  1. Raven Bell. You can find it in the Marketplace by searching "Rapunzel Hair" or "Floor Length Hair".
  2. This is one of my several woman accounts. Yes I know, she probably needs work. I have given her a pair of heels and changed her dress since the taking of this picture.
  3. This wikipedia article (yes, I know) provides an explanation. In short, it's a rendering technique that improves graphics I guess. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_tracing_(graphics)
  4. This may be a stupid question, but can Second Life support raytracing? Just wondering. The reason why I ask is because I'm getting a new graphics card (RTX 4070, which is capable of raytracing). Even if RT is not possible in SL, I want to see how the graphics card improves the graphics in SL over my current GTX 1660 Super.
  5. I just wanted to say that I have not abandoned this topic yet, and although your viewpoints on "creepiness" are diverse, I'd like to thank you all for your input. I've read mostly everything and while some of your views may resonate with me more than others, I still value everyone's views on the subject.
  6. ...but now that I think about it, I've also been creepy in the past (particularly in real life). If you know me in the forum, sometimes I complain about receiving a lot of IMs from strangers when I'm playing as a woman avatar. I've called the men who IMed me "creeps" even for something as basic as a "hi" and "hru". But I think I've done a similar thing in real life. Back when I was in college I cold-called these women on the phone I didn't really know, just to get to know them. Needless to say, they either didn't answer or were peeved at the call. I also complimented a woman in a job fair about her beauty, and that didn't go well either. I probably did other creepy stuff that I can't remember or realize at the time. But now I think I know better than to do those things. I particularly realized the error of my ways when going online and exploring places like Second Life - y'know, experiencing life as a woman avatar and all that. But even more recently I just realized I was one of those SL people I called "creeps", too. Lonely, single, loveless, or whatever. What is the point of this post? I dunno. I just wanted to reflect on my "hypocrisy" of calling people "creeps" i guess. Or maybe illustrate how Second Life (and other virtual worlds) made me realize the errors of my ways and beliefs. Or something else.
  7. Thanks for the input as always! Before I came to Second Life I was in the 2D toon-style MMO MapleStory where I also had both male and female avis. Yeah, I also encountered quite a different of treatment between the two genders of characters.
  8. Well, I guess the driving force behind wanting people to think my women are actually women is just my curiosity about how women are treated differently (in SL at least) compared to men and non-humans. Or something else. I dunno. I can't really provide a concrete answer to that. @Rowan Amore That's a very good tip about changing the look every now and then, and if I really wanted to pass as a woman I should follow that, but admittedly I'm kinda lazy on that part - and maybe I don't want to be too convincing. I want people to decide for themselves if my accounts are women with the current amount of effort I put into them, without giving it away. Regardless, I will take your advice into consideration.
  9. Gopi is almost always a grey alien (although he does have both male and female human forms). I made this topic in reference to my accounts/characters who are always women. But yeah, a lot of info to take in....
  10. You raise very good points that ethics is not meant to be taken just from everyone I meet. I guess, to partially answer that, "ethical" is probably the wrong word for what I'm asking. Maybe what I'm really asking is for a consensus for "acceptable" behavior? (Although I suppose that would be a bad thing to look for as well.) As for the rest of the posts on this topic, I read everything and I see good points for and against having to put my RL gender in my women's profiles. Thank you all for the input. But I think I'm more convinced that I should leave that piece of information off them, although probably I'm biased.
  11. @Rowan Amore, @Gabriele Graves, and @Henry Blackwood....you all make excellent points. Thank you all for your input and I totally agree!
  12. Thanks for the input! I generally try (keyword: try) not to mix RL with SL (or any other virtual world) and only want to share only general details about my real life in-world.
  13. Hello all, I am a mostly straight man in real life who has avatars/accounts of different kinds (male and female, human and non-human, etc.) I do have woman avatars but I do not put my real life gender on them because I actually want other residents to think they are really women - even if I do not intend on pursuing relationships in virtual worlds. But after reading this forum, I'm beginning to think this may not be ethical. I'm curious if you think I should put my real-life gender on my woman avatars' profiles in order to deal with other residents in an ethical manner, or if it's okay to keep it hidden.
  14. This topic is inspired by the idea that says that humans who view nature often are more calmer and happier than those who don't. My question is simple: do you think seeing "nature" in Second Life (or other virtual worlds) has the same effect as seeing nature in real life? I personally can't say for certain. I do enjoy seeing nature both in real life and in a virtual space, and while real life has its advantages (there are things you can smell, taste, and touch as opposed to just sight and sound), so too does virtual nature (you don't have to leave home and less likely to encounter danger or whatever.)
  15. Just wondering what your best picks are for SL places that simulate rainforests and coral reefs, which are two of the most biodiverse and lively biomes on Earth.
  16. I definitely won't be touching any of those crimes with my character's backstory! I also want him to be sympathetic in some way.
  17. Thanks for the input guys, I guess it would be safe to do something like this.
  18. I was just wondering what would happen if I made a new account and added a criminal backstory to his profile - would I get in trouble with the Lab or the law? I'll paraphrase the backstory: This character is a blue-collar worker who was a compulsive gambler and blew all his money at the casino. To try to pay off his debts he tries to rob the casino but gets caught by the police and arrested. (I don't know if I should add that he happens to kill someone in the process or not - may make him too unsympathetic.) He does his time in prison and by the time he is paroled his is a reformed man. So basically an ex-convict story.
  19. Thanks everyone. I did do the direct search for "frog" in the marketplace, and while there were cool avis, there wasn't any that matched the particular avi I saw in that safe hub. I'll check the one that Ayashe talked about, though!
  20. Hello all, I'm wondering where I can find this particular skinny, light green frog avatar. It was a little taller than a regular human avatar. I saw several people wear it a long time ago in a safe hub, however, I was unable to find it at the marketplace. I was also unable to find it in the inventory library. I forgot to take pictures of it, sorry. Anyway, thanks in advance for your help.
