  1. What goes on at Welcome Island stays on Welcome Island. But, mostly, people rez in at one end, walk to the other end of the basically U-shaped build, and disappear, never having talked to anyone. Except for when someone is creating bots, then a string of "Kar3n001, Kar3n002, Kar3n003..." people appear and then vanish, never having moved from the arrival point. And a few get stuck. Either they think that's all of SL, or they're off playing Tiny Empires and don't even bother to leave.
  2. Krystina is quite right and your friend is not. This system is in wide use. Right off the bat, Desmond Shang's Caledon estate comes to mind. He's one savvy estate owner. Caledon has a Victorian Steampunk theme, but he rents out the land parcels only, not putting any builds down himself. He leaves that up to his residents...much like Linden Lab, come to think of it. Some estate owners put the rental boxes in a separate "office" location, which I actually prefer, because I don't have to worry about the location of an on-parcel rent box when I'm building my home. But the on-parcel system works fine, and it's what Caledon uses.
  3. That's odd. I was able to get there. https://forums-archive.secondlife.com/120/1.html I am using Firefox 112.0.2 (64-bit)
  4. There are no normies. Not a single one. Everyone has some unique weirdness.
  5. Yeah, I get a security warning from Firefox when I click on any link to the Forum archives. But you can still get there. Simply ignore the warning and tell the browser to damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.
  6. In your new ticket, reference the old ticket number and explain you closed it by mistake.
  7. Actually, anyone CAN use the Coca-Cola logo in Second Life...the company gave their permission.
  8. Tell your friend that.... The demographic of Second Life is a lot older than for most computer games. The median age back 12-15 years ago was about 35, and I suspect that has gone up over the years. Certainly there are a LOT of retirement-aged folks behind those 20-something avatars! Local chat, especially in a crowded area like a club, is hard for ANYONE to follow, and most people won't expect you to. Glance at it occasionally, and toss out a comment if you want, but most of the serious talking will be going on one-on-one in IMs. This is why I keep the local chat window detached from the rest of the communication window, so I can see both. The only time local chat gets used seriously, in my opinion, is when there are three or four friends together. If there's a big crowd, you can get the same result by using a conference call with just your friends.
  9. @FluffyAffair, Just like we've been advising the others in this thread who have experienced purchase problems... FILE A FRIGGING SUPPORT CASE!!!!!!!!!! I'm sure YOU know this, but for anyone else who is still confused or clueless: Scroll down to the bottom of this page. Under the column "Connect With Us" find the item "Support" and click on it Follow the prompts to create your support case.
  10. No, you DON'T want to delete system folders! You can, however, delete everything in one, by highlighting the items and then hitting Delete, either the Delete key on your keyboard, or the Delete command in the context menu. ("Context menu" = the menu that pops up when you right click on something). CTRL+X is the shortcut for "Cut". In your inventory, it expects a follow on command of Paste, in some new location. The item you Cut becomes grayed out. When you navigate to the new location and hit CTRL+V or the Paste command from the menu, it appears in this new location and disappears from the old one.
  11. Or, to put it in general terms, Selecting inventory items works like selecting folders and items on your PC. Copy and Paste and Cut shortcuts (CTRL+C and CTRL+V and CTRL+X) also work like they do in other apps. Those clever developers at LL didn't create EVERYTHING from scratch.
  12. Hey, @Johnnynumberfive, here's some Innnnnput for you! ...do as Alyona Su suggested to the OP: submit a Support Case and ask LL to re-set your account.
  13. @Missy0102, Call LL's Fraud Hotline, 800-860-6990.
  14. That would really help the attendance at my weekly Avatar Safety class! *cough* Noon Saturdays, Caledon Oxbridge University *cough*
  15. When they close, do the pets stop working?
  16. As LittleMe and Rowan both said, file a Support Case.
  17. One solution that Qie didn't mention...move one of the regions so that the two of them share a border. You don't gain a whole region of water that you could sail across, but if you terraform things so that one region has its land mostly to the west and other has its land area mostly to the east, you still have a large-ish bay between them.
  18. Friendly neighborhood boffin here! That would be "Third Party Exchange Services" As you say, LL discontinued that practice. But you still find stuff like: Anyone who buys $L from a source like this will likely win a Virtual World Darwin Award. Don't do it.
  19. Hi @Madison Littlepaws! Note that the Skill Gaming regions are not, technically speaking, "gambling". What they have are "skill games". At least in theory, whether you win or lose is determined by your knowledge of the rules of the game and your skill at applying them. (But if you ask me, it still looks and feels a lot like gambling). To access a Skill Gaming region, you must: Have a payment method on file Be at least 19 years old (19, not the 18 that lets you visit Moderate and Adult areas) Not be located in one of the "prohibited states", states whose local laws forbid even online "skill games". These are: Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, South Carolina, South Dakota and Tennessee. I have run across cases where a person's ISP was in one of these states, even though they themselves were not, and they were still prevented from accessing Skill Gaming areas. If that happens to you, try filing a Support Case. But if, in the end, you cannot access these areas, you should actually be pleased. LL (or your local jurisdiction) has probably saved you a whole lot of money. Spend it on shoes instead.
  20. Looking at their product videos, those animations look far more realistic and better positioned than anything I've ever seen. Maybe it's because they are optimized for particular bodies and naughty bits? Or has somebody done some pretty extensive image manipulation?
  21. Well, SOMEBODY had better do some research, because the first thing it would uncover is... ...there IS no tourist industry in SL. I mean, people do explore, sure. And there are a few hotels that exist for roleplay purposes, or a sleazy place to take someone you just hooked up with. But when you can go anywhere in the world with a mouse click, that whole "book tickets, make reservations, buy a resort package, buy souvenirs" industry just is not needed at all Lots of people taking selfies on their travels, though. You can find several huge threads and many Flickr and Instagram pages with those.
  22. I agree with @MiaWasHacked and some others here that even knowledgeable people can be tricked under the right circumstances. I recently fell for a popular telephone scam, even though I was aware of it. Got a call, picked it up. Said "Hello?" A voice on the other end said, "Can you hear me?" I replied "Yes." Click! This is a scam where they record your saying "yes" and then use that as voice verification to take out loans and stuff in your name. As a result, I've put a freeze and a fraud alert out with all three credit bureaus, and am monitoring my finances a lot more closely than usual. As I said, I already KNEW about this. And I teach a class in SL all about scams and how to avoid them. And yet I fell for it, replying to a simple question with an automatic response. Mia...When you submitted your support tickets, did you explain that 1) your account was compromised, and 2) the thief changed your password and registered email account, so you CANNOT respond to messages sent to your email? Tell them you can provide other proofs of identity.
  23. That's not a good strategy for SL. If you check the "remember my password" option on the login screen, anyone with physical access to your computer (spouse, roommate, friend, contractor repainting your room, party guest, little brother) can log into SL as you and cause all sorts of mischief.
