  1. You posted this at 10:23 AM Pacific Daylight Time. I never can keep timezones in my head either to I cheat and look at Time Zone Map (timeanddate.com)
  2. Near a river in the Pacific Northwest, but that's not important right now.
  3. I was trying to help somebody troubleshoot their viewer performance when I noticed they were getting textures via UDP. I thought that was disabled some time ago.
  4. Everybody has to get off the clouds before they can be washed.
  5. I suspect the Insider Previews are not a good measure of what hardware will be approved by the Windows 11 installer. But guess what? The Windows 10 installer will install Windows 11 if you replace the filesystem image file. That also might not work in the future. I don't feel like worrying about it though. Windows 10 will be around for a few years yet.
  6. Moe, you know the difference between "supported" and what you are doing and saying. MS not including your CPU on the supported CPU list just means they do not currently promise you it will work and if it breaks they might not help
  7. Although the speculation is fun we might assume LL is still running the simulator hosts on Debian GNU Linux until they tell us otherwise. But that's old information. Maybe I was told otherwise and forgot? Used to be able to build and run a simulator host on Windows to be able to use Visual Debugger. Dunno if that's still possible.
  8. Does this thread need an "I keep pressing ESCAPE but I am still here!" I remember people getting trapped on the cityscape tutorial island in 2008. They were refusing to go through the obligatory tutorial that included running over a "cyberrat" with one of the avalable vehicles. There were instructions showing on screen there too. It was actually a pretty decent tutorial for me. I didn't play many games at all and the few I did play were each pretty much 100% different from the others so I EXPECTED Second Life controls to be unique. One really interesting point about that cityscape tutorial region was all of the textures used there were packaged with the viewer! I didn't learn that SL was gonna suck on dial-up Internet access until AFTER I completed the tutorial and was teleported to Ahern. At Ahern I was introduced to at least 5 kinds of "this sucks".
  9. Could be one of the patrons wearing stuff, but I suspect the AtomicShrink would have detected that. We used to have regular visits from three people that wore screaming Mario media players on their person when they came to the club. Took us a while to notice as NOBODY in regular attendance nor in the staff is daft enough to run around with those "features" enabled. We got a complaint from, now get this, one of the people wearing the offending objects, that they kept hearing it in our club. Easy fix, we used a club of another kind on them. Gone. Bye.
  10. I have been told that the tiny Residents move the decimal point in their minds.
  11. Rez or construct a typical fancy dance floor that does NOT have the dancer scripts in it. Have the dancers either use their own animations, dance HUDs or a dance machine rezzed that is not the dance floor. This works best with a "full house". I had 44 on the floor, including myself. I used one of the old "color regions" for the test. I was watching simulator statistics and marveled at how much time was being used for physics. As a lark, I deleted the dance floor (in my case it was a non-scripted object that looked like a wooden stage with lots of wooden adornments. Construction was 43 prims. None were sculpted but many were "tortured". Only three 512x512 textures were used on this object, ripped wood grain, crosscut wood grain, and tree bark. Overall diameter was about 14 meters. When the group standing on the thing dropped about 1 meter to the ground, the simulator physics time dropped too. The drop in time used for physics was to about 1/3 of the time being used before I deleted the dance floor AND time dilation changed from 0.78 to 0.98. I should try to gather enough volunteers to reproduce this now SL is on AWS. It's hard. Took 3 weeks of planning and advertising it as a holiday dance party in the park with a well known club DJ providing music and games to get the turnout I needed. I let them have their party, and, the DJ and I worked my removing the wooden floor into the show by rezzing a cornfield around the dancers! (I thank the person that was known as Blue Linden for the corn. It was a hit.)
  12. I used Second Life Viewer to wear 38 rezzable objects, all on "right hand". I tried to "add" a 39th rezzable object but found the "add ..." options in menus were not active. Then I detached one from "right hand" and rezzed another on the ground and selected "Put on > Add" to wear it on right hand. I detached all attachments and put those 39 rezzable objects in a folder then selected "add to current outfit". After a couple of seconds, 38 of those 39 rezzable objects were attached to "right hand". If you use a different viewer and get different behavior when you try this then perhaps you could direct your inquires to users / developers of the specific viewer you are using. If you are also using Second Life Viewer and get different results than I described above then perhaps you could help us help you by telling us which version you are using. To save time, "The latest" is not a version number.
  13. Is it better when you don't expect it?
  14. Very helpful. Now will you be kind enough to tackle explaining why avatars standing on large objects uses more simulator time than either sitting on large objects or standing on the ground?
  15. Don't forget to include the order in which items arrive to be rendered. Be sure to add that into the entropy pool when comparing viewers.
  16. Yes, whether or not he intended to try to figure it out or not, he did indeed highlight, and make light of, several of the issues that come up when people try Second Life, and, indeed, when a person quite familiar with Second Life tries a new product in Second Life. I have seen many 10 year + residents attach or rez something they just bought and have a period of confusion and amusement at the unexpected ways in which some content is implimented. Some horses are vehicles, using scripted vehicle functions. Some horses are attachments. Some horses are objects that are scripted to take controls when sat upon, then move by the script alone without vehicle functions. I imagine some horses use pathfinding. I expect the same could be said about other products.
  17. Replace that needle with a big microphone
  18. Maybe open a case with Firestorm's support for questions or to report bugs? I know some of them come here to help users and shop for bugs to fix but they shouldn't have to. Maybe your wait will be shorter if you take it to them. Glad to hear the new Apple M1s are working at least as well or better than the cooling-challenged Intel notebooks their users have been struggling with for years. No more lap blisters! Good battery run-times. Way less energy consumption. I have been told they are quieter under load, too. Also glad to hear LL dispell the rumor that they would soon cease development of the Apple Mac version of Second Life Viewer. Dunno who started that one but they need to go play with thier favorite Linux distribution and stop tormenting Mac users. While I am babbling, I was disappointed when LL stopped in-house development on their Linux version of the Second Life Viewer. I was using Linux. Some friends were too. Now we are using Windows 10 and wondering what Windows 11 brings. Already know my computer will run it. @Whirly Fizzle Help please?
  19. That was probably it, Dan. I did it again and this time it certainly was that box unchecked. A few days ago I manually downloaded and installed 6.4.20.560520 - Viewer UI and launched. The updater immediately went to work DOWNGRADING to 6.4.19.560171 - LMR 5, I think it was. Thanks for the tip!
  20. My point is this: This search method was quite useful in years past. It is very useless now, and I wonder if this uselessness is related to the uselessness of search tools in Second Life Viewer. I too would like to have access to the database search UI that was removed from Second Life Viewer but I won't use a third party viewer to get it.
  21. Owner name shows up on those pages, when they are generated. I do not know if Sage Mellow owns land or if they have a group that owns land. I also am not SURE that LL's search still uses those pages.
