  1. I always use an alt when taking photos. Technically, it’s a selfie even if there are two avatars.
  2. Maybe give yourself as a gift. I’ve seen those ribbon dresses with the bow tied between your legs.
  3. For me there has always been this expectation that I would hear a conversation like you’d hear on television, radio, news shows, interviews etc. or even like regular people talking on the street, cafe, store. But, voice in SL is something else. I don’t know what happens but the anonymity and non face to face interaction with no physical presence seems to make in-world conversations very strange. LL turning off voice in their regions might be a boon for private regions and land owning residents. Maybe a new kind of conversational clubhouse could be created.
  4. The 10,000 Maniacs/Natalie Merchant songs for the dead Bullfighter - Manuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez aka Manolete - died 1947 Actor - River Phoenix - died 1993 Poet - Allen Ginsberg - died 1997
  5. Now when someone tries to Godwin a thread by typing, "This is just what Adolf Hitler would do!" We'll always have to reply, "Which Adolf Hitler are you talking about? The German or the Namibian?"
  6. I must admit that as a gamer it is ingrained in my behavior to enter houses and take things. It’s just a basic gameplay mechanic dating back to when everything was only text based. Enter room. You see a drawer. Open drawer. There is a key and five dollars. Take key and dollars. I can't help it. It’s in my nature.
  7. This has always been a favorite to see during the holidays.
  8. I remember being told a long time ago to never change permissions inside the inventory folder but to always rez what you've created, change the permissions, and then take it back into inventory. It's a good reason to have an alt. You can't really see and experience the end product permissions as the creator. The alt can test the product in the same way a customer would and see if there are any problems.
  9. I just tried it! And.....it works!!! But what an ordeal it was to get it set up. First I downloaded the Firestorm P373R VR mod here: https://github.com/humbletim/firestorm-gha/releases/tag/v6.4.5-vr-alpha-1 With a few helpful notes from the developer here: https://gsgrid.de/firestorm-vr-mod/ And a few more helpful notes from this chap: http://blog.inf.ed.ac.uk/atate/2020/06/04/firestorm-vr-mod-6-3-9/ I have an Oculus Quest (which I bought at a huge discount on cyber Monday last year) and the first problem was that it needed an update. The instructions for updating it are as follows..."just turn your device and let it sit on a table for a while, yeah, it'll update". After an hour I realized this wasn't working so I had to a factory reset and reinstall my fake F*book account. During the new setup it updated! The next step was to run the Oculus software I had installed on my PC a while ago. This is the software for Oculus Rift owners with a VR ready PC. I have the lowest level VR ready PC. To use the Quest on the PC I needed a link cable which Oculus sells for $79! Fortunately, I found an alternative USB cable that costs less. Within the Oculus PC software, I set it to connect a Quest device and then plugged the cable between the PC and Quest. Inside the Quest, I went into options and enabled the LINK. The PC software detects the Quest and inside the Quest, the view changes from the Quest home to the Oculus PC home. Then, I installed Steam VR from the Steam website. With the Oculus PC software running, I launched the Steam VR software and inside the Quest, the view changes from the Oculus PC home to the Steam VR home. Finally, I launched Firestorm VR and it comes up as it normally does on the PC monitor. Inside the Quest, the view changes to just a window that says Firestorm VR. Pressing 'ctrl-tab' enables the VR driver and then pressing 'tab' launches the viewer into the Quest. I could finally see Second Life in VR but it was a split screen and it looked horrible! There is a setting in Firestorm VR called 'texture shift' which can be used to push the screens together and that finally got SL to look like a proper VR environment. Another thing I learned is you need to keep your mouse pointer at the center of the screen! Firestorm VR offsets the view to the corners or sides of the screen if you have your pointer out of the center. The adjustment menu in Firestorm VR is brought up with F5 and you press F5 to scroll through the settings. Pressing F6 and F7 are the up and down adjustments for the menu. It's kind of like how the menus on my monitor work. And that's it! I kind of wrote this as a reminder to myself. The SL graphics in the Quest are blurry and crappy at a distance but crisp and wonderfully three dimensional up-close! Welcome to the myopia simulator! This is actually how other games look in VR though. I didn't get any dizzyness either because SL isn't really filled with the type of motion that causes me problems. So does SL work in VR? I'd say definitely yes.
  10. Maybe there should be an automatic removal for avatars staying on a busy region for over 30 minutes. I don’t know what the average walk-around and buy time is for people but 30 minutes, maybe 15 minutes, should be enough.
  11. I would just join the store's group and see if they drop any announcements. You could go directly to each store and check for any signs announcing a BF sale. You could also check the social media or website for a store. Here's a shopping site that will be listing some of the black Friday sales: https://www.seraphimsl.com/black-friday-sales-list-by-seraphim/
  12. Could be a joint is unlocked in the animation and the avatar still moves because of the general system animations still running underneath. Is this a static pose? If you watch the pose for a minute do you see the avatars moving? That’s all I can think of right now.
  13. I don’t use tags for avatar items because I have one body and one face per avatar. I toss out the rest. I use folders to sort things but I think the only tag used would be the “-evaluate” tag that I use for folders full of demos that haven’t been tried. I have about twenty evaluate tags on folders right now.
  14. As I recall, you can connect a Quest to a PC with suitable graphic power and make it perform closer to the Oculus Rift. Also, to play Steam VR content. There is another thread which mentions the Firestorm VR client.
  15. It’s all about Cyber Monday. And small business Saturday too. I’ve gotten really good deals on Cyber Monday and it’s a heckuva lot safer these days.
  16. Clowns have always been entertaining to me. Never felt any fear toward them. It’s clowns!
  17. On the other side, there is a Market Sell and Limit Sell. Residents can sell linden dollars at the current exchange rate with Market Sell or try to make more real money by using Limit Sell and waiting to see if the exchange rate goes up high enough to their limit.
  18. Vegans protest roast duck! News at eleven!
  19. I didn't really believe in Santa from the start. My parents just gave us presents without pretending it came from Santa. A guy in a sled with reindeer would be kind of unbelievable where I grew up.
