  1. Greetings. I have a question regarding mesh avatars. I'm following instructions on the rigging instructions page but would like to know something not mentioned there: To what extent are custom bones supported? Is the builtin animation skeleton the only one we can use, or can you import a mesh containing your own armature granted you use custom animations for it? I have several characters not using the builtin rig and bone naming scheme (L_UPPER_ARM, R_HAND, PELVIS, etc) for which I'd prefer to keep existing animations. I don't expect the appearance editor to work, nor things like the head turning around procedurally, but am hoping that with a custom AO I can still get it to animate the movement accordingly. Renaming the bones to match the current SL mesh isn't a problem, but I have special bones as well which I'd like to be supported by custom animations. Do I have any chance of getting that to work? Thank you.
  2. software used: Blender 2.79b, Avastar 2.5.1 and firestorm viewer. Hello, i'm having an issue with a mesh limb for a custom avatar i made that uses custom joint offset (pic1, pic2), i upload it with "include skin weight" and "include joint position" . the arm it self works until i wear some mesh that is rigged with a different joint offset, this will dislocate completely the limb and i have to relog to fix it. Also the fingers are all pointing in the wrong direction whenever i wear something or not.     Rigging BENTO mesh avatar

    Hello! help please! I tried to rig the bento mesh avatar for the first time, but I failed. it uploaded as simple mesh object. the usual skeleton works well. What is bento's difference from the usual? Need some kind of plugin? Why does not work in the usual way? i use blender/firestorm. thanks!

Mi problema es que desde hace un tiempo vengo subiendo a SL algunas creaciones y de todas ellas, solo la primera subió con sus texturas, luego ya no pude volver a hacer uso de esa opción. Esta es la primera vez que intento subir un mesh con rig y tampoco me aparece la opción para subirlo con pesos de piel, ¿algún consejo?. Aclaro que usé Blender 2.79, 2.78 y 2.77 y Firestorm para SL 5.1 y 5.0 y nada. Tampoco utilizo Avastar, es que solo necesito los huesos de la cabeza, cuello y parte superior de la espalda. Agradezco mucho su atención.

My problem is that for some time now I have been uploading some creations to SL and of all of them, only the first one came up with its textures, then I could not use that option again. This is the first time I try to upload a mesh with rig and I do not see the option to upload it with skin weights, any advice ?. I clarify that I used Blender 2 .79, 2.78 and 2.77 and official viewer and Firestorm for SL 5.1 and 5.0 and nothing. I also do not use Avastar, I only need the bones of the head, neck and upper back. I really appreciate your attention.

    Avatar rig issue & request

    Greetings everyone, and thank you for the time. I have been working to prepare a new avatar of mine, my latest and I have rigged up and made a lot of avatars before so while I am not a professional user of Blender, i am familiar with it and in making mesh avatars for Second Life. This time, i have decided to prepare something non-human where the shape I have i made it hunched a bit, however with bi-pedal legs and a hunched stature it makes aligning and working out the template armature really advanced for me. Too advanced so far, I have tried a lot of things but in vain. After sweating with this for a while, now I would like to turn to anyone experienced in rigging avatars where I have not managed to succeed and request support if anyone wishes to rig up my non-human model for me and turn it into an avatar. I would also like to be sent the file and work as an educational means so that I can study and learn how all of this works out with non-human models. It would mean so much if I could have support with this. I would offer lindens for the trouble if this is preferred, though it should be discussed first.     Custom avatar bone positions

    Hello! Lately I've been trying to learn how to make custom mesh avatars for SL, but I've run into a problem I can't seem to figure out on my own. As far as I know, it should be possible to do what I am trying to do, so hopefully someone can share some much needed knowledge about the subject. The issue I'm having is editing the SL armature to to fit my mesh, which possible, results in some weird bone deformation/offsets in SL on import. Judging from the picture i've attached, the problem seems to be the edited bones not storing rotation in world, where scale and position seems to function just fine. As a result of the bones not being rotated, it causes my avatars legs to spread out in a funny manner (which amusing, isn't very useful! ??) see second picture.

Whenever I try to copy skin weights from a mesh body, I end up with this kind of issue when moving the joints like this https://i.gyazo.com/7c7e6b43356665033e144f909d3b31ab.mp4 Is there a way to easily copy weights in Maya or other software without having this issue? I was playing around with making a layer for alpha's for a mesh body with the same issue, even when both have the same topology.

    Avatar basics, what to know

    Hello, This is my first time on SL and my first time wanting to create something for it. I joined basically so i could do this as i think it's the coolest thing in the world right now. As I tend to learn by asking and figuring out the basics. I have a few questions before I get into making my mesh. Is there a specific poly limit? What about size? how does one rig the mesh, is there a default skeleton? I want to make a humanoid with a tail, can the tail be included in the mesh? I know i should use "Collada" (using blender) and export as .DAE but is there anything else format wise to be wary of? what about making weight maps and texture maps? Same as regular or are there constraints I should be wary of? let me know, and if you have any links to useful tutorials and information send them my way Thanks guys!

    Hello, I'm beginner blender user. I have some problem about making shape. I have finished making mesh and import it to SL, but I can't click 'skin weight' in upload model window. May be I missed something? .. I trying to import and it's only an object. Could anyone suggest me?, Thanks
