  1. In all this I have seen no mention of antivirus whitelisting. You antivirus and firewall can hinder and ultimately kill any software such as an SL viewer fromcommunicating via an internet connection. In all the above cases the Firestorm wiki has suggestions and advice for both whitelisting and run crashes/not responding. Check them out via the Fiestorm Blog. https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_run_crash https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/antivirus_whitelisting?s[]=fs&s[]=whitelisting
  2. No "suppose" here, the game-breaker wasn't the only issue! Oh and FWIW, if your region has been running, as mine had been, for over 14 days without a restart, check your packet-loss on that region. AWS servers are better than the old data centre ones but they still get claggy! Now we can restart our own regions again, it's worth doing.
  3. @LordHappycatOne issue that has presented itself to me a few times is that the urls of some streaming services have been blocked by my AV due their being "known to be used by hackers"... so saith my av support! So far as I know there is no work around for such a situation, but it might be worth checking if the stream urls is blocked by your media filter settings in FS (search preferences, it's either in sound/media or in privacy, I think). In my past experience streams being blocked at the OS or AV stage is far too common for comfort, since AV setting seem always to err on the cautious side!
  4. @Lucy Bronet Soon tm But don't hold your breath!
  5. No no, Ansariel, that is the legacy body, not the Legacy body! 😁 One has to wonder at the mind-set of the folk that thought Legacy was a good name for a new mesh body!
  6. It's remarkable. Second Life is nearly 20 years old and LL have STILL not learned the value of timely and appropriate communication with their user-base! The Bug referred to by @Lucia Nightfire above is clearly something that cannot be promoted to Main Server and yet we have not a word on either the lack of a promoted server version to Main Server nor any comment as to what will happen with the RC channels this week. It is disappointing. ETA Tuesday 2nd 3:30PDT: Well the GSP tells us that there WILL be a roll to the RC channels tomorrow ( Wednesday 3rd) but still no info as to WHAT it will be...no doubt all will be revealed in the fullness of time! Meanwhile my region (Woods of Heaven) has been running 14 days with no apparent issues and NO restarts.
  7. @BeneficiaIHave you whitelisted your viewer in your antivirus programme? You should have the viewer's installed folder plus the Cache folder whitelisted. I can add the Firestorm advice on whitelisting from their wiki, but you do not say which viewer you are using. You should also make sure the viewer is allowed through the computer's Firewall (via the Firewall settings).
  8. @KarraSueSince you use Firestorm viewer you have the option to join Firestorm Support via the top menu Help tab. This in-world group can best advise on the solution to the issue. Simply clearing and reloading your viewer cache is not likely to help, it would be imperative to TP to a low lag region to give it any chance. Hippo Hollow is one of the best. I strongly recommend that joining the in-world support group will give you the best chance of receiving the best advice on the inventory issue if you are unwilling or unable to follow the advice in that FS wiki article I gave you the link to in my previous reply. The fact that her inventory loads on the LL viewer indicates to me that there may be a connectivity problem, but I am not as knowledgeable as advisors in the FS support operation, hence my suggestion to join the in-world group.
  9. @KarraSue Since she sees you both as orange clouds on the LL viewer, it suggests that her connection via the net is not good. It might be worth rebooting her modem or router (ie switching it off and then unplugging it for at least 2 minutes). Is her inventory loading in the LL viewer? See: https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_missing_inventory Also I suggest contacting FS support inworld.
  10. @bigmoe WhitfieldPlease do not believe that I was belittling your considerable experience, I would not be so crass. I merely meant that there are others, more versed than I in the ways of asset- strippers AND software engineers, who could add their comments to this topic. I do not, for one moment, deny the considerable achievement of LL's engineers in uplifting SL to the cloud. I am more concerned about the ongoing situation and the intentions of Linden Research's new owners.
  11. @bigmoe Whitfield I think I will leave others far more seasoned in the ways both of software and hardware engineers and asset strippers (sorry, equity acquisition managers) to point out to you just why you are so mistaken.
  12. Which they'll be losing if they aren't providing what they sell. Grid is in a good tread water position right now , COVID SIP sadly helping. But when you want your region and can't get it for 17 hours--there is a whole planet of leisure options that ARE running 24/7. Just this. Without our income Linden's new owners will lose a great deal of their revenue stream from SL. That ought to concentrate their minds.
  13. I am fairly sure this thread was started this year and not last. I note that all the posts appear to be 12 monthsa old, apart from Theresa's...and yet this popped up as a new thread on my feed before Theresa's warning post...this is very odd!
  14. As a matter of fact that is PRECISELY what they told me. I was informed that my region could only be restarted once the AWS technicians had been informed and were available to do it! It had NOTHING to do with any griefing activity in this case but had occurred (speculation on my part admittedly) due to an incorrect procedure having been applied to the region. Also while Live Chat hours have been severely limited in recent times (for as long as I can recall, in fact) region offline issues have been attended to by LL technicians very promptly at any hour of the day. Clearly this is no longer the case. I have been a regular in SL since 2008 and I have never been so misled by support in all that time. Frankly I am sick and tired of people who are telling us outside the USA that this is an US company and they do things the US way. SL is world wide and it is high time that LL and a good many US institutions learned that there is a big world out there beyond the US coastline, and we WILL be heard.
  15. And it has been a bone of contention with non-US customers for as long as I have been using SL. But that's not the Grist in my mill: that is the revelation, if you can call it such, that SL's servers are no longer under Linden Lab's direct control. We have seen numerous recent indications (map tiles, Aditi inacessibility, lack of new Regions, TP routing issues and regions being offline or inaccessible for hours) of what that means in the last couple of months. To me, it does NOT bode well for the future operation of SL.
  16. This was precisely what I feared would happen once the region hosting was moved out of LL's own server farm. It may well save LL's new owners money but SL is no longer the 24/7 operation that it has always claimed to be. No point in us saying this is not good enough, it is a fait accomplis and it is a significant degradation in the service.
  17. As I understand the reports so far Login to Aditi is only possible for those accounts that have been set up in the past by LL. They are currently unable to copy and sync new accounts to Aditi but there has been no significant news about this since the last GSP post on this issue: https://status.secondlifegrid.net/incidents/q3mnxnpys7dt and there they say the resolution will take "several weeks". Now that was at the beginning of December so several appears to be a largish number! This is beginning to look like the map tile issue, that is the solution "is coming" but don't hold your breath! Reading between the lines, it looks as though this issue is another where the recoding is more complex than LL had realised.
  18. @Alwin Alcott Dear God I hope they would NOT be so stupid.....but I DO wonder....! They said: Aditi (Beta Grid) Issues Subscribe Investigating - We are currently unable to copy and sync accounts to the beta grid, Aditi. We apologize for the disruption. We expect that a fix will take several weeks to implement but are working to shorten that timeline. Residents who have previously logged in should still be able to do so. Please watch this blog for updates. Dec 2, 11:47 PST But that is now nearly two months ago.
  19. I'm doing this simply to put it "front and centre" for LL on this forum. WHEN is this issue going to be fixed? I have seen the Grid Status Page and there has been NO updates about this issue since well before Christmas. It is getting a little old to say that sailing is a pain without it but surely SOME progress has been made with recoding this service? OK we got this: Update - Now that Uplift has finished we are working to restore the map tile functionality. We still do not have an ETA, but please follow this blog for updates and thank you for your patience! Jan 21, 11:23 PST I suspect that a good many of us are finding our patience is wearing a little thin.
  20. @Naiman Broome Yet another VERY good question to which the Lindens must have answers but they are not sharing them with us.
  21. @Chic Aeon Yes my home's traffic is roughly 2.5 times the normal value. Looks like they are fiddling with the numbers again.
  22. @Profaitchikenz Haiku Well, if this is Linden Lab humour, it goes a long way towards indicating why SL is so often borked! In my experience Senior Lindens have shown precious little evidence of a sense of humour. Indeed I have been made uncomfortably aware of their lack of a funnybone in the past, so I am disinclined to see this as other than a rather crass error! Still, it gave us a giggle, I suppose! Especially since no one at The Lab seems to have noticed...too distracted by the upcoming Inauguration, I guess.
  23. @Beretfs You have a problem many folk are seeing. It appears to be related to your GPU driver and seems to be confined to AMD GPUs. There are two solutions. 1) Roll back the GPU driver 2) Turn off "Advanced Lighting" in Preferences ( Preferences>Graphics tab> General subtab - 2/3 way down page "Advanced Lighting Model"and relog. You should see colours correctly now and can turn Advanced Lighting back on. read this FS Wiki article, "The World is Blue" fs_amd [Phoenix Firestorm Project - Wiki] (firestormviewer.org)
  24. This is a first: "Scheduled Maintenance Unscheduled Second Life Maintenance Jan 20, 11:00-11:30 PST We will be performing maintenance on Second Life on Wednesday January 20th at 11:00 SLT. During this time, scripted objects with HTTP OUT scripts in them may may be slow to respond or experience other issues for a short time. Please monitor this blog for updates." Posted on Jan 19, 13:33 PST So...it is scheduled or Unscheduled? Concerned citizens want to know! BTW the answer is "When it's on your face...'coz then it's make-up"
