  1. Let's pretend that aliens happen to come across Second Life (perhaps through radio signals or something) when researching Earth. They were able to discover it before knowing anything else about the planet and any life that exists there. What conclusions can they make about Earth and its inhabitants based on what they see in there? I think it's safe to assume that they would think that all creatures on Earth are capable of flying without some sort of wings or flight mechanisms. They would probably also assume the various "furry" species are real.
  2. @cirleen, @Istelathis, you may have hit the nail on the head. It could be I feel vulnerable (or susceptible) because when I'm a woman avi I'm curious as to what people may say about my avatar. It could be because of the act of presenting a different side myself. I think your analyses make sense!
  3. Yeah you guys may be right, I guess I could be projecting my real life thoughts/cultural attitudes about women in Second Life. @Stephanie Misfit might also have a good point as well about how some men treat women.
  4. Okay fine, I understand this may be another controversial topic, but bear with me, the thought came to my head. I'm a man in real life but I still enjoy using woman avatars. But for some reason, when I'm a woman in a place with other avatars, I have more of this feeling of "vulnerability" than when I'm using a man or non-human avi. I guess you can attribute it to a higher chance of getting hit on by men (but I still enjoy their compliments if done in a nice way.) I was wonder what you guys think of this.
  5. I just decided to take a break from the forums, is all. Thanks for noticing my absence though! These are all fun ideas, everyone!
  6. Wow that's cool! I actually didn't know that tidbit about double pendulums!
  7. What are some fun things to do or stuff that you've seen done with the Physics engine in Second Life? (I don't just mean breast physics of course!)
  8. Thank you Mr. AnonyMoose, Merry Moosemas, and Happy Holidays!
  9. Well, everyone who answered you gave a basic idea of my intent: I just wanted to know people's opinions and have a discussion. @Maitimogave a good analysis as to why I post these questions (although I'm not sure if I'm really on the spectrum because my therapist said I'm not. However, I believe I have OCD so I do focus on one topic in particular.) I apologize for not replying since then, I don't really have anything to add after people post their opinions. I'll try to reply more if there's an opinion I find interesting.
  10. I'm 36, almost 37 in real life (although Gopi the alien supposed to be twice my age - thus he is 73 almost 74.)
  11. I'd say most adult human avis in Second Life look like they are in their early 20s....most of my human avis are supposed to be in their 20s in their backstories. I do have some older humans though.
  12. To answer your question, you got it right as to what I wanted to ask. But knowing you guys, I know the discussion would kinda branch off so the related questions you pose are also good (perhaps even better) to ask as well.
  13. Its use is so widespread, you can consider it the fabled "Metaverse" that everyone in this universe is talking about these days. What do you think the world would be like with Second Life as the Metaverse in widespread use?
  14. I'd like to say thanks for your help. Yes, I'm looking for a good soda jerker hat, as @Love Zhaoyingsaid. I found one in the MP but it was a gacha and maybe it's a bit too...colorful for one? I'll post a pic of my hot dog vendor avatar if I can. He's wearing the aforementioned "Soda Jerker" hat.
  15. Hello, I'm just looking for apparel suggestions for a male hot dog or fast food vendor (like the ones you see operating food stands at big cities like Chicago or New York.) Thanks. I'll make sure entertain any responses to this topic as much as I can!
  16. Dang, didn't know that. Although when I was at the Maitreya Isle region yesterday, there was also an annoying person in front of the Lara kiosk...granted, they weren't doing anything that bad, but still.
  17. Hi, I don't know where to put this, but anyone else seeing that the LeLutka region is down? I tried TPing there but it gave me a "region doesn't exist or is temporarily unavailable" error. Edit: Lelutka is back up as of this edit.
  18. I actually do, but not as my Gopi character (who is primarily a grey alien but as a few human outfits as well.) My primary characters I use the most is are women.
  19. I guess I'll use this topic to describe why I have so many accounts (or as I call them, "characters") in Second Life. (I'm almost ashamed or afraid of disclosing the number I have, for various reasons.) Yes, it's another self-centered topic by me, and you're free to give me any "negative" reactions and all, but again I'm not trolling or trying to. 1. I like to think of my characters as a bunch of friends (or more accurately, different factions of allies/friends) traveling around having adventures in the Second Life World. They come from different universes but have converged on the Second LIfe world for certain reasons (this will be described below.) Some of my characters' profiles and the titles of their groups reflect that. Although I do roleplay as some of them more than others, I still think each is a reflection of some aspect of my personality. I've grown kinda sentimental over my characters, they're kinda like family and I make sure never to abandon any one of them. 2. This is a bit of self-promotion, but all my characters are connected by an overarching backstory know as "John's Will." (You can try to guess why I use the name "John".) Basically, the backstory of John's Will is that it is a phenomenon that causes weird effects like electromagnetic radiation, light and heat emanation, spacetime distortions, and most importantly of all... "mind alteration". All characters I have created are influenced by John's Will. A few characters I have created recently (or will create) are a group of scientists trying to investigate the nature of John's Will, and whether it is good or bad. Now I know there's a bit of roleplay behind this, but I will have the scientist characters act mostly either silent or normal (albeit, somewhat intellectual or try to) unless you specifically ask them about John's Will (since it will be mentioned in their profiles.) I act "normal" on most of my characters anyway. I guess, to make this a discussion, I have a question for you: do any of you do similar things to what I do?
  20. Well yeah, but now that you mention it I'll just simply report my own topic if the other participants (save for one) in it desire for it to be closed. I need a good consensus here.
  21. Should I have the mods close the topic? I see that it is getting out of hand.
  22. Same here, and also in the Firestorm viewer for me. And now I can't log into my account protected by 2FA for some reason. Edit: Was able to log in after the 2FA attempts were reset.
  23. Another reflection topic by yours truly. Maybe a bit unorganized and have the wrong word choice, but I hope you get the point. Again, I hope this post isn't perceived as spamming or trolling. To mods: I know I've been making a lot of topics about similar subjects recently. If you wish to close one of them to avoid clutter, please close the "IM bait" one. I guess there's two sides of me that you guys may be familiar with, if you've interacted with me on these forums (and perhaps in Second Life itself): One is the good side that's honest, empathetic, compassionate, and sensitive to many others. Some of you remarked that I exhibit those qualities, and while I don't doubt that, I must admit on the flip-side of the coin I also have a bad side. I could be a bit of a petty troll, especially if I'm provoked by a perceived slight. I'm willing to admit that, though, and I will say that for some of my trolling "victims", I'm not sorry. (But that may change with time.) It's my bad side that drew me to find social areas where people could troll and mess around. You can say I was inspired by the various trolling Youtube videos that I've seen. I admit laughing at those videos and figured that I, too, could replicate the antics that they did. I've gotten into a little bit of trouble (thankfully, not too much.) I've been reading these forums for a while though, ever since I joined SL for good in 2017. I read words of people who are way more intelligent, articulate, honest and compassionate than I am, and honestly I'm impressed. I made a topic recently about how SL improved your real-life, and I'd say a big deal of knowledge for both cases came from these forums. For the wise and kind ones, I can't thank you enough. There's one aspect that I didn't listen to you guys on though, and that's on the topic of social hubs and welcome areas. I figured that the trolling, fighting, and other antics present there (both given and taken) wouldn't affect me enough, but perhaps it really did. I guess you can say the hubs cultivated my bad side a bit too much. It made me less empathetic and compassionate than I'd like to be. And the slights I encountered ( yes, the unsolicited IMs and general douchiness for example) only fueled the fire. A bit more recent reading in this forum made me question my actions. As a result, I think that maybe you guys are right...maybe these so-called "hub" and "welcome areas" aren't worth hanging out in anymore. If I want to enjoy Second Life in a wholesome manner and find decent conversation while living as my various avatars, I'd have to look elsewhere. One where I avoid anything that could trigger or provoke me, but at the same time, have a satisfying experience. Speaking of the word "wholesome"...maybe that's what I really should focus on: a more wholesome experience. One that isn't at the expense of others. Maybe if I focus on this, Second Life would be an even better experience (not that it isn't already.)
