  1. I want to draw a distinction here. When we refer to the "Classic" avatars, we mean avatars that are not wearing mesh attachments for their bodies or heads...in other words, the avatars with shapes that are completely editable with the Appearance sliders, and that can wear system layer-type clothing directly and that don't have a HUD controlling their alpha transparency. You know...the "simple" avatars, the ones that don't cost several thousand $L. We do NOT mean the starter avatars that can be found in the Library section of your inventory. The ones like the avenging angel, the mustard and orange polka dotted 70's guy, the fashionista shopper with her big hat, etc. I know very few people who have stuck to these starter avatars for more than the first day or so. They look pretty awful, and what's worse, they are not easy to edit and customize. Classic avatars, on the other hand, ARE easy to edit and customize. In fact, they're easier to work with than the more "modern" mesh avatars. Classic avatars can look VERY good. The only place where I would say they really need a mesh enhancement is the feet and hands. This shortcoming was taken care of for a long time by SLink, who made popular mesh replacements for the feet and hands. Sadly, they are now closed, and the best way to get nice feet and hands is to go all the way and get an entire Mesh body. You can do this without having to take the next step and replace your classic head with a Mesh head, though.
  2. Fishing game prizes are not redeemable for $L.
  3. Oh, hold on a second! Now here's something that LL really COULD do, and a way for us to get rid of all that old No Transfer, unsupported content. They could create Linden Pawn Shops where you could drop off stuff in exchange for a few $L. LL, I want a 1% commission on this. You read it here first.
  4. Seems to me that SL meets their definition of "social media"...AND their definition of "game".
  5. Today I'm peeved at Linden Lab. It's not a new peeve, though. It's the way LL always tries to horn in on moneymaking concepts developed by the Residents. Cut it out, LL. Just stop, already. You are the platform provider, you are the gods. Be content to remain on Olympus and receive the offerings that are rightly yours. When Hephaestus sets up a hardware store next to Lowe's and starts selling hammers it's not only unfair to Lowe's, it's just demeaning.
  6. There's one big fail for this law: they don't define what "social media" is. Hey, I know! Everybody, we should now all refer to Second Life as.... ...a game.
  7. You're on a roll today, Coffee. Agree 100% with this.
  8. Good lord, she's right. ...immediately bundles up ALL her chat logs and copyrights them.
  9. This is, arguably, not gambling. Yes, there's money involved, and yes, there's the element of chance. But what is NOT present is the chance of monetary gain. It's impossible to win. You are simply buying the right to play. The most anyone can "win" is to remain in play longer before their money runs out. And this is why it is both immoral and doomed to fail. Immoral because it's pandering to those with a gambling addiction. Doomed to fail because it's such a blatantly obvious attempt to take the Residents to the cleaners. See here, LL: In any transaction, there is something given in return for something received. What you are doing here is offering nothing for something, and that's not a transaction, it's theft. Don't you dare come back and tell me that what you get in return for your $L is "entertainment". Certainly there is some element of social interaction and entertainment with the process of gambling, but that's not why people gamble. They gamble because there's a chance to win. And there are endless other forms of social interaction and entertainment in SL, ones that don't involve paying the platform provider additional money.
  10. When you've tried the usual methods of correcting a corrupted local inventory cache, it's time to submit a support ticket. Note that a Premium membership entitles you to a higher level of support; if your lost items are valuable and you are not a Premium member, taking out a one month membership may be worth it.
  11. You can list your rentals on the Marketplace, using the Real Estate category. When I was doing this, the item I actually "sold" was a freebie notecard with information about the properties and a landmark. A website's a good thing, but providing entertaining and useful content can bring in more views. Consider starting a blog! Be sure your rentals are listed in your Profile Picks, and right on the front page of your Profile, too. Put a link to your rentals in your Forum signature. If you have a common area such as a park or a club, host events there. Word of mouth is your best advertising. Be sure to slip a mention of your rentals into conversations you have with people. Offer prizes to tenants who bring in a friend. These days, every landlord is in competition with Linden Homes. Look at your operation in that light and try to come up with something that a) people want and b) Linden Homes don't have.
  12. You could maybe use Beacons to find the particle emitting object. Enabling "view transparent objects" is helpful in locating things, CTRL+ALT+T. Looking at the pattern of the particles can often help visualize the point they are coming from. This will be where the emitter object is.
  13. It's also important to report it because whoever got control of your account may have used it to commit ToS violations...for example, by posting phishing links to lure others. You are responsible for what's done with your account, but by reporting the compromise you are at least showing that any such actions were not intentional on your part, thus reducing the chances of getting a ban from LL.
  14. @Seductress1234, this thread is six years old, and the Lumiya viewer hasn't been supported for at least that long. It's as dead as canasta.
  15. Now, that's something I'd never thought of, @Arduenn Schwartzman! Which region you're in really has a bearing on which region the system thinks your prim(s) belong to??
  16. But...but...it takes more than twice as long to buy something if you have to demo it first! I can only get half of my shopping done!
  17. Several older AOs were objects that were worn on a body attachment point. Those have been out of favor for a very long time, since HUD-type AOs can have controls that are much easier to use...buttons instead of chat commands. I looked at AOs on the Marketplace and couldn't find any of the attached-to-body type, even among the freebies. But there are over 5,000 items in that category and I didn't thoroughly search them all. You might find one or two buried in there.
  18. Can't argue! Need delicious, yummy TREAT!
  19. Zombies only masticate braaaaaaains! ICKIE.
  20. It's like Innula is saying...it depends on where the...I'm going to call this the "center", but it's not, as I'll explain in a moment...of the prim(s) is located. When you rez a prim, it has a "center", the point at which the movement arrows cross, and the point around which the prim will rotate, either by means of the edit tools or if you rotate it with a script. This point is normally at the physical center of the prim, as well. However, you can re-define where this point is, in a couple of ways. If you are using a single prim, use Path Cut to chop it in half. The new rotational center will be at the "end" of the prim where the original prim's axis was. Be sure this end is on Region A. Duplicate this prim, rotate it 180 degrees, and put its rotational center on Region B. Make it transparent and position it so it exactly overlaps the first prim. If your bridge is a linkset, make the root prim of the linkset be all the way at one end. If you have to, create a small invisible prim at the end of the bridge, and make it the root prim. You can use the "Rotate about root prim" setting in the Edit window to redefine the rotational center of the linkset from its physical center to the center of the root prim, but you don't have to. Again, duplicate the bridge, rotate it 180 degrees so the root prim is on the other region, overlap it with the first bridge and make it transparent.
  21. I haven't often been to nudist areas in SL, but this has not been my experience. Especially not "female avatars in some manner of dress." The nudist areas I've visited have had a pretty strict "no clothes for anyone" policy.
  22. If you subdivide the land, creating small individual parcels, you can simply let the land itself keep track. Each 512 square meters can support up to 175 prims. Smaller parcels with fewer prims are quite possible, although 512 is the smallest size that can be listed in Events. The smallest allowable land parcel is 4x4 or 16 square meters and (for Mainland) has a land capacity of 5 prims. If that scheme doesn't work for your situation, you can manually keep track, using About Land in the Objects tab. Clicking the Refresh circular arrow will give you a list of everybody who has objects rezzed on the land, and how many prims each person has. You could do a weekly check and then notify anyone who's over their limit to take in some things. There are also a ton of prim counter devices and scripts on the Marketplace, for a wide range of prices. I used to use the Dreamweaver ones, until I switched over to using the prim counting features built into the Casper rental box system.
  23. Since Rolig has conjured me by mentioning my name, I'll second her thoughts, and add that, in my own opinion, a Premium membership is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to have a home in Second Life. The other ways work fine, too...renting a Mainland parcel, or buying a parcel on a private estate (another form of renting, really). Or if you like dealing directly with LL, go Premium. Then, if a Linden Home is too small for your desires, or you simply don't like any of the styles, you can buy a Mainland parcel and build or buy whatever sort of home you wish. If you contact me in world, I can show you my home, and give you a tour of some other options.
  24. Arduenn and the others here have listed some ways in which No Copy items go missing. I have another: rezzing errors. I have lost a great many HeartVR no copy trees in this way. If my camera position (NOT the spot where I intend to rez the item) is not over my land parcel, but over my neighbor's land where I'm not allowed to rez, and I drag out my no-copy tree and drop it accurately on MY land...I get a snirpy "failed to rez item "Valuable Tree" because the land owner does not allow it" message. The tree, which should have stayed in my inventory on failure-to-rez, has vanished. It is not on the land, not in my inventory, and not at coordinates 0,0,0. It does not reappear in my inventory after a re-log. I don't know if it's something about HeartVR trees or it's just that I set up these conditions most often when rezzing landscaping and I like to use HeartVR trees.
