  1. :smileymad: This is appalling but I can't say I'm surprised. More and more they seem to be trying to hide from their customers instead of fixing things that have been broken for years, giving good customer service and listening to their customers. That is why they are getting such negative views. People are fed up. If they want to test RC's on sims, then it should be done on LInden owned estates or mainland. On a private estate the owner should have to volunteer and get a reasonable break in the tier in return, after all they are already paying $$100 US more a month than the mainland tiers. If they did that, they would probably have to turn away 'volunteers'. If I'm paying full premium price tiers, I should should be on as bug free and stable server as possible, not one being tested without my permission. In RL products being tested are not foisted on consumers against their will, and it shouldn't happen here.
  2. Be sure that if you wear a face light that the light doesn't shine on your feet. Its one of them main causes of not getting a good match. The prim feet shoes and barefeet I have came with a HUD for skin tones and the ability to 'save' your colors. If they don't, I just make copies of the shoes for this reason. When I get new shoes, I match my skin tone in all four lights, sunrise, midday, sunset, midnight. Then if my feet look weird because of a light change, all I have to do is click a button to fix them or make a quick change if i'm going to remain there for a while. I start skin matching at midday lighting, then when I get a good match I save it and move to another sun setting. Usually it only requires a bit of adjustment for each light situation. It is a bit more work to do it this way, but it only takes a few more minutes. I have also found that I can wear stockings if they don't have patterns in them because I can color match the feet to my stockings. Textures are somewhat compressed and distorted anyway when you wear stockings on avi feet, so unless someone is camming my feet REAL close you can't really tell its just color matched. I have also found shoes that have built in fishnet textures that allow me to wear those too. If I'm wearing other patterned stockings, I generally wear a boot anyway and that takes care of the problem with those To me , no matter how good the shoes look, if they don't have prim feet I have cankles which is one of my biggest fashion pet peeves. So I rarely where shoes without feet in them anymore except with long skirts or pants that cover the ankles..
  3. If a covenant doesn't ban breedables, you may be told to remove some or all of them anyway. Many covenants have a clause that the owner reserves the right to tell you to remove / or return stuff that is using to many of the sim resources. This can not only add to lag, but the resources aren't available to other lot owners. Even if it doesn't have a covenant the estate owner would be irresponsible allowing such a small lot to suck up a huge chunk of server time and the owner has a right to control this. On no covenant the mainland, the Lindens will tell you to remove things under these circumstances particularly if neighbors complain. The owner will more than likely take the size lot you own into consideration when deciding this. Even though you may be able to physically put a number of animals on a 1026 , if you pack it you will be using server time way out of proportion to the percentage of the sim you own or rent. If you pay tiers on a quarter sim, you expect that on average 1/4th of the server time is available to you. This has gotten to be a large enough problem that in the near future, land in SL will not allow you to run scripts past a certain point. The server time allocated to a lot will be in proportion to its size, just like prims are restricted to certain amounts now based on lot size. If you go over your limit then the scripts that put you over won't function at all. Bottom line: Even if i were looking at land on a breedable friendly sim, I'd ask how many animals I'm allowed on that size lot to avoid any unpleasant surprises in the future as they breed and produce more.
  4. Yes you can do that, but you need the very long email address for the avatar which includes their avi key. The easiest way to get this is to have them send you an IM when your offline and your IM's are going to your email, then save the address in your email address book.
  5. There are AO HUDs on marketplace. You can also find them inworld buy using search. You should go to the shop that sells them and try the animations before you buy as quality varies quite a bit. Most marketplace listings will give you a SLurl for where to go. You want to look for true animations, not 'poses' or 'static' animators. The more stands you have the more random it will appear to be as you move around. You may also want to consider one that has several walks, sits as well as ground sits and that will allow you to ground sit anywhere for the most flexibility. You can buy AO HUD's already loaded and ready to go or you can get a Zhao HUD for free and buy the animations to load into it. Most preloaded HUD's will also allow you to add animations to them also so if you like the ones you got, you can add them in. Some of the AO HUD's also include the ability to act as a dance HUD too and may even come with a few dances. Some make your avatar appear to breath too for added realism. A good AO HUD is not cheap but it is worth the investment as it brings you avatar to life.
  6. There are shoe kits you can buy that come with scripts that build the shoe for you showing you as the creator. What you do is create the number of prims the directions tell you to create, and then either link the set and put a script into it, or put the prim inside or on a scripted object. When its done, all you have to do is link the shoes and texture them. Most of these kits come with texture maps that you can import into photoshop or gimp and use to create your own textures the same way you do clothing. Some kits are sold with textures already made, and some are sold separately for the specific shoe. There are machines on the marketplace that do the same thing for kits you get without the scripts discussed above. They too will produce a replica of the model that came with the pack showing you as the creator, if the model is full perm or you have the maps depending on the machine you buy. Other than these two methods, you build shoes the same way you build any other sculpted object. Just like other sculpts some will take any seamless texture, and other's require you to create a custom baked texture for it. Since you make clothes already, you should have no problem with this because it is the same way you make textures for sculpted prim clothing pieces. Commercial HUDs that will allow the customer to match skin tone, and choose nails or any color and texture options you offer, are also available on the marketplace. They are configured by notecard. The HUD's prims are generally modifiable so you can put your own logo and any custom graphics on it you want. If you can script you can also make one of your own.
  7. Not sure about the SLV3 since I won't use it, but In many other viewers, what other's see depends on how they set their own preferences. You have a choice to see the user name only, the display name only or just the display name. I want to see both. I don't care for display names as they change and I think and remember people by their user name, which never changes. However out of consideration for the other person, I try to address people by the name they are currently displaying. Most others have theirs set up how they want to see names and that's what they see regardless of what you do. Other than setting up your own personal preferences to display what you want it see, you can't control or worry about what other people are seeing. The solution to your problem is to set you own viewer so you only see display names.
  8. I'm surprised the land sculpter didn't work for you. I've been able to acheive some very nice effects with it. I've used it for making beaches on grass sims, green areas on sand sims, and also for snow.
  9. Someone else the same thing a couple days ago; Here is the link with the answer
  10. If this is your original work and the DMCA filings are being done to you to harass you for competitive business reasons, then the people behind this are nuts. Nor only can they be held liable for for a false claim, which can cost them plenty in punitive damages if you sue them, but LL may ban them from SL because abuse of the DMCA process is grounds for that. Since you are filing a counter notice, the filer must now take you to court to pursue this. If they don't within a limited time, then LL will restore the content to the grid that they took down. At that point it is up to you if you want to sue them for damages due to false claims. You may want to tell LL about what you think is going on here too, so that it is on the 'record'. If your account does get terminated by LL there is an appeal process for that which should be pretty straight forward if no one takes you to court. There is no lack of communication from LL on this. LL has clear information about the DMCA and SL on their website here: http://http://secondlife.com/corporate/dmca.php. There are also links there to the 'official policy and guidelines' documents of LL. However LL is not able to give you advice or tell you what to do legally. They only tell you how they will act in the matter. You should probably talk to your lawyer, as advice is his or her job. Good luck to you
  11. You may be thinking of xytext. This is done with a texture and a script. A simplified explanation of how this works is that the texture is a single one with the whole alphabet on it, and the script tells the prim what position to display the texture in so only one character is seen on that surface at a time. Since xytext involves textures PLUS a script it can actually take longer to see and cause more lag than a simple 24 bit texture would. Xytext is handy for boards where the information must be changed constantly, such as a contest board, an event board, or even the boards you see in clubs that tell you what is streaming and the name and title of a song but is overkill for simple signs.
  12. First, I assume you are the owner of this group. If your not, you may not have the authority to invite other people to be members and need to either have the owner do it or give you the authority to, if they don't mind that. If you are the owner or have the authority to invite new members then read on. When you issue invitations, and click on the people picker, you should see three tabs. One for friends, one for people 'nearby" and one that is for everyone else. That one is based on people search, so it should work for any SL resident with an active account. If it doesn't then see if someone else in your group can invite people to determine if its you or the group that is having a problem. If its you, then clear your cache and relog. If that doesn't fix it, then I'd reinstall the viewer as it may have been corrupted. If that still doesn't fix it, then you'll need to file a support ticket if your a premium member. If its the group that is having the problem then you'll need to file a support ticket.
  13. If your statement "a user license does not override the existing permission system" and "No Copy and No Transfer are no less license conditions and, in fact, inheritly override the user license via the mechanics of the asset/inventory permissions system.', were true, then a user license for full perm items would be useless too. You can't have it both ways. The TOS states "You retain any and all Intellectual Property Rights in Content you submit to the Service." but no where does it state in the TOS the the existing permission system overrrides the user license a creator chooses to grant to buyers other than the exceptions specifically stated in regards to LL, machinima and snapshots. The permission system is only a tool to help content creators enforce the user license you choose to grant. For example, If you choose sell something as transferable, so people can give it as a gift, you also may choose to restrict a buyer from reselling the item in a user license that states this. I have bought items that has this restriction in a written user license. In fact more and more I have seen content creators include a user license on items that are not full perm that more specifically states the terms of use that refines restrictions indicated by the permission system. Of course it is up to the content creator to enforce the terms of their user license through legal channels. The user license option is a good idea, as it informs the consumer that there may be other terms other than the simple mod copy transfer status. If the full license is not stated in the description, the potential buyer may then ask to see the user license prior to purchase if they desire. So this protects the consumer as much as it protects the seller.
  14. When you first establish an account and/or put new payemnt information on file, there is a verificiation process that LL uses that takes a few days. 15. Why give them a place to practice and refine their griefing? Also, it would just spawn more griefers. People would go there to learn how to grief that don't know now or pick up new methods. Griefers don't want to play by any rules. They are out for getting attention and grins at other people's expense, just like bully's on the playground. They are immature babies and shouldn't be given any perks that will only encourage them.
  16. I won't buy shoes where invisiprims are the only option period. Until everyone is using a newer viewer both alpha layers and invisiprims should be included in new shoes. I have removed all the invisiprims i can from my shoes and deleted them all out of inventory because i can use the closet space. Shoes that are no mod that I can't remove the invisiprim from I seldom wear anymore.
  17. FIrst, I'll say I use a mesh viewer. I think your post about those that don't are refusing to move with the times is ridicules. Have you considered that a lot of people don't have computers that are capable of running the new mesh viewers and don't have the funds to go out an buy a new one with the economy in the pits? I'm sure they'd be thrilled to upgrade to a mesh viewer if you'll like to buy them a new computer. With time, people will go to mesh as their computers are replaced and the viewers are improved, but right now a huge number of people aren't. The majority of my friends haven't simply because they can't stand the poorly thought out UI of the new viewers not because they refuse to go with the times. As soon as a good viewer that isn't laggy and has a user friendly interface is available, most of my friends will readily change.. No one is holding you hostage. You have choices. Your free to wear 100% mesh if you choose to. Most people know by now that the lumps they see you wearing are mesh. But if this bothers you, your other choice is to wear texture/prim clothing. If it bothers them, its not your problem.
  18. Not sure where to get it but its mesh hair. Wasabi Pills, maybe?
  19. Welcome back to SL. You need to learn how to use the basic tools in the edit box first. Go to the Ivory Tower Library of Primitives where they have a self tutor that you can take at your own pace. This will teach you enough so that you can mod things as long as they aren't mesh. Depending on what your looking to create, you will also need to learn about textures and scripts. There are classes on this. Most textures are done in Photoshop or GIMP which is a free program like photoshop. You can take classes for these inworld. Keep watch on the event schedule. There are also some schools around SL that teach these skills as well as online tutors outside of second life. For other than basic prims, you need sculpt maps or mesh items. These things are sold in world for builders. The wiki lists programs for these if you want to make your own.. The most sophisticated free one is Blender, but other programs such as Maya and 3D Max etc.can also be used. The Wiki gives you a list of them that will work, from very basic to very advanced programs. Again, in world classes or on line tutors are how you can learn how to use these. Finally there is a Creation Forum here where you can ask questions as well as a number of groups in world where you ask questions in group chat for the area of content creation they cover. Unless you already bring 3D modeling and content creation experience to SL, don't expect to learn it all over night. It can take quite a while to learn. Even learning basic building and being able to turn out a basic house will take awhile and lots of practice.
  20. SL is what you make it. Its hard to make recommendations when the only interest you mentioned is gambling. Since 2007 SL has become a whole different world. If you have been in just occasionally to look but only stayed a short time, you've missed a whole lot. Edit your post and put in some things that interest you in RL, that you'd like to do but can't do in RL and I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions.
  21. Imnotgoing Sideways wrote: Personally, I think no-rez and no-scripts is stupid. =^-^= Actually no its not. Anytime i've left my land open for anyone to rez on without a short autoreturn, i've found squatters erecting homes in the air. One time i found a whole neighborhood of skyboxes a bunch of friends had put up together that even had interconnecting bridges and walkways. When I told them politely to remove them and leave, they were so rude and obnoxious i ended up booting and banning them. Sorry but i work too hard for my money to be paying for some one else's SL, and don't want to spend my time policing my land.
  22. The reason you can't find such a small plot is because most private estates don't allow them. They don't want people putting up ad boards there. Since ad farms have been banned from the mainland, I'm not even sure you can sell a small plot like that. But i avoid mainland because its generally laggy and junky. Perhaps someone else can say for sure. Also, you can't put a parcel in search unless its at least 512sqm. Anything less than 512sqm wouldn't have enough prims on it to make it worth much of anything to anyone other than as a billboard spot. So from a landowner point of view they don't sell such small spots because if they did and you didn't continue to pay for it, they'd be stuck with land they couldn't do anything with and would have to pay the tier for it themselves. As others have said there are plenty of places around that offer changing rooms and rez areas. No need to pay a monthly tier just to open boxes. Save your money until you can rent a small home of your own and you'll be much happier. You may want to search classifieds for an apartment or skybox, as some of these go for less than what you'd pay for a nice outfit. Some as little as 50L a week. There are also hotel's and campgrounds that will rent to you for a day.
  23. Before you give it a bad rating, consider this. It isn't necessarily a rip off. Most merchants are honest and wouldn't stay in business long if they were not. It could have been a mistake in the automatic delivery system or several other honest errors. There have been issues with marketplace deliveries recently and a new upgrade to the site just went in. Contact he seller with full details including all transaction information and I'm sure they will send you what you ordered. Be patient for a response, since sellers are not on line every day sometimes. If they don't reply within a reasonable time, you can file a support ticket and get the correct product or a refund if that product is not available.
  24. We are not lindens here, only residents helping residents, and not privy to what LL does. So we can't answer this question. If you have been AR'd for something serious it may have been connected, but that is just speculation. You may want to contact the Lindens themselves about this.
  25. It happens both in SL and RL. Ideas in an of themselves can not be copyrighted. File a DMCA if you think its an illegal copy of your work. However if they just used the idea and wrote original scripts and created original textures then you won' t be successful. BTW, after looking at your product, I have to ask: do you have a license for using the RL trademarks and images your using? If you don't, its against TOS and the MP Guidelines, to say nothing of a violation of the DMCA too. Not picking at you, but you may want to change that if your not legally licensed to use them, for your own protection.
