  1. Well, your definition of utterly is not mine. As far as I am concerned if I cannot see moderator chat or be sure that all that is sent to a group is actually being seen by either the mods or other users, it is useless. That applies to all my groups without exception. Indeed some do appear to work better than others and it does not seem to be dependant on the number in each group, rather whether or not that particular group is having its resources sucked away by another more numerous group. In short if I cannot be sure of a group working, for me, that group is useless. While chat-lag and order scrambling did occasionally occur back in 2010, it was never remotely as bad as it is now.
  2. Whatever the issue, and whatever the history of group chat, the fact is that it USED to work...not well but at least partially. Now it is utterly useless and recent attempts by LL to reduce the server-load have proven less than useful. The current situation is a woeful indictment of LL's present lack of engineering and coding abilities. ETA: It cannot have escaped LL's attention that the recent issues wih group chat have apparently resulted in a +5% reduction in online numbers. This issue is hitting you in the wallet LL and the fees hike is not going to help. Fix your product, LL or the atrophy will become a torrent.
  3. Interesting. So the premise that one may well be offered a bigger pack but that does not guarantee that the pack even contains anything remains. That concept may not trouble the US mentality used to snake oil merchants and various interpretations of "freedom", but it does NOT translate well for the rest of us. What "New and exciting changes" do Linden Lab have for us this week? Go look at the "Featured News" blog. Increased fees for Linden Dollar purchases. so, when you go to buy Linden Dollars to pay your tier or rent each month Linden Lab will take a little more of your hard-earned. Oh, and don't bother to chat about it inworld, your group chat is almost certainly not working. Happy Days.
  4. For what this is worth I am sick and tired of this "Dialogue of the Deaf" between @CaithLynnSayesand @Solar Legion. It gets us precisely nowhere. LL know what needs doing. The real question is whether or not they have the means to do it.
  5. @Theresa Tennyson Nope! Admit it, you'd miss me! 😁
  6. Further to the above: thankyou LL support for getting my region rolled nearly one hour after the official end of today's roll, I suspect Woods was not alone in "slipping through the net" Your net needs to be repaired before more of your catch slips out. Sadly Woods does not seem to have benefitted from the script-run improvements I have seen elsewhere, goodness knows why not. The group chat failure was awkwardly timed to coincide with regions sometimes being offline for up to an hour. Several of the groups I belong to had to resort to notices updating members of offline clubhouses etc since group chat had failed. If SL had to pass the equivalent of a UK MoT test, it would fail.
  7. It is indeed so bad it is not even worth haranguing Lindens any more. The ones remaining really are not up to the job of renovating the partly broken SL systems that have become so obviously in need of work since thw uplift to AWS. I think Oz can count his lucky stars that he retired when he did. I suspect the road back to a fully functional SL will be a long and bumpy one.
  8. Well that went Sooo well, didn't it! Currently I am awaiting my region's return, the restart having been initiated 45 minutes after LL claimed the Roll was complete on the GSP. SNAFU.
  9. @Maestro Linden Well those "internal tweaks" seem to have done the trick with script run. I have been seeing % figures on RC channel regions running that code that I have not seen in three years! And it seems to be genuine, my scripted HUDs are responding faster than usual on those regions.
  10. I don't know if anyone has been seeing this, but as I have wandered into some RC channels regions in this past week I have seen that ALL are showing huge improvements in % script run. Several with next to no spare time and 15-18 ms script time are showing upwards of 90% script run, some less heavily loaded are in the 98% range. One heavily loaded region that struggled to exceed 20% is now comfortably above 50% and scripted attachment reponse is noticeably sharper. If there are no downsides (and there have been no comments on it that I have seen), the promotion of this sofware version (557694) will be eagerly awaited tomorrow on Main Server.
  11. @Coffee Pancake while I share many of your thoughts, I can't see support groups like Maitreya Friends dying any time soon unless some other way can be engineered to support such a popular yet complex product.
  12. It may be a misconception on my part and while I do see the point that such as @dayz Short make: so far as I know SL group IM was never intended to work like a chatroom, nor is it set up with similar resources. @Kyrah Abattoir makes an important point above.
  13. @Rowan Amore Yes that's very interesting and once I've read it a couple of times I hope I'll understand LOD better. Thanks. That said, I still don't think Cerridwen's Cauldron or any of Elicio Ember's stuff is badly made.
  14. Y'know I hear that a lot. In my experience, on Ultra graphics with my system (Ryzen 9 3900/Nvidia GTX1660Ti) LOD of 2 just does not work well. I use LOD of 3 or sometimes 3.25 to rez pesky badly made mesh or sculpties. I've always wondered in what way an LOD of 2 helps. I find it hard...no impossible to believe that most of my stuff and the places I vist (like Cerridwen's Cauldron) are badly made and LOD just does not do the place justice.
  15. @mistrestorm The short answer is Yes, it DOES matter due the nature of data transmission and reception. Also "whitelisting" of the viewer, its cache folder and your settings folders should be done as a priority. see: https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/antivirus_whitelisting?s[]=fs&s[]=whitelist There are many aspects of the unoptimized content in SL that cause lower fps than would be seen in most pre-optimised games.
  16. @Henri Beauchamp At least part of your requirement is precisely what LL are doing.
  17. @Caroline TakedaI know nothing that will help you but you should try talking to a number of In-world building and scripting groups. You are far more likely to get answers there. Builders' Brewery would be a starting point, I believe.
  18. No Wulfie this is something in addition to the "Interest List" changes. It is a different selection of in view textures...now the viewer does not load anything not in the immediate view. Previously all textures in the view "sphere" of the viewer were loaded and cached. I don't know the fine detail but I do know these changes were made (I believe) when the "Love Me Render" code was introduced quite recently, first to the LL viewer and then to the TPVs. So far as I can recall, Interest List operation involved the rendering or "potential rendering" of both objects and textures not simply the textures, and from what I recall it never "quite" worked as intended.
  19. Yes, there HAVE been updates to the camera/texture-rendering code. As I understand things the viewer no longer loads textures of items/avatars no longer in view. They then have to be downloaded when they move into vision. It gather that this eases the general render-load on the viewer, though it looks odd to us at first glance. The Dynamic texture memory settings available in FS now should significantly increase performance on systems that have GPUs with more than 4GB of VRAM. The slider is user set and can be used to optimize viewer performance. The former change is, I believe, thanks to the Linden developers, the latter one is a Firestorm -specific addition. There are those that know far more about these changes than I but that is how I understand things.
  20. @Maestro Linden as I thought. Woods of Heaven is at 14 days and rising but is running quite sweetly at present (famous last words?).
  21. @Solar LegionIt was a gentle joke at your and Caithlynn's bantering. No offence was meant so do not take any. Your are not the only one to find CaithLynn's remarks "offputting"!! As to group chat, it was so bad at stages tonight that I am sure someone was down in the belly of the beast "Banging on things". At one point I was moved to raise a ticket on the matter on Firestorm Support English's behalf, since only myself and one moderator could make the damn thing work, and intermittently at that.
  22. Well, @Maestro Linden, it rather looks as though this work made absolutely zero difference. Try again? You may have reduced the data load on the chatservers but it did not achieve at least one of the other objectives. Group chats are still broken.
  23. /me crosses fingers...... Also I note no mention of restarts for regions running for over 10 days.....omission or a change of policy?
  24. Sadly, I am not seeing any noticeable improvement in group chat function either.
  25. How on earth I managed to miss this is utterly baffling me, I am amazed (though obviously happy that Oz will no doubt be getting out a LOT more than I obviously do!).
