  1. Better late than never. I suppose I shouldn't grumble about the lateness of the OP, but today's restarts were appalling. My region was restarted at about 8:30am PST and while I was checking over our scripted animals (not breedables!) the region either crashed or was restarted without the usual warning. I must assume it crashed since my avatar was still online in limbo some 15 minutes later, and only an IM from my alt dislodged it. The region was not restarted until over 2 hours later, and I was told prior to that by Support that they could not "nudge" it until the roll had completed. I must hope that Wednesday's roll is a little less incident prone.
  2. @Miller ThorI guess we must assume as much since at time of writing this post the thread has not been created for this week. It is regrettable that the roll is apparently proceeding without any information being posted in this forum
  3. I see suggestions that we need an SL2.0. Really? LL tried that already, it was called Sansar and we all know how well THAT went! Don't get me wrong SL WOULD be better if it was rebuilt around a new, better base programme. The simple fact is that no one can or will spend the resource to make asset transfer between the "old" and the "new" SL possible, and as a result it is a non-starter.
  4. The Grid Status Page now reports that there will be a rolling Restart to Main Channel on Monday.
  5. @Chroma StarlightThere are a number of circumstances where such a thing might occur The two invisible avatars might have actively been shielding themselves and while this can only be achieved using routines forbidden by LL, there are "reported" incidents like this, but to my knowledge they are only heresay. The more likely situation is that for some reason the server you were on did not send their data to your viewer...you did not say whether you heard their voice chat or saw any text chat from them. In the past such occurrences were the result of a rendering bug in the viewer code, but I believe that has been addressed. I would therefore suggest that you witnessed this rare communication failure between the simulator and your viewer. It is a phenomenon that I have observed myself although only with single avatars. In such circumstances I could converse with the invisible avatar and their prescence was confirmed both by "nearby people", the map and my avatar scanner, though the map showed them at some distance from their actual location on the sim. Wiser counsel may know better.
  6. Oddly I have always assumed 12:00PM to indicate noon, since anything that follows is "after"noon (or Post Meridian) and 12:00AM to be midnight. As most folk would agree, noon and midnight are really neither AM nor PM!
  7. Re all this: The thing that stunned me most was that Mark Kingdon actually thought that SL Enterprise, as a "behind the Firewall" entity would actually be attractive to ANYONE! Perhaps it is no surprise that Philip Rosedale was called back to extricate SL from the mess that Kingdon had made of it.
  8. I've been doing a little research into these issues. If you look at Inara Pey's transcript of last week's Simulator User Group, you will see that Mazidox Linden rather flagged up these issues: https://modemworld.me/tag/simulator-user-group/ Also in the top thread in this forum he says: "Next week we're making a one-time effort that might be somewhat unpredictable. This is a complex, multi-step process to make simulators cloud-aware and then cloud-first for various kinds of in-world objects. This will not be the New Normal. Remaining in the intermediate states would result in degraded performance for Residents. We want to avoid that so we are compressing our schedule as much as possible." I very much doubt that they expected it to be quite as bad as this but then, Lindens tend to be on the "gung-ho" side of cautious when it comes to this operation.
  9. @Indy MelodyWell....yes, that would certainly be true if there HAD been maintenance ongoing at the time of my original post. The fact is that there WASN'T and so it was unusual. That there have been so many teleport routing issues and failed logins when no maintenance was being carried out raises some concerns as to the robustness of the system "as is".
  10. Indeed but they also always maintain sufficient staffing to deal with emergencies should things go awry. THAT is what a responsible company does!
  11. Oh dear, the old "entitlement" issue. It is long past the time that Americans came to the understanding that their way is neither the best way nor is it the only way. I pay for my use of SL but I do not base my comments upon that. Secondlife is an international operation even if Linden Research or whoever it it that apparently now owns Linden Lab is not. Unless and until companies such as these realise that they are part of the World at large we in the old world will continue to harass them to behave in a responsible manner. By the way the icon you have chosen to represent yourself is offensive.
  12. Sorry, that attitude simply does not apply to services that operate in multiple countries and judiciaries. SecondLife is a 24/7 international operation and it has responsibilities to its users and customers.
  13. @Kylie Jaxxon *coughs* *uplift* *cloud*
  14. I think THAT is the crux of last night's (for me) issue. Looking at the Grid Status Page entry for the "Thanksgiving Bakefail" issue it is patently obvious that only a skeleton crew are working over this weekend, and while I appreciate that Thanksgiving is a traditional holiday for the USA and some other countries on this date, Linden Lab really have to get their heads around the fact that SecondLife, while it may be based on US servers, is an international phenomenon, and simply absenting themselves from oversight of their system at this time is not appropriate.
  15. Well FWIW I logged in successfully at another destination just now so I am not sure what's up...something is though!
  16. Just spent 15 mins trying to reach SL with no success, anyone else having this issue?
  17. @Prokofy NevaI just read through the Secondlife Wiki article on choosing a computer that you posted. It is hilariously out of date but the basic philosophy is sound. And while it may not be "official" it is a near as makes no difference. It still bothers me that Linden Lab condones such articles which are at least 5 years out of date. It makes absolutely no difference to what has been said above.
  18. There are none so blind as those who WILL NOT see. I tried to be reasonable, I see I was wasting my breath.
  19. @Prokofy NevaNo one thinks you are stupid, Prok. No, we find your inability to react in a sane way to comments made by folk offering solutions to your issues irritating and frustrating. Some folk react themselves in a snide and intolerant way. That is a typical attitude found in online fora of all types. There is a much-used aphorism "don't feed the troll" . In this thread there must be enough nourishment for a year of trolling. It has been a dialogue of the deaf and for me it ends here. Until you learn to listen to constructive criticism and learn from others (some of whom really DO know what they are talking about), this thread is redundant and your issues will remain unaddressed.
  20. @Ardy LayA fine idea but I cannot for the life of me decide what exactly I'd call the bug! It's not as if it is that frequent really, just more frequent thna I am used to.
  21. Oh for crying out loud will someone PLEASE ban Prok from here again? I am so tired of hearing the same idiotic ranting time and time again.
  22. er that post suddenly appeared it was composed yesterday! I must have forgotten to submit it. SL has bitten me and my partner today, our region decided to return a load of our stuff for no good reason (we own it all) and as is the way of parcel auto return two old and irreplaceable items (No copy) were lost. @Ardy Laywell it wood, wouldn't it!
  23. @Gator PetermanI assume you have contacted SL support either by live chat or ticket? The teleport issue is certainly variable between accounts, I am seeing TP issues and my inventory is very well maintained and not at all flat, script levels are not high and complexity of my avatar fairly moderate, and my settings are fine. I have noticed a small increase in sim ping following the uplift but nothing dreadful, from about 145ms to 175ms. In competition that might well be a game-changer, though.
