  1. I focus on a few themed yearly events (and a couple of hunts that actually have people doing them). Fantasy Faire alone pays for most of my yearly expenses, so I don't technically need to do much after that. The monthly events look exhausting to take part in and I don't visit them often unless someone points me to a specific item. One issue is merchants feel they must do these events, even to the point of making a big loss overall. Being told to stop taking part in events that don't make money shouldn't be a revelation, but apparently it is.
  2. They released a bunch of other theme regions with the fantasy launch, which tends to make it harder for people to get specific new regions due to there being a lot of abandons at the same time. So if they're cunning, they might do that with the modern release.
  3. I've suggested upping the tier before, to more than you could use on a Linden Home, but nobody listens to us mushrooms! It doesn't need to be much. Just enough that people can get a small parcel in addition to having a home if they want (or they can use it all on a bigger mainland piece). It's a lot easier to persuade people to give it a try when they have some tier and nothing else to do with it. They're not going to give it a try if they have to abandon their house or buy more tier. There's plenty of abandoned land, so that side is sorted. A lot of the other stuff that people suggest is not stuff that most people really know about or care about, because they've not really tried owning mainland before.
  4. More included tier and cheaper upload fees. I'd also love my own region, but I doubt they'd add much in the way of a discount on that (I'd like to be wrong).
  5. I'm a writer and artist. I couldn't do a whole lot with long covid, but I'm getting back into things now.
  6. No, because I know to hit a deadline for sure, it means crunch. That pressure makes people burn out and leave the industry. It can cause lifelong health problems. I'm perfectly happy to wait for things so that employees get to have their holidays and don't have to do massive overtime. On the other side, people make more mistakes during crunch times, so the product would have more issues on release. It'll be ready when it's ready, which is better for everyone.
  7. Go read the one-star reviews for your favourite book. It's perfectly normal for items to get a range of reviews. It's much more harmful for something with a lot of reviews to have zero bad reviews, because that doesn't usually happen unless the reviews are fake. You need the bad to make it clear the good are the real deal. As this is as a customer, not your own product, make sure your review sticks to the point. Talk about why you like the product. Don't mention the other reviews. That's all the merchant needs from you.
  8. I don't have notes on people I talk to a lot, but I add notes for people I don't think I'll see very much. The bad notes are where someone has harassed, griefed or otherwise done something bad to someone. As well as making sure I don't forget it, this means they can't just change their name to pretend they're someone else.
  9. This is a different issue to the original one. It's not about creating or talent, but about marketing. If something doesn't earn you money, ditch it. Marketplace adverts are usually in that category. Events are an event by event thing. Ditch the ones that don't make money and focus on the ones that do. If you find that no event makes money, even though it's a very busy event, look at how the product is packaged. Take a look at how people selling similar stuff package things. I don't bother with the endless monthly events, as that's just a way to burn out with little return. I pick a few events in the year that I know do well and might try some new ones when I have time. This year will be busy, so I'm aiming at only a few of the best ones. Take advantage of free promotion (like putting your shop in your forum signature... that's allowed and completely free, so go for it).
  10. Fantasy has a whole bunch of regions that look ready to go. They were from the initial bunch of cloned regions. I'd be surprised if they don't release those soon, now the others have filled. The coastal fantasy ones don't look ready yet though.
  11. I started out with no experience in 3D or texture work. I wanted to make mushrooms, so that's what I did (sculpties at that point, as it was before mesh). I wanted a mushroom avatar and didn't like the ones I'd seen, so I made one. I wanted a mertail for my mushroom avatar, so I learnt how to rig mesh. Each time I've learnt something new, it's been because I had a set goal in mind and found the tutorials and answers for how to make it work. So pick a project and work towards it. If you want to try 3D, start with a simple static object that you'd like to make.
  12. The theme was never going to be my thing, but they look the way I imagined from the general theme idea. They're very different to the other themes, so that's more choice for people. The mix of parcel sizes is a nice feature.
  13. I always have trouble knowing if it's a window or door with that sort of style. I guess there will be more walking into windows thinking they're doors in my future, not that I'll be sneaking into the houses to steal all the fruit out of the fruit bowls.
  14. Someone could make their dream horror house.
  15. It should be noted the original suggestion wasn't this. It was for open build areas with no theme outside of adult. If all that's wanted is open pieces of themeless land to put adult stuff on... finishing Zindra is the most sensible way to add it. What I'd imagine an adult Linden Homes area would be is a continent with a bit of each of the new themes, but with its own name and next to Zindra. That means each plot would have a house as usual. People would still have to follow all the usual rules, other than the adult content rules being different. Any outside furniture and such would need to be in theme. What would be nice is people cutting out the prude business and such. I'm asexual and indifferent to your sex dungeon. This means I have different hobbies to you, not that I'm a terrible person.
  16. The only one of my quick links that wasn't down was the Bellisseria fairground, so I'm taking the water taxi around some of the few surviving regions. It does have a very last survivor post-apocalyptic feel.
  17. It definitely wouldn't stop them. Adult mainland exists. That didn't stop someone opening a public sex area on the general region where I have my shop. People who don't read the rules will continue to not read them.
  18. My experience of malls is they don't usually earn enough to pay the rent. That's why malls end up empty. People would stay if they actually made money. Mall-style events work better. There was one of those run on the fairgrounds, which was run by the moles and free to sign up. But the main focus seems to be the shop & hop events.
  19. She needs to pay the debt and release the house and change the account to a free account. It's not a choice which to do. All the things need to be done. The house (and any mainland owned) must be released before it'll let the account be changed to a free account. She can continue to own land on private regions (places where the region owner is another resident).
  20. I consider Bellisseria and the mainland as areas that complement each other, rather than compete. I'm not alone in having a Linden Home and a mainland area. I use them for different things. From a business perspective, it's an advantage for Linden Lab if people do this. It means extra tier payments. So they're really not trying to discourage people from doing all the things.
  21. That looks like the Christmas Expo thing, rather than a new theme.
  22. The deadline for picking up the skelly bear is Sunday 14th November 2021 (it's past that for me, but probably still that for others). So if you haven't got it, don't wait any longer to go look.
  23. There's no reason why the house has to look like a regular house inside if you don't want it to. I don't have any need for a kitchen or bedroom or stuff like that. I just filled mine with fun stuff and mushrooms.
  24. If we're getting all the coal from Santa, I guess that makes us the baddest hunters out there!
