  1. Over the years it has always been one thing or another that we complain about, but I could always go shopping and look as good as the next avatar. But with the mesh body avatars so prevalent now, when I go shopping so much of the clothing is not even intended for me, now when I go shopping, most of the time when I see something I like, I can’t even use it. And because shopping for my avatar was a big part of my SL, a big part of my SL is now gone. So the absolute destruction of the clothing market has to be my biggest disappointment. But hey, at least my SL is costing me a lot less money now.
  2. Wearing clothes takes forever, I timed it yesterday and after five minutes I gave up. I clicked on the folder and clicked add. I guess that got the servers attention but not all that quickly, one by one each piece started to rez on me. Then I took them all off and added the one I was trying to do a demo of for my body. And its the same on my Linux Mint 64 box and my windows 7 64 box both with Kokua viewer. I also use Alchemy on my Mint box but will need to test that more to say. I am premium and this is in my Linden Home with only one or two other avatars on the sim. So yes its slow and has been for a while.
  3. I don't make changes to my settings a lot so I had to log on to see what my settings are, and apparently I keep ALM on all the time, but without DoF. CPU: AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor (3311.17 MHz) Memory: 8139 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 1060 3G
  4. Doesn’t windlight only change how you see your self, others will not see you the same so you would still be pale to others?
  5. I laugh to hard watching people that refuse to use the alpha HUD for what ever reason, and my body got a good review on mesh body addicts web page so its not experimental. But don’t get me wrong, some of the clothes fit like they were made for the body, you know, they used the developers kit. But to much of it does not, so I still find my self using my classic body about 90% of the time, or more. LOL, its a good thing I like it, because without it I would be looking for another place to play. The only problem is I like to shop, but the mesh bodies have made such a mess of the market its starting to sour me on SL.
  6. Take your time looking for a mesh body. I got a lot of demos and only the beginning of September bought a mesh body. But I find after the newness subsided I seldom use it and prefer my classic body, clothing is a disaster for mesh bodies. Even clothing that says its made for my body it still does not fit, well it fits if you stand perfectly still, but I don’t do that. Just another side of the story.
  7. Morgan, just to be clear, I am saying the body brand is on the ad board but nothing at all for the body is in the demo, nothing, zero, zip, nothing at all. Its like advertising a Porsche but selling you a bicycle. DEMO DEMO DEMO
  8. Yes demo, demo, demo. And for the mesh body I bought I find it even more important. I found a store with a fairly good number of ad boards with my body listed. I got a demo and was surprised that there was no demo for my body, most of the other mesh bodies are there but not my body, its listed on the ad board but there is no demo. I sent a note card to the store owner and have not even received a reply from her. I was polite and only asked, was it left out or just not available. Looking around her store most of the ad boards listing my body did not have a demo for my body. So if I had not got a demo and just bought the item I doubt I would have received a refund, LOL I have not even gotten a simple reply to a note card and its been almost a week. Then I started looking at more stores, same thing in a couple I looked at. This makes getting a demo even more important, and if there is no demo, run away as fast as you can. So much for my delving into the realm of mesh avatars, its a good thing I really like my classic avatar because I'm not spending that much money again on one of them.
  9. First, I bought a mesh body. Now looking for clothing and I know I need to look for clothing for my brand of body. What I have run into is this, I try on, say, a pair of jeans, and if I stand still they fit. But if I move my hips poke through the waist of the pants, and no, an alpha cut here would not look right or even work. And some clothing / pants I have tried do not act this way, they fit even when I move. On one item I bought the piece made for my brand body fits exactly like the best size fit mesh fits my body, with both sizes my hips poke through the waist of the pants if I move. Yet I have other pants for my body brand I have bought and no matter how I move my hips do not poke through the waist of the pants. Are some creators slapping “body brand name” on fit mesh and thinking its all the same, or, is it all the same? For items to fit I thought, they had to be rigged to the mesh body brand, or fitted to the mesh brand of body, and not the underlying LL body, I am not sure of the terminology even. I don't think I can be putting the clothing on wrong, so how is mesh clothing for mesh bodies suppose to work, am I correct that items need to be fitted to or rigged to the correct body for them to fit correctly? And if that were not the case then why so many different sizes? Or is the problem with me somehow. I like the mesh body I bought but some times I think I may have just wasted a lot of money.
  10. Tari said: I'm not arguing against improvements. I am arguing against LL creating basically the very same thing mesh body creators are creating, because it lessens *their* market. We heard that argument about Linden Homes, housing market was not crashed. A better starter avatar would not hurt mesh avatar sales at all, IMHO, I for one will not buy one one way or the other. Its just to much money for “me”, and its to complicated for “me”, yes I’ve done demos.
  11. I sent my alt to look at it, was okay until I got to the license or Terms of Service or what ever they call it, I just could not agree to it so I could not use it. I mentioned this to some people that did not even know they agreed to it.
  12. Wow, what a great thread. But it has cemented me firmly in the position of not spending thousands of lindens on a mesh avatar. And yes, you do need to start all over from the very beginning. Also you may consider something I did, after getting demo after demo of mesh avatars I settled on one that I liked, did not buy, but if I did buy that would be the one. Then I went shopping, I need jeans, those look nice, not for the avatar I would own, oh those look nice, again will not fit the avatar I would own had I bought the one I like. Time after time item after item things that I looked at and liked I could not fit the mesh avatar I like into. Yes I did find a lot of clothing that would fit her, but what I liked the most I would not have been able to wear, just something else to think about. Go shopping for things you like, and if you can't find what your looking for before you purchase the avatar, there is an excellent chance you will not find it after you buy the avatar. But one thing is for sure, they are beautiful, but just not for everyone, its a lot of money and that is the one thing I don't have.
  13. I attempted to TP but got a message, your not allowed. Did not say its full or any thing like that, just, your not allowed. There were a number of sims with a dozen or so people around but I got the same message from each place I tried to TP to. That has been my SL14B experience. I did log on with my alt (with the LL viewer) that is not Premium and she was transported at long on without even asking to go there, but because I don't use her I just logged off.
  14. Points I have made that are simply not true, I have stated opinions, and for them there is no true or false, its an opinion. Some facts like cost and the fact that there is a lot more to working with a mesh avatars than classic avatars can't be denied. And that last one is, I thought, one of the good points about mesh avatars that you can do more with them, there is more available to them, more options. And as for new people, IMHO, I think telling them right off that they look ugly because they have not spent thousands of lindens on a mesh avatar is more damaging to SL. Just starting in SL and getting bombarded by potential bills for your avatar that you thought was free is not helping retain people in SL. Stop telling the new people they are ugly and need to update their avatar, its “feeling” like they are being told, your ugly get out! I fully expect to see places demand only mesh avatars or you will be banned, doubt it but would not be surprised. And also, what points have I made that are misleading and simply not true, I know its not the cost, I agree the are pretty, and they are a lot more work than the classic avatar, so its not that, what then? And still, doing another demo, there is a new, fairly new, avatar on mesh addicts that is complete with head, I, on my PC, still have a line around my neck, can't live with that. I'll try it again in a month or so because it is kind of new and does look nice, but for now, delete. And I do think that mesh avatars are a good thing, but I am disappointed that LL has not done more in that regard, an option for a start up avatar that is Modifiable and looks good, an avatar comparable to the classic avatar that can wear clothing, skins, etc.. off the MP. And its not because it will take away from the market, if that had anything to do with it there would never have been Linden Homes, and yes I live in one and love it, sorry for being out of step yet again. And what am I looking for in a mesh avatar, I don't know and I guess that is one reason I don't have one yet, but I'm still looking. But the cost is one factor that is slowing me down, I get more of a “feeling” of being nickle-and-dimmed to death than with the classic avatar.
  15. I just ignore it, its so first grade, should have been gold with a star. I would like to be able to turn it off.
  16. The thing is, you don't need to try a demo for something you don't like. I have used the mesh body addicts web page extensively, they show you all the facts and even graph it out for you, big help. Then you can watch YouTube and get a good look at how others use the body, look at all the photos in this and other forums, then if you see one and think, I like that, then get the demo, if you don't like it, why bother getting the demo. And I keep forgetting, I do have a mesh avatar, I got her back in 2012 for 300L, and not a headless handless footless almost an avatar but an avatar with even an alpha HUD that even came with some clothing. I just don't spend any money on her, and I don't ever see her mentioned in places like mesh addicts, so she is just a curiosity to me. And the avatar was recently updated to bento and I think fitmesh too, and all for free. Because I don't spend any money on her she stays hidden away and mostly forgotten until something like this happens to remind me I have her. And she came out long before most of the mesh avatars on the stage now, so what took you all so long? And part of what keeps me from going to what I'll call new mesh avatars is the fact that if I get one it will most likely end up just like the one I bought back in 2012, sitting in my inventory while my classic avatar goes out to play.
  17. So because I don't demo the one you like, I'm not being rational. That does not sound like a rational statement to me. And the fact is that I am testing the ones that I think I may like, just not your favorite mesh avatar. Do you own part of Maitreya?
  18. I have only the classic avatar and have found that some of the mesh clothing made for mesh avatars fit me. Get a demo and try on everything, like me you may get lucky and have more options for clothing than some of the mesh avatars.
  19. Change is not the issue. And the Maitreya that you mention does not even make it to the list of what I demo. And that is part of the problem. The clothing industry is a disaster right now, if you don't own “the right” mesh avatar its harder to get clothing for your mesh avatar than it is for a “Classic” avatar. I really feel sorry for the creators today, every avatar needs its own specially made pieces of clothing, and I have yet to see one piece of clothing that has a special copy for every mesh avatar on the market. But I have found my classic avatar can wear clothes for several of the mesh avatars, cloths that are not made for the classic avatar, so for clothing I'm better off staying with the classic avatar, I have more clothing available than some of the mesh avatars. But for me one of my biggest problems is the cost, because its not the avatar, its all the new clothing, new skins, new mesh parts, new mesh head {to get rid of the gallows marks around my neck}, replace all my makeup and on and on, as in, start over. And I have 70K reasons not to do that. No, its not change, its one, the cost, and two, just starting over.
  20. I play at it off and on so its not a year of work. I get the bug to change but I can't thank of Teagan going away, and that is what a mesh avatar will do. I have seen it said in forums that to make the line around your neck go away the only thing you can do is get a mesh head, no, not going there. If there are no feet, and I can't use all my slink shoes, then, no. And I don't have slink feet but another brand, and they work perfectly. If it does not come with hands, then, no. And my skin is old, its a good skin from a good store but its so old I can't even look it up, its gone, so no appliers, so all new skins to go mesh. The only good part is that I like my avatar, and for me changing to a mesh avatar is not a priority or a necessity, and as it stands right now, not even a possibility. But I'll keep looking at and getting the demo of several that I think I may like, who knows, maybe some day. And Chase01, thanks for the offer to help, but I'll pass for now, thanks.
  21. Isn't that the truth, I have one mesh hair in particular that if I wear a mesh top with it there are spots you can see right through me. I did not expect that from mesh hair. The thing is, there is a time and place for both, for photos mesh hair is beautiful, but for dancing flexi hair is the only way to go.
  22. (I bolded) LOL, I'll laugh harder at you for wearing Playdough hair, what is loving referred to as mesh hair just to make it sound better. A good flexi hair will ALOWYS look better than something plastered motionless on your head held in place with six cans of hair spray. (IMHO)
  23. Chic Aeon said: So unless you want to wear a choker all the time covering that line, you need a mesh head :D. I even bought new skin with Omega to try to get rid of that line, demo after demo all make it look like I just got rescued from the gallows. I'll quit trying to get rid of that now. Thank you for posting that.
  24. And the reality is that some of us like the “Classic” avatar and will not move to the expensive and challenging mesh avatars. (IMHO) And I have been doing demo mesh avatars for over a year, they are pretty! I have even bought Omega skins just to use with the demo. I just can't get the hang of them, they are just to much work for me. And I'm not in Second Life to make work for myself, so I'll stick with the “Classic” avatar.
  25. Teagan refrains from sticking her fingers in her ears and saying “Classic Avatar” over and over.
