  1. Hello! You will need to contact support and have $9.95 ready as there is a reactivation fee. You can find more detailed information at The article explains in official words what needs to be done, as well as warnings. I recommend reactivating your account as soon as possible as the asset server may purge specific items which it sees as unused, including Linden Dollar balance.
  2. I don't hate child avatars, but I dislike it when they(about maybe half of em?) feel entitled to go where they please. Usually people who put up "no child avatars" in Sims that seem to have no need for banning child avatars have had a bad run in with them in the past, be it them going to an adult sim and everyone started getting panicky and overly cautious about doing stuff, or they have just met those who don't understand that not every time is RP time(constantly baby talking in OOC). It can be cute for occasion goofing off in OOC but not every sentence. Personally, my parcel has a no child avatar policy because of the contents on it. But I do moderate a sim that is a hangout of sorts, which while adult content takes place on there, as long as they are not in the vecinity of it, I don't mind them. If they start doing adult stuff or get near it, then I kick them with my left boot shoved into my right boot. But I have only had to do this once, a lot of the seem to understand how much of a big deal it is when being a child avatar and not getting near adult stuff.
  3. My solution to vampires is a scripted hud to give them a taste of their own medicine. Oh, you gonna bite me? Well let me just give you a dialog box saying your avatars soul has been claimed by me and sacrafice to satan. But really though, it is just a UUID in a database, while I understand it may be a issue that having the UUID in then database feels like you have been unrightfully stolen from(??? I'm grammar today), I feel the same way, but try to just keep in mind it is just numbers and mathematical operations happening at an amazing speed. If they are not sending you stuff like a specific land goblin who sends out daily notecards to thousands of people on SL you probably know who I am talking about but I can't name them, it really isn't that much of a big deal. You can also bring out the wooden steak and beat them with it if it makes you feel better(provided the land you are on permits it, if it is your land, even better!).
  4. This is an example of people who complain about everything because they don't understand it or they don't have something to to complain about / haven't complained about something in the past work minutes so they start grasping for straws. Their argument is there is only male and female avatars choices, but that's because there are two genders(yes even when someone is transgender, they change their gender from male to female or visa versa, not attack helicopter). Even then, it isn't even used to identify avatar's gender, even with LSL it doesn't work well. Lots of men(including me) use the female shape because of the more customisation options for the shape, and now a lot of avatars are consealed by rigged mesh bodies. Another arguement is that the starter avatars with the horses are "programmed" to work with specific genders. That's because of the animation set and the way it is rigged. I've taken those horses apart and used both of them on my female gendered male avatar, and they have worked. If they mean they can't wear it, that's a bug with inventory permissions. They have also stated that the UV mapping on avatars for SL are different for male and female which is false, and there are no issues if you want to be a man and wear a skirt if you are using Linden Clothing. If it is mesh, then yes, a lot of creators use different UV mappings, it isn't a gender thing's it is a matter of how the model is unwrapped. In the end, if they are complaining about being forced to use one thing, they are missing the whole point of SL. You make it the way you want it. if something isn't to your liking, you have all the creation tools available to change it. Also before someone tells me to check my privileges, I am pansexual and identify as male but feel female sometimes and one of my closest friends is transgender, so go bite a dirt cake. (I don't know how else to end it, that's the first thing that popped into my mind and it sounded funny so I put it, I don't mean to actually go bite a dirt cake, I just wanted to say it because if I don't now, I'll never have a opportunity to say it later)
  5. It isn't like Ajit Pai is going to listen, we can have a billion legitimate "don't remove net neutrality" things sent in, all he cares about is removing it because big corporations are doing behind the scenes bribes and woah what do you know he worked for Verizon before he got into politics. There is only one true solution to this, and that's to send him to the echo chamber dimension so he will be happy in a place where the only person that matters to him agrees with him.
  6. There are no lasting effects of being temporarily suspended. The only thing that is simi permanent is your internal record which only Linden Lab can see, it serves as a reference for "did this user listen or are they ignoring us?". The fact your account is locked but you did not receive a email is unusual. it may be that the sim locked the account but forgot to unlock it, although I never heard of such event it is always possible. You can also check https://secondlife.com/my/account/?lang=en-US which should, if I recall correctly, show "suspended" on the account status, or not let you log in. You can also ask support if your account is suspended and if so, why. I believe support has access to the user records so they should be able to give you a copy of the email if it never arrived.
  7. For legal reasons, no. Anything sexual or otherwise adult content like in a general rated location is a big no no. Linden Lab allows residents under the age of 18 and above the age of 15 to access Second Life[1], but only General rated regions. Therefore, putting adult content on general rated regions risks putting minors in view of sexual content. This includes private areas, even if they have ban lines and security orbs. Ban lines only work up to a certain height, and security orbs might not work(EG: Scripts on the region are off). If you wish to put sexual content on your land, consider placing it in private on a moderate sim[2], or somewhere on a adult sim. [1] http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Teens_in_Second_Life [2] http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Adult_Content_FAQ#What_does_.22behind_closed_doors.22_mean.3F
  8. If a object gives you the option to texture it(EG: Dialog), or comes with a texture applier, by all means feel free to texture it to your wishes! If you can add a script to the object that is no modify, chances are, it isn't really no-modify. Objects will show as no modify if they have inventory(such as as script) set to no modify, even if the object it's self is modifiable. If this is the case, again, feel free to texture it to your wishes! But if you can put a script into a object that is no modify, or change the texture to it, you should file a bug report at https://jira.secondlife.com/, as this may be part of a much larger bug which Linden Lab would love to hear about and fix! (In fact, if it is undiscovered and you file it as a security issue, you get a L$10,000 bounty for it!) If this is really a security issue, please read this in full to make sure it gets to Linden Lab properly, without revealing it to the public: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Security_issues
  9. You can get a alt, dress it up, then set it up as a bot to follow you around. It would require a bit of scripting, but something like a text viewer with LSL command plugins would let you tell it to teleport where you teleport, and to stay near you. Just be sure to mark it as a bot if you do this. LL doesn't like unmarked bots roaming around as they skewer the traffic results.
  10. You shouldn't use an alternative account to bypass a ban. Think, "Why was I banned?". Once you think you know why, submit an appeal to the creators of the place that banned you. By evading bans, you are disrespecting the creators of the game, and in most places if you are found out, will make a appeal impossible and a temporary ban into a permanent ban. Please do the right thing and submit an appeal instead evading the wishes of content creators.
  11. Hello! What you are seeing is the use of the viewer's <icon></icon> element. This is what it looks like when editing the profile: <icon>Accordion_ArrowOpened_Press</icon><icon>Inv_FolderOpen</icon>Inventory <icon>Inv_Object</icon>a **** (no transfer) You can find a list of all the usable icons in your Second Life install at /skins/default/textures/. This works in two ways: If you specify .png, .tga, .jp2, or similar, it will look in the /skins/default/textures/ folder. (EG: up_arrow.png, build/Object_Tube.png) If you do not specify .png, .tga, .jp2, it will look in /skins/default/textures/icons/. (EG: InvFolder_Open, Accordion_ArrowOpened_Press) I don't know where you saw someone using gifs in their profile. Second Life's viewer image decoder does not support gifs as far as I know, and wouldn't work in profiles. If anything, it was likely a web page on their "Web" tab. Please keep the following in mind though: This only works with legacy profiles. If you view people's profiles on the new system(web profiles), such as users viewing profiles using the official client, it will only show up with the raw, unformatted text. Some viewers do not implement it so that you will see it on a editable field. You will need to have a friend or a alt to see it to check if it worked properly. If you are browsing the list of usable icons, you need to be sure you follow the casing in the titles. This is for operating systems like Mac and Linux which use case sensitive file names. If you do not do so, it will only show up as a grey 128x128 square. This is not a feature officially supported by Linden Lab, and may change or be blocked in the future. Consider it like Invisiprims. They were a bug but Linden Lab decided not to stop users from using it, However they fixed it later on, breaking it for users who use advanced lighting.
  12. There is no high restriction in the Terms of Service, who ever is telling you that is telling you a load of rubbish. In fact, child avatars are allowed on adult sims, provided they are not within the vicinity of sexual content. Deciding if someone is using a child avatar is and should always be done on a case by case basis. Although this may not be the same procedure as LL, I use it when moderating sims: Is the avatar smaller than the average adult and does not look mature? (EG: Beard, breasts, muscle tone, etc, this is to rule out little people) Is the avatar using child like objects? (EG: Diapers, pacifiers, children toys, etc) Is the avatar in child groups? Do they specify an age for their avatar in their profile? Do they use child like vocabulary? (EG: mommy says i are a child avatar) For reference, my ferret avatar 5.61 feet/1.71 meters(4.970275591/1.51494 meters according to LSL) and is considered an adult avatar. All of my avatars are the same age as me IRL.
  13. As someone who does trolling, I can tell you, this is exactly what they want. This thread in it's self detailing exactly what they have been doing, is a massive goal to them. You are giving them a reaction. Trolls feed off reactions. Ignore them and block them unless you are ready to counter troll them. (I am not advocating you do the same as they are doing, trolling is a art, you must master it before you counter troll, and it must be done within the terms of service) The best course of action is to put a notice in your profile stating you are currently being impersonated, as well as a blog post with more information on the subject. For future reference, when handing trolls, here are the Do's and don'ts: DO block and ignore, eject and ban. DON'T comment on their actions, tell them "enjoy the ban", etc DO AR them if they violate the terms of service or community standards. DON'T tell them they have been reported, or make claims such as "you will get their IP", hack them, etc. Not saying you do this, but it is a reference for all. It makes who ever says it look pretty stupid because it isn't easy task(I'm saying this as a white hat hacker/software dev), and also illegal, and in some states, illegal to just say! DO completely ignore their messages. Anything you do, trolls will feed off of. If you give them the silent treatment, they tend to go away. Disclaimer of sorts: when I say I do trolling, i do the more innocent trolling where I mislead people into a elaborate ruse(eg: tell someone to do a series of unrelated and unusual tasks to get a non existent item in Guild wars 2, only for them to find out I have sent them on a ruse cruise!). I don't do it to tarnish reputations.
  14. Unfortunately, it isn't as simple as one tool. Terrain sculptor simply uses the same technique the bots use. While they don't need to rotate if they were not libopenmetaverse based(telling the server you have a screen resolution of 65535x65535 with 360 fov with 65535 draw distance does the same thing at rotating), they do so to tell the sim "I am looking in this direction, send me the info of what's there!" to download information such as terrain and near by objects. As far as I am concerned, they are harmless. No need to ban them, it won't stop new ones, it clutters ban lists, and so far they only seem to spin. Nothing wrong with freezing them for long periods of time and posing with them though! Some theories go that they are copybotting bots, I have to say this is highly unlikely. Downloading and storing that much data would be unreasonable, especially in a unorganized mess of uuids. Others say they are "stalking" bots, or more specifically, locator bots. That being stuff like findyourfriend which was removed from SL for privacy invasion. I doubt this is also the case. Searching 20,000+ regions with 40 active bots is unreasonably slow and there would be no need to spin. Plus there is the fact keeping such a service under wraps would be hard, especially if you want to sell it. A more reasonable answer to what these bots do are possibly: Grid metric and statistics bots. Indexing stuff like average water height, mega prim usage, terrain elevation, etc. "Get paid to visit" bots, such as traffic cones and coin hunts. Shouldn't be gaming traffic anyway. Camping bots. I could be wrong, but I think LL did ban camping, but I do know such places still exist, these bots may be looking for those obscure locations. Freebie copier bots. Could be archiving freebies, or snatching them up to resell on MP. But to quote(slightly modified) a old commercial, "How many people does it take to find out what these bots do? The world may never know!"
  15. This happens because the LOD sometimes get, glitchy. LOD being Level of Details. From my understanding, the viewer gets confused because of the fast camera movement and avatar movements, so it thinks your camera is about 2,000m or more away from your avatar, so it sets the LOD to the lowest possible setting. I usually just right click it and it resolves the issue for the most part.
  16. The SL14B mysterious egg is a event only item, which unless Linden Lab makes it available else where(EG: Via payments), it is not possible to obtain. However the likely hood of them making it available else where is unlikely, as it defeats the purpose of it being a SL14B egg. But there may be similar related stuff down the road, so keep an eye out. I recommend checking out future official events, as the Moles are always full of fun surprises, and you can find some unique items there. The best way to do this is to keep an eye on the grid MOTD(The little message you see when logging in), and the Featured News blog at:
  17. Hello! Linden Lab is aware of this issue and is currently investigating it to find a solution. You can keep an eye on the current issue at https://status.secondlifegrid.net/incidents/lq38sj9vg5bd Sorry for the inconvenience!
  18. Hello! You can be assured LL does not go off user reports entirely. It's a investigative process when deciding to take action upon a user, and there is decision making on how long to punish the user. If a user gets 100 of their friends to mass report a user because they do not like them, even having them all report a user for a specific reason(Say for example, griefing), Linden Lab does not take the user's word for it, they only use it as a reference. They go through and investigate using their own logs. The simulator logs various things such as what objects a user rezzes, when they rez it, etc. It even saves the state of sims which LL can load up to see whats going on during a specific time. LL can use these logs to rez objects on a special private sim to see if those objects were griefing related, and even load a sim's state to investigate it. LL is very careful when it comes to banning or suspending user accounts as they do not want to punish someone for something they did not do. I hope this brings some peace at mind for you! As for why those three users were banned, various reasons could have happened. They could have been part of a copybotting group and LL had sufficient evidence to prove they were copybotting, or maybe they were sharing user's private info? It could be anything, but Linden Lab still takes these user's privacy seriously and does not disclose the reasons for various reasons such as to prevent targetted attacks.
  19. These is also the stupid patenting MP3 to be aware about(ugh I know, software patents SUCK). To make matters worse, it's licensing program has ended which means it is even harder to get a broadcasting license. The good news is, there are alternatives like ogg and aac(although aac still is covered by some patents, a license to encode isn't required though. My recommendation is to go with ogg encoding whenever and wherever possible. As for music royalties, you can always use royalty free music or music licensed under creative commons. Otherwise, you can look at getting a blanket license which lets you broadcast whatever for a whole year. I don't know where you would get one though, possibly on BMI's website.
  20. From what I know, the inventory and database are in sync. Sims can be rolled back because of the way LL has sims set up, which is, sims save their states periodicly and upload it to the asset server, and a cron goes through and deletes old states(usually a week old). This allows LL to go tell a sim to load a state from maybe 2 days ago. Inventory however, does not have the state save feature, as everything you do to your inventory is permanently saved. In theory, it is possible to restore assets to the inventory, because the inventory is a separate table that works as a pointer that says "This user has this asset in this folder", and doesn't actually have the asset in the inventory table. LL could add assets to someone's inventory, but it is really hard to prove what assets they had unless they dig out a backup of the database and search it. Keep in mind this database table is HUGE, so loading it on a support server just to see what was in there for a user mistake rather than a system glitch is unlikely. If your friend has a back up of your inventory, it may be worth a try to use the old inventory cache to rez said assets in a cube, and put that cube in their inventory. For future reference, I highly recommend structuring inventory like so: Inventory Objects <Unsorted stuff> More Category 1 <Stuff> Category 2 <Stuff 2> Backups (DO NOT DELETE) Important Stuff Category 1 <Stuff> Important Stuff Category 2 <Stuff> It may also be worth checking if you can have some of the stuff redelivered using a redelivery terminal such as CasperVend.
  21. While I do know that some people just idle in the water because it is a quick place to go without loading a ton of stuff, it is more likely bots cluster themselves in one location like so: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Farumier/1/1/1 Sometimes here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Shannavay/1/256/1 As for what they are? No one will know(probably, unless they specify why public)! They are not violating the terms of service, and they are listed as bots(or LL would likely have kicked them off by now). Taking the rational approach(AKA: not assuming they are spying on people), I'd say they are statistics bots that log grid activities, similar to gridsurvey.com(Except, they only have one bot and you rarely see it, at least I have rarely ever seen it). Stuff they might log: Sim arrivals/departures Popular sims Sim map texture UUIDs Or, they might be group inviter/notice/management bots but the owners have no where to place them, so what better place to put them where they won't impact other sims or hog sim agent resources where people actually are renting land? One could say that they are the bots that go out and spam groups with "i need L$100 to finish pay my rent", but if you look at their profiles, they are clearly not that type of bot because they often make jokes about how they live in the water, instead of using the first result off google image results for "sexy girl". So that rules out that. Bots that don't state their business are often misunderstood and seen as evil, but my bot SaltyAlt doesn't specify what he does(at least, he is vague about it), but he isn't evil, he just likes to look at things. There are also the spinny bots, people say they copybot stuff or spy on people. But why would they spin if they needed to do that? My idea is that they are spinning so the sim sends them the entire LayerData(downloading the sim terrain) to do elevation statistics on the grid. They probably have no ill intent but people see them as evil just because they exist. Don't get me wrong, sim/parcel owners have all the rights to ban these bots if they wish, but my point is, if they are not harming anyone, why bother with banning them?
  22. ALRIGHT I HAVE SEEN ENOUGH OF THESE THREADS, time for some THINGS to be done about it. If henmations won't fix it, I will. I'll need some help though. If anyone can pull out the URL that henmations is trying load, I can possibly recreate the service they need using a LSL http server and release it for free. If there is a demo of henmations hud, that would be even better, and I can whip up something and publish it to github so everyone can contribute to fixes.
  23. I would only worry if it is a blue dot rushing towards me at a high velocity because I am mostly idle in my house and the only reason LL would be interested in actually going to my randomly thrown together house is if they are about to send me to the corn field for breaking something too much. Otherwise no, assert dominance by staring them directly in the eyes, when they look away you know they submit to your superiority. At least that's how it works for animals(and furries) most of the time.
  24. As a info yeen, I am doing what I usually do and wait for questions so I can be useful. I also might rewrite the scripts in some ancient avatars later today to help purge lag from the grid. Also replying to this thread because I saw it a lot and never did reply but decide to reply today.
  25. 99% of my avatars(And I have well over 100!) I have use the system body, as well as a lot of other people I know. As long as it doesn't look like Ralph Pootawn/Bluetawn, or something from the Polygon's Monster Factory series, you should be fine.
