  1. I missed the talk on mesh being evil, that sounds like a fun discusion. I do agree that smart choices with textures and build detail can go a long way toward making sure that things run smoothly.
  2. me me me me! I am totally famous. You also might want to look at popular bloggers, people who develop 3rd party viewers etc. Maybe look at the my.second life feed and see who is there. I think you will find that the people I think of as famous will be quite different from others.
  3. Look at the fashion industry in SL. It's huge. The top stores are selling 1000's of items a week and during events and product launches 1000s a day.
  4. You only need to be a premium member to get land directly from Linden Lab on the mainland. You can rent directly from estate owners, which are people that have purchased land from Linden Labs directly. The prices for rentals vary greatly but are typically in the range of 1.3 up to 2 Linden dollars per prim that you rent. You can also become an estate manager / owner by buying your own region from Linden Lab. There is a start-up fee for this of between 100 + $600 us and the monthly fee of $295 us for a full region and $12 5 for homestead region.
  5. Sounds like you are on the avatar complexity build. You can increase the threshold at which the jelly babies are rendered. The setting doenst reduce impact on the server rather it reduces impact on the viewer and your computer. If you don't want many jelly babies be prepared to set the value pretty high.
  6. Short answer is of course. Longer answer is that it depends on who you rent your land from, check the covenant. Also keep in mind that a lot of people do this, and many stores no longer open additional locations. Ask yourself how you will entice stores to come and rent from you. Most things land related are a labor of love initially so expect it to take some time to fill up. But it is all certainly possible.
  7. My suggestion is to copy the URL you have set on your land and find a friend to let you try the exact URl on theirs. It could just be an issue with the stream.
  8. sadly a lot of those huge boxes of hair that float around between new people are filled with cobybotted (stolen) hair from fairly popular shops. Of course those boxes are mainly not mesh hair and pretty much all 7+ years old at this point, but still. Sad that a) they were ever out there and b) that people actually sell them.
  9. I would look at Magika for hair. Skins I think Glam Affair, Deetalez, Lumae. I am sure I can come up with others, feel free to msg me in world. I love to chat about stuff like this.
  10. Use the alt key and your mouse or control and alt and the arrow keys on your keyboard. Close the camera floater, there are easier ways to move your camera.
  11. Which hover are you looking at? The hover offset in your shape or the hover height option you get when you right click your avaatr? The first should be 50 the second should be 0
  12. Go to your web profile and look at the permissions tab. Perhaps you have set your profile so that people cannot see it.
  13. First...I see very few homesteads divided down to 1/16ths. Even if they start that way people end up wanting extra prims. There is a huge difference on the number of prims on a homestead vs a full region. Second, in all my years running an estate I never, ever saw every resident on at the same time. There are just way to many places and times in the world to get that much concurrency in one region. If it did happen though, as others have said, then yes you could be blocked from your home. If you are concerned, why not grab the same sized parcel on a full region? Price per prim is usually cheaper, get more prims for the same sized parcel and full regions can hold lots more people.
  14. Physics will work with both. In my experience it works the same with either. Just grab a free physics layer or create one quick and try it out.
  15. Well the best advice i have for how to approach it is to be calm and polite with the actual land owner and see if there is anything they are willing to do to help. Make sure you know the preferred way to pay going forward. Land is not always easy to deal with in SL to be sure.
  16. I am just guessing here, but SL uses a CDN to download textures. If your VPN somehoenblocks traffic coming from the CDN you will have issues. You might also be having issues routing traffic from the VPN to the avatar baking servers. I can't use SL on my work network for example because the routing for avatar baking doesn't work with the way our network is setup. It sounds like you have a lot of layers of protection in place, and with each layer comes an equal layer of complexity.
  17. Here is an alternate possibility. How wel organized is your inventory? Do you have any single folders with many, many hundreds of items in them? There have been reports of crashes when the viewer tries to load folders containing a lot of items in once place.we are generally talking 1000+ items but it depends. It might be worth while submitting a ticket, because I know support has a tool that can help if that is indeed the cause.
  18. Out of curiosity, what are you offering? Taking a 60% cut on sales seems kinda high when the majority of the work is in the design and creation of the actual mesh.
  19. LL does not post here. The rules for all avatars are on the terms or service. You should start with that, though it really doesn't define what a child avatar looks like.
  20. Have you tried right clicking the items in your viewer managed market and selecting Create Listing? Viewer Managed Marketplace is different from Merchant Outbox. If you are still trying to use Merchant Outbox you will move forward to VMM.
  21. Having 100000 items isn't a problem necessarily, but having a very flat structure is. If you have folders with lots of items in them without subfolders it can be a problem. That said, what I would do is grab the most recent release of the Linden Lab viewer and login to a nice low lag region. I hear Hippo Hollow recommended. Stay there until your inventory loads. If you do have an inventory structure issue where you don't have enough subfolders it can hang loading inventory and never finish. In that case you need to contact support and they can run a script on your inventory that will divide things into folders.
  22. A great resource to keep up with what is new is to go to YouTube and search for 'third party developer second life'. You will find videos of all of the thrid party developer meetings. The meetings are hosted by Oz Linden who is the man in charge of the development of much of what happens in SL. At least on the viewer side of things. Great way to get insight on what is coming.
  23. I would say yes, Second Life is often about merging the possible with the impossible. However, if you are asking if people would pay for such things then my answer would be very dependent on the product offered. Possibly though.
  24. Catznip has an active beta and should see an uptodate release next week. I have no idea on Exodus. I highly recommend Catznip, but do keep in mind that most viewers these days are built on the same code base. I do find Catznip to be lighter than FS, but I would not say dramatically so.
