  1. And THAT is exactly what Linden Research's new owners do NOT want. No Map - no (or fewer) users...no profit...shortly after, no SL. This is beginning to look like the Lindens hell-bent on comitting suicide....again.
  2. Rolling Restarts for Second Life RC BlueSteel ChannelFeb 25, 08:00-16:00 PST We will be performing rolling restarts for regions on the Second Life RC BlueSteel channel on Thursday, February 25th, beginning at approximately 8:00 AM PDT. Please refrain from rezzing no copy objects and remember to save all builds. Please check this blog for updates. Posted on Feb 24, 14:03 PST OK, now I thought that LL had abandoned these names for the various RC channels. Now suddenly we have Bluesteel again after Apples and Oranges were abandoned. Am I being obtuse to ask what the Hades is going on?
  3. I was meaning that those of us that fancy ourselves SL sailors need a functional World Map in order to navigate in places other than the wide open part of Blake Sea. I am sure that map tiles the render for some that have not cleared cache or renewed their viewer lately (which I have) but as you say they are now way out of date. That we have not had anything resembling a functional map now for a couple of months is nothing short of disgraceful. It might well be hard to code but if anyone WAS doing it, I am sure we'd have something useable by now. I had assumed your paragraph about Mainland and Linden Homes users was the intial sarcasm!
  4. Bumpetty bump. You know it makes sense!
  5. Do I detect sarcasam here, Qie? I must assume so 'cos it's a LONG way from being correct!
  6. @Fredz FaulkesThis might be totally ignorant but is it possible that your computer's firewall is partially blocking some component of the viewer during the download of the update? The symptoms remind of early days of my SL when my PC's firewall was messing with elements of the viewer instal package, resulting in a "white-screen" . I don't recall the solution, but the cause might be related.
  7. I'm posting this here in the hope that someone more knowledgeable than I can explain just what has gone wrong with Sailing in SL. Tonight my partner and I rezzed our not too old Bandit 60 at Nantucket Sailing Club and headed out into Blake. We had only crossed 3 regions when two things became apparent: 1) the yacht was slow to react to commands 2) region crossings were initially much better than they were. Then just after our third region crossing the boat simply stopped and became unresponsive. After 30 seconds it jerked into life and resumed its course, but we realised it was not responding to commands either in chat or via a touch menu. At the next crossing I was unsat from my cockpit position and my avatar now was sat on (perhaps) the craft's root prim somewhere in the belly of it. My partner, who was "driving" deliberately unsat, but the boat continued and eventually I unsat and TP'd home. I must assume the boat continued until SL killed it at the next region border. The map was utterly useless since land on neighbouring regions either never appeared or did so intermittently. So, I ask in all innocence and ignorance; what on Earth is happening? I also noticed that the Nantucket Yacht Club region traffic was a fraction of its normal value, so perhaps I should have realised that there was a problem, compounded by the fact that I could see very few other avatars on the water. All the regions we entered appeared to be running 555570.
  8. @Solar Legion Indeed what you say makes perfect sense, my information was way out of date and I made no claim to know the whole story, which you explain so that even a dope like me can follow it!
  9. Oh. Fair enough, Solar, but I was told by a Linden years ago that Aditi WAS used for that purpose by LL QA. Thinking back of course RC Snack was used for QA testing on occasions so you are probably correct.
  10. So from the above info it would appear that even the Linden QA operation cannot use Aditi for server software trials.
  11. 😁At least it has folk talking and I can handle the brickbats.
  12. @Adamburp Adamczyk The in-world groups and meetings are (in my experience) of extremely limited value and it has seemed to me that some Lindens exhibit selective deafness when it comes to some topics. For me they are of little informational value due to my SL and RL lifestyle ( OK my loss). My point is that communication with the SL user-base is just inadequate. To say that security concerns define what should be divulged begs the question. I agree that when it does happen, communication is of a very high order...unfortunately it is very rare and really needs to improve. I value my SL very highly, so I will persevere, but I will also probably be condemned as a "malcontent". Such is life. Ok, it's a rant but it's my view for good or ill.
  13. So, we begin a new week. There was nothing rolled to the RC channels last week, so we should not expect anything on Main Server this week, obviously. What we are still being starved of is information on what is being done "behind the scenes" on " back-end" services. It has become a tradition within SL that such information is not disclosed to users. It is a tradition that must end. Personally, I am sick and tired of being treated like a mushroom. I am NOT an idiot and I can cope with erratic services providing there is some explanation. This information vacuum is typical but this time it is unreasonable. Are we to believe that Linden Research's new owners have so hamstrung LL that they DARE not tell us what (or how little) is actually being done? Currently SL is seeing the highest concurrency numbers for years. That will not last long unless we see some sort of route- map for the significant work that is still needed to get SL working properly again.
  14. @StarFoxFan11 It sounds as if your firewall or Antivirus is blocking the output. There are two things you can try. 1) List the viewer in your PCs Firewall to "allow" outgoing and incoming communication 2) Whitelist the viewer and all executable files within it, particularly SLVoice.exe in your andtivirus. https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/antivirus_whitelisting This applies to all SL viewers not just Firestorm.
  15. @Rowan AmoreI can only assume you refer to what I posted towards the top of this thread. When the Bake Service Maintenance was first posted on the GSP yesterday, it was slated for Thursday 11th. ie today. Sensibly, it was altered quite quickly to the following Thursday. In light of today's Premium Benefits farago, it is just as well they did that. I was not the only Premium account that found my status became "unknown" after the work had been done, indeed I did not register as online to any of my friends...fortunately it was sorted out relatively quickly and is now back as it should be. I hope the others affected are also restored.
  16. Just a "Heads Up" on this Maintenance debacle. The Login Servers have been having fits this UK evening as, I suspect, some glitch with the internal search function, since even after getting in via a safe hub both my partner and I did not show as online to one another until just before 8pm GMT. "Location not available" despite the region being up as normal is probably as a result of the login servers not knowing where my "last location" actually WAS, due to whatever was being done to search. Add to that that my Premium Account status has evaporated after today's Premium Services maintenance, you'll forgive me if I am a little "ticked off" with LL! I will, however, give a shout out to TJ Linden, who as ever was VERY helpful at LL support! The Lindens are, it seems, under the cosh by their new masters, but they still try to be helpful!
  17. The Bake Service maintenance WAs due todayt but has been bumped back by a week. The others are being/have been carried out with the usual aplomb.
  18. @Jackson Redstar I sincerely hope that's a 1080! Did Nvidia ever make a 180? A friend of mine had a 260 aeons ago. Oh and from what I've gleaned, 30 series RTX cards are so over the top for SL they refuse to get out of bed for it! 😁
  19. @Cyrene Price One maxim I have followed for years is that if I edit a worn item, I take it off and put it on again. If you crash or get some disconnect, any changes to an item are not saved and when you relog the item will have reverted to the state it was it the last time it was attached. That is how it works and while that won't prevent TP crashes happening (for whichever of the myriad reasons that can cause them) it WILL reduce the frustration of losing editing or modding work. Attaching and reattaching the item means that its state is saved on the servers.
  20. Just a "heads up" on this. LL are apparently "doing some work on groups". The current upshot is that group profiles are VERY slow to load and member lists and past notices are slow to never loading. This was checked on both Firestorm AND on the default SL viewer. Support are saying it IS at their end so we must wait it out. There is presently nothing on the Grid Status Page. ETA: Like most of the issues with Groups, some are badly impacted by this issue and some other barely at all!
  21. @OdaksYes. I know it was Main Server...the point I was making (badly, it would seem) is that there WERE Main Server rolls, the GSP announced that, just not WHAT was being rolled, and there was nothing on this forum.
  22. So...This week it's the server version rolled to the RCs being rolled to Main Server regions? That is a logical assumption but no more than an "educated guess" . Was it too much trouble to make an announcement on this forum? For heaven's sake LL, this is the place for it! The post on the GSP told us that something was being done on Main Server but not WHAT. Why are you doing this?
  23. Bump. This is STILL not functional and we are being starved of information regarding progress (if any). We need SOME news and progress to be made on this. This weekend saw the highest numbers online for years. Give the newbies and returnees something to stay for...PLEASE!
  24. @RowanMinx Indeed but as I have found (to my cost, for a while) it is easy to miss out stages and it seems to have been the case here. All's well now, so it was worth a reprise, evidently.
