can match it with one on your records. When an item is transferable there is no way for you to know if she gave the item to someone else thinkiing she could have it replaced. I have a firm policy not to replace items that are transferable unless the customer can return the original item to me AND that the problem with the item happened through no fault of the customers. Lastly, since you didn't get paid for the item you are under no obligation. If LL took the money from her account then they are the ones on the hook, not you, until they post the transaction in your account history AND pay the money to you. If she has a legit claim then the Linden's should be able to straighten this out and do this. Even basic account holders can file a ticket for Marketplace support. If its not a legit claim, then I doubt she'll file a ticket .
  21. I had the same thing happen yesterday. You can contact the sellers and send them the transaction information on a notecard and ask for redelivery. But be patient for a reply as they aren't online all the time or even every day. You can also file a support ticket for failed delivery on the Marketplace , even if you are a basic account.
  22. I use the profile feeds of Lindens sometimes to post things. I don't use my own. In fact I have turned mine off. I don't need to have something broadcast to everyone every time I clip my toenails and I don't want followers. I also don't need to post things on friends feeds. If I have something to say to people I can IM or send a notecard. The only reason I use the linden feeds is that I know they will have to see it eventually.
  23. SLT is the same as Pacific Standard Time. You can use a time zone converter, many of which are on the web. Here is a link to one of them: Time Zone Converter
  24. No, however you may give up your linden home and buy land on the mainland that will allow you to do this. The first 512 you own comes tier free, anything more you will be charged a monthly tier for. However keep in mind that a 512 lot only supports 117 prims which must include your house. A linden home on a 512 lot doesn't count toward the available prims you have so you have that 117 to use for personal things and furnishings.
  25. What Kwakkelde said is true as you are not supposed to have any prims outside your property line. Also, the Lindens don't allow megaprims larger than prims you can make youself on the mainland and will delete them if they find them or somone complains about it. So be prepared for them to poof without warning if you do use them.
