  1. Interesting! I was wondering why some events were getting so tacky. Others though (also tacky) still have the older system. I have noted though that event owners have definitely lowered the bar and some well-known long time events are actually ADVERTISING for creators (oh my). EDIT 15 minutes later: I just realized that it is VERY likely no one could get to the event space without being in the group, so that there WAS criteria of some sort. The pay the booth you want method has been around many years -- just not on events that I was often in. Wanted to also note that there are many MANY non-premium creators in SL. That is very evident from past comments on the MERCHANT thread. I personally never had any problems with group slots and the only year I was premium was the year Belli was introduced and I wanted one of the first houses. Agree that for a very long time there have been too many events and some priced too high and once that started proliferating it made it less and less profitable to participate -- hence much less participation from quality creators. Assume that anyone watching the regular events has noticed that. Very widespread going back years. As for the January slump, my business with no events and no advertising and no group and no sale items and no new releases is doing better in January than it has for a few months -- even after I took a lot of main store items down from display and basically left the city and prefab store.
  2. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! As someone who has had many many lots (maybe 25) on mainland over the years and ended up with neighbors who terraformed so that I couldn't use all of my lot ==== and those who just made things very ugly -- I would definitely vote against this. If you want to raise and lower the ground more than the default look at the very old "color" sims. They have much higher options.
  3. In the VERY olden days -- before third party viewers by a couple of years I think -- there was no choice as to status. If you didn't move your mouse or something similar ever 30 minutes (not quite sure on the time) you just slumped over. Then, mostly because there was lots of camping for linden dollars going on, some techie folks made attachments that "kept you awake" so that you could camp and earn money while the typists slept :D. I turned off that "away" function at the first chance. Those slumped over bodies do nothing for the landscape and I didn't want to be one. I have a feeling that many to most of us can be "away" and no one will ever know. So doubt the color code would do much except point out new folks LOL.
  4. Wanted to mention that there was a recent thread talking about some part of the service being down that was needed for the "bots" (not alts logged in by the owner) and the conclusion from that was that there were about 20,000 bots. Add in the extra avatars made to count as traffic and the concurrency rate is probably below 22,000 -- certainly not what it was in SL's heyday and before bots came into being. So we obviously have fewer avatars that buy on a regular basis. Add to that the aging of the population. Many of us have a decade or more of good looking and usable items. It is difficult to justify buying yet another couch or sweater or even hair. I have been watching the events closely for about three years, the last year that I participated a bunch and the two years I have been retired. What were the top events of old have been going downhill for some time. A few have closed and others are stumbling along with a fraction of the sellers they once had. Shapes and makeup and poses (all fairly easy to make) have replaced original mesh and there is rarely anything I want to buy. I agree that the sales venues must be hurting creators -- whether they partake in them or just watch from the sidelines. Many of the discount events have some really horrid items, but what is more bothersome to me is that some of our top designers have recently begun to participate. Trompe Loeil joined FLF last round and this week TRUTH has a stunning hair with massive huds for 50 linden. The shopper in me is thrilled but overall I think that is a very disturbing sign. It feels like they are desperate to keep their income at old levels and I fear that --- for most people -- that will be impossible.
  5. I just had this happen for the first time last night and again this morning. Before (early Dec) it was fine. Also a friend request that was accepted and "took" disappeared from list when logging in the next time. So this is certainly problematic. Happy to see this post. Very timely. PS. This had nothing to do with an alt but a land group and the land group's owner.
  6. There is no reason to do this and in some cases it would be UNWISE to reveal your real name. Customers will pay your avatar. Your avatar will get the money earned and either spend inworld or convert to US dollars (to pay tier of premium membership OR transfer out to Paypal; fees will be taken out). No one needs to know you are "Jenny Blanchard and live in Oklahoma" :D. Really no one cares.
  7. Agree with sandi about high resolution and DOF. And your photo IS large. But I just did a test and I don't have the same issues as you do. Since your frame is "tipped" I am guessing you are using Black Dragon and so that preview issue may be JUST a part of that viewer. Does the final snapshot turn out the same? PS I am using Firestorm. Also I have no idea what the "remember" box that is checked does. So you might investigate that.
  8. No easy way that is why some folks only make for a few brands (or Just Maitreya) bodies. In Sansar you could more or less import from MD and it would fit "most" bodies with some adjustments by the buyer in the dressing room. Second Life has a completely different set up mostly because of changes over a long period of time. Long ago there was "fitted mesh" which a few designers still use, but it had its own problems and did not "fit like a second skin" that we are used to now. Good luck.
  9. Well so much for transparency and "heads up". Hope it works out for you.
  10. Well we know that they have been planning on "discount" texture uploads for a long while (years?) and you can see evidence on the beta grid -- or still could the last time I was there. Some obvious things that people have repeatedly said they wanted would be: Homestead purchase without having to buy a full sim A "Belli" type area but with bigger lots like double sized giving people more land impact and fewer houses per sim Yet again more groups (I don't get that personally but I sure hear it a lot) Yet again more attachment points (like the two animesh attachments for premium type thing) The ability to have more than one Marketplace store Just some obvious ideas
  11. Some of those goals in the list have been on and off the roadmaps a few times already (looks like seven). Nice to see a list. Hope that some come to fruition. I am still worried about that lindens to USD becoming taxable under Tilia edict though. We still haven't heard explanation about that and the change would be a game changer for many people -- and not in a good way. Fingers crossed that the future is bright.
  12. For the OP BUT while the swap is based on size --- complexity and density (not exactly sure how those differ so let's call it triangle - vertices count) can be quite important IF you are using the uploader pane to pick your LODs. The more complex (draped fabric is a good example) the more likely the uploader will do a poor job. You can compensate for this by changing the numbers in the LOD boxes and TESTING. TESTING, TESTING. Better to make your mesh less complex to start out with. There is a point when an object gets really large that the lowest LODs are ignored. I don't remember the rule on this but someone else will.
  13. Any word on this yet? Getting close to decision time for some folks :D. Thanks!!!!!
  14. Very pretty head. Trying on an alt. Using Evo rather than Evox and have a nasty neck seam where there wasn't one before using other heads. Is there a setting I need to change? Meanwhile she has a choker :D. Thanks.
  15. Well I am confused BUT I joined and bought yesterday for FREE. The group I joined is still free this morning.
  16. Group is needed or money is refunded. The "towel" costs 2 land impact so not a good deal in my estimation. White or black woods. From the last group notice: Hi Superfans! Its Christmas week and Trompe Loeil has some exclusive goodies just for you: 🍁 This week only, stop in every day and get two special Superfans only products for just $L50! We'll have two new items up for only $L50 each every day through Christmas - watch for a daily notice and stop in now for the first two offerings! http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Hyde Park/217/172/22 🍁 New Superfans 50% discounted items behind the desk
  17. This was a gray area when Tilia became more visible -- a couple of years ago now I think. I could look it up but it doesn't really matter. My take on your description of events is that "now" any lindens converted to cash (even if not processed to Paypal) are being counted as income. One important thing here (for the US anyway) is that while it is now classified as "income", the tier each month is also a "cost" of you doing business. So on Form C (most likely) the lindens you converted to dollars would be balanced by the cost of the tier and fees and you would not actually be paying any tax money to the US government. At least that is what I did when I was reporting SL income. You would still have the decision about giving your SSN to Tilia. This was always a possibility. I saw that long ago and stopped processing credit or turning lindens into USD. The fact that LL didn't tell anyone this info (at least this is the first I have heard) until AFTER the change had been made is pretty nasty. It isn't clear to me if this is actually a move that is REQUIRED BY US LAW or if Tilia is taking it upon itself to make this move "in case". Hopefully someone better with research skills than I will know. @animats perhaps who seems to keep up with this. As an aside there was a time when Patch mentioned that LL might take lindens for land payment, but that of course didn't happen for the obvious reason of Money-Money-Money :D. This does seem to be another very large nail in the coffin. I am very sad but not a bit surprised.

    Mesh and lag.

If the physics is made correctly it can be "perfect" and not contribute much at all to a simple build. Adding those mesh prims to approximate actual physics just adds to the land impact. So plenty of pieces to the puzzle.

    Mesh and lag.

And there is a lot of differences in the way mesh is made. One dense mesh object (render mesh most often) can be way more problematic that a dozen low poly mesh objects. So all mesh is NOT created equal.
  20. No longer possible purposefully --- hence selling of EEPs on Marketplace
  21. I received this super cute gardenia shed from dust bunny. I have plans
  22. If rezzing is an issue don't forget "show friends only" and that will cut out most of the issues.
  23. Sales and reviews have nothing in coming. Some of my top selling products in the thousands have no reviews at all. Whenever I see a ton of reviews for a brand new product I am VERY suspicious :D. The same can be said of bad review made by competitors. ^^. Been there, done that, moved on.
  24. I thought it quite interesting that much of the "old guard" big name stores that were around in the beginning returned to this round of Shop and Hop. It made Shop and Hop better certainly and that was great, but it also says something about sales and profits across a wider metric. I pretty much stopped creating after Tilia so I am not a good measurement but I still have lots of popular items on the Marketplace. I can say that my current income is about a fifth of what it was before Tilia (not blaming that all on TIlia -- just a timeline thing). I personally don't know any creators that say they are doing well and tons who are wondering what to do in the future. So it certainly seems like things are pretty bad out there for all the reasons already mentioned here. Personally I am giving up on the weekend sales as there is just too much of the same thing (often EXACTLY the same product again and again). Now I purchase items that are creative and different and show some care in their making. This is mostly to "reward" the creators who are still putting in the energy and thought for their brand's products.
