  1. I'm thinking of using Johnny Rotten (of The Sex Pistols) in his prime as a possible influence. I know my punk dude will have a mohawk and a black vest of some sort. What other necessities does the punk aesthetic have?
  2. Whatever would be considered an "average guy" in real life, I guess? None of this bodybuilder or underwear model stuff.
  3. Could be cognitive dissonance, I dunno. I personally get the friendliest people compliment my avi when I'm a non-human avi such as a grey alien, chicken, fish, and so on....
  4. Yeah, I guess there's probably nothing I can do given the lack of information on what's going on. Thanks for the input.
  5. ...is it your responsibility to report that person to the authorities? Should Linden Lab be notified? Apologies if this is a stupid question or if this causes controversy. For context, here is the situation: I heard an SL user scream on voice (in such a way that he was in the background), possibly towards his neighbor. He mentioned something about getting out his gun amid shouting obscenities. Now, I felt compelled to do something about it since I know he lives in the same big city I live in - but I do not know any further specifics about his location such as his neighborhood or exact address. I was contemplating calling 911, but again I have no idea where to direct the responders to. I was also thinking about contacting LL and reporting him. Now, I do not know this person very well, but me and others who witnessed this have speculated he may just be trolling, but still you never know. We have tried to calm him down, but he wouldn't listen and would just ignore us. I just want to be on the safe side and not be responsible for something that could have been prevented.
  6. Nope, I don't eat while I'm on the computer. If anything, I do have a habit of talking fast. Also, thanks to everyone who responded since I last posted!
  7. Ah, I see what you mean. Maybe I'm putting too much stock into what other people think of me. I don't think different is bad as long as it doesn't harm other people, I guess.
  8. Hmm...you may be right, especially your last line. That could be why the person felt awkward (if that was what she was feeling.) I'd say everyone in this topic so far made a good point, too.
  9. I suppose, but I was in a "fun" region. Avis of all kinds congregate there. But maybe you're right.
  10. I've noticed that this happens sometimes when I voice (which is not often, anyway) but I don't know if it also applies to my typed messages as well. People would say my voice sounds weird for some reason whenever I do voice. Just today, I apparently scared off a person while I was on voice. I was taking with three people and I said a stupid joke/comment about "cutting me up, cooking, and then eating me" because I was currently wearing a potato avatar. I don't know if it was because of the joke (okay I admit it was lame) or because of my voice, but one of the people left and then there was a brief silence after I made the comment. The other two also teleported away (perhaps to their friend who left earlier) soon after.
  11. This is a parody topic of "Is love real in a virtual game?", but I guess what I also mean is that there are places in Second Life that are known for people bickering. (I admit I frequent one such place.) I'm sorry...I was on a parody "roll" from another website. Thanks, you're totally right.
  12. Go to certain places in Second Life, and I'm sure you'll get the answer to that question. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)
  13. The whole avatar customization aspect, the focus on socialization, and the ability to explore a virtual world.

  15. I guess I just mean perceive as friendly and harmless. I may have worded my OP wrong.
  16. The "attractive" human avi or the "ugly" monster avi? Just curious. (No, it's not for a graduate thesis, don't worry.) I myself, would trust the monster avi more than a male human avi at least (although I would feel no difference in trust between the monster and a female human). I guess because male humans often send unwanted IMs to my female human avis and they just seem more...douchey in general. In my experience playing as monsters such as aliens, dragons and fishmen, I have gotten more attention as such avis than when I was a male human, which seems consistent to what I feel. My female human avis get a little more attention than my males but still fall short compared to the monsters. I guess the usual tropes are inverse in Second Life.
  17. Thank you for the replies, but I think the purpose of this topic was to ask what the name of the clothes these stereotypical zoo keepers wear. @Silent Mistwalker said the khaki pants, so that's one half of the equation, but I'm wondering what the shirt is called so I can look for it in the marketplace?
