  1. Sometimes we have to put forth an effort to get back to where we want to be. For me and for this year that means rediscovering the joy of winter in SL. So I am pushing myself in that direction and hoping it takes. To that end here is a quick challenge that you can make as difficult or as easy as you like. Favorite winter outfit (or décor styling for those that don't love fashion. Only one of each so be PICKY about your choices. I am making my selection from mostly OLDER outfits and settled on this already made one in my inventory. It includes many gifts from last year, some purchases and a few really old things. Here is what I am wearing and the years the items were made. Sometimes "old" is just as good as new. amias - SKATES over shoulder version F (group gift still on the wall last I looked --- 2020) [7DS] - BODY 2020 CHRISTMAS HOPE bom skin (group gift) ---2020 LeLUTKA.Head.Lilly.2.5 (group gift ) --- 2020 .euphoric ~Mavi Eyes (group gift) ---2020 ::C'est la vie !:: Inda Leggings (#2) - Milk (Marketplace purchase in a set) NO.MATCH_NO.BORDER. (female ) blogger copy ::GB::2 Tone Down jacket (Maitreya) Beige 2021 ::GB::2 Tone Down jacket (Maitreya) Beige 2021 :CP: Aneto Skis (blogger sample) 2018
  2. I actually listed Tilia (the new rules a couple of years ago) as the beginning of things hurting creators and the gachas as the latest -- this in a recent blog post. So while we often do not agree, this time I think we do. It is difficult to get enthusiasm to make gifts if you aren't even paying your tier. My decision to "retire" when the new Tilia TOS came into being was a good one for me.
  3. A book I should reread some day. Meanwhile I am back wandering around after 10 days or so in hospital. It's like I am on a different grid and I have a feeling I missed SOMETHING while I was gone. Most of my Advent favorites are calendar-less this year not to mention the strange issue with calendar scripts and today I found a prominent one just gone. I visited a bunch of events -- all giftless and a malaise seems to be floating over the grid. Bloggers aren't blogging that much and it is VERY QUIET. It seems like folks are reacting to something but what that "something IS I have no clue. Any info appreciated.
  4. Hi all. The issue with Nutmeg's gachas (as well as some other brands including the match head shop) is that some items have horrid (super horrid) LODs. Some items are fine LOD but very high land impact. Sometimes you know the LI from the vendor key and somethings not. And of course LI is not necessarily an indication of triangle count. So it is particularly tricky. I would buy things in the aftermarket and then end up giving them to a friend as there was no way I would use them. Even among the heavy mesh brands (some who of course don't make their own mesh) it is a shot in the dark. Now and then though there are pieces with good LODs as well as reasonable triangle counts. THEN you are definitely a winner. It doesn't look like that trend is going to change any time soon. Personally I most often shop with the brands I know make good LODs and low triangle counts --- consistently.
  5. Just wanted to let you guys know that I have not left the planet. Not used to notebook in bed so a good time for a break. Advent calender will hopefully work smoothly. I can log in to pay rent but that is even tough ... Will be back when I return home.
  6. Make sure this happens in the Linden viewer if you are using an alternate. If it happens in BOTH, then it isn't a viewer issue. If you have reproduced the problem in the Linden viewer as well as any alternate viewers, then you can contact SUPPORT and see if they have ideas.
  7. If people would actually READ the information on the Firestorm blog BEFORE trying the DIY method, their lives would be much easier. Having READ all the info needed it took me -- as said by someone else -- about five minutes to install the latest version. I didn't loose my settings as I had a BACKUP in a secure location (several actually) and I RESTORED using the backup option once the NEW VERSION was in place. Note that none of this is NEW FS behavior. Backups have been in FS for years now. If you don't use that function then, yes you will need to painstakingly go through all your preference files. If you wanted to convert FS Windlight settings to EEP you needed to save the skies folder - again in a different and secure location. ALL if this is documented on the Firetorm blog. And AFAIK Firestorm will NOT update anything FOR YOU (like Chrome and Windows) -- hence you downloading and installing -- so "they" didn't make a change a couple of weeks ago. Linden Lab may have made a change that "broke" something in FS for you or Windows may have made a change. The introductory page to the latest Version of FS is here:https://www.firestormviewer.org/firestorm-release-6-4-21-64531/ Installation instructions (for windows) are here: https://www.firestormviewer.org/windows/ Updating instructions are here: https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/fs_update_viewer
  8. Well it is Tuesday and no new color of the week. How can that be? I "am" working on a simpler challenge -- on that can still span time, but isn't "weekly". I need to find more parts and pieces for it though. So watch the challenge boards in the near future. Let's hope I find something. If you look at the Challenge post listings you can easily tell that we are currently at the top of "popularity" (views and posts) so we did a few things right and it was great fun seeing what folks came up with each week. So here's to new adventures.
  9. I haven't ever done this but the first thing "I" would try would be to rename the props as needed -- so wineglass 1, wineglass 2 etc. Is that possible? Then each prop would be treated separately. Just a guess.
  10. Note that while a good program long ago (oh so long ago) the newer Qavimator was in beta and never finished with a ton of issues. I am not sure about the MAC part of the issue, but if you haven't researched all this you might want to before working on it more.
  11. This is a really nice set. I have it from when it was new. I "think" it was a gacha? as there was a RARE piece of wall deco that isn't in this. Mine was a blogger box. I don't care tons about the food but the furniture and decor is definitely worth looking at. Artisan Fantasy via Wanderlust Weekend. Also a really pretty outdoor piece from Hextraordinary.
  12. In many (*not all*) the mesh will look better in render view in the software (this in Blender anyway). I suggest that either "overdoing " the brightness and contrast within the mesh builder software OR simply making more contrast in a graphic program is a much better answer, IF you turn on full bright then your item will look pretty awful in a nighttime setting. Typicallly full bright is used for vendor photos in stores to "simulate" lighting --- this from well over a decade ago. So do a few tests and see what you come up with. Good luck. Definitely not a natural look.
  13. I'd say that kitty has "swag" but doesn't appear to be terribly friendly. Everyone is different and has their own prejudices -- unfortunately. It may or may not hurt your business but really, I think you should be whatever you feel comfortably being :D.
  14. Yes, but the "other owner" for me was just an alt. That makes no difference of course. Before the cost of premium went up deeding land to a group (most often your alts but sometimes friends) was the cheapest way to pay your "taxes". It still saves but not like it used to. Deeding to group and SETTING to group are very different things. So the people involved IF it is more than one corporeal person should know the risks --- of course. There are some articles in the knowledge base.
  15. I believe the answer to that is that the land (owned by two different people) needs to be DEEDED TO GROUP and not SET to group (which I am guessing is what they did. That's how it worked for me anyway.
  16. @Scylla Rhiadra thanks for the poke. I don't have a studio. I either take shots in world at a pretty sim or (lately) use some of the great backdrops that you can get for almost free on the weekend sales. Often I just use the sky and water and sand if it is a more explanatory post. Long long ago (like a decade) a large portion of photographers and bloggers used "green screens" and then plopped the cut out of their avatar onto real life scenes. That never worked for me wtylewise although I have seen some really lovely heavily (HEAVILY) Photoshopped works that are extremely creative and thought provoking. I love shadows and happily have come to terms with EEP (after over two years in beta and Firestorms UI improvements) so lighting and atmosphere are a big part of the story for me. I have a new super hefty computer now with a 3070 card and can do anything that I want to do. Before -- not so much :D. I take my shots at 5000 or 6000 pixels and then crop and resize down to 1999 which is the largest a photo can be and not count against your Blogspot photo space. Most of my shots are basically raw shots, resized with a subtle vignette and signature. I do have some fun "painterly" tools in Corel that I use now and then but typically on landscapes. Most of the time I work on my sim but now that it is pretty full and I decorated for winter, I will be over at my favorite non-premium really ancient sandbox now and then as needed. I use Firestorm and Corel Paintshop Pro 2021. That's it.
  17. It is our very last color! Those that have been paying attention know that color to be: ORANGE. Yep, just plain old orange. This was the color that ended the original 52 color challenge and I thought it fitting to be ours too. Congratulations to anyone who did ALL the colors, same for folks that just did the colors they liked. It all works. Honestly I didn't expect there to be anyone left after a year so you guys did great. I have no idea how many folks completely the challenge on their blogs, but kudos to them also. Here is your swatch:
  18. No I didn't clear the cache, but maybe I wasn't clear before. I searched a few times with terms that SHOULD have brought up the item. Then (right after with no relog or anything) I did a MANUAL VISUAL search and found the item named just as it should have been in my inventory. If I could find it there "by hand" the search feature should have been able to find it with correct search words. That was my point :D.
  19. I am guessing you would be missing quite a few steps (including the need for retopology of a most likely heavy mesh object) in order to get the sitting cat into SL. There would be more steps in Blender and that's what I am going by. It is always good to have a basic understanding of the software as well as what is NEEDED for a platform before uploading. Not that people actually pay attention to that need :D.
  20. Just nothing that INVENTORY search is also broken -- and in Firestorm (assuming it is also in the Linden viewer). I was looking for some inventory last week and knew the exact name of the item (my blog credits copied and pasted) and also knew I had NOT deleted it. Couldn't find it with search. Suspect that the database fairy may have struck again but then wen painstakingly though my folders looking for it where it "should have been" and indeed it was there. I tried searching again using the exact name of the item and then part of the name (like "table") and neither of those brought up the item. I had suspected this problem for a long while but never bothered to test it thoroughly. SO if you are missing a particular item in your inventory (not a folder's worth, just an item or two) it may still be there. Just don't expect to find it with search. SOMETIMES of course you will find the item you are looking for. Very confusing.
  21. F Find or make the sky setting you want under SETTINGS (it is now an asset that can be passed to other folks or sold) and drag it over to the appropriate slot.
  22. You set all levels the same. Since we don't have details on your problem I am going to GUESS that you want "sky 4" to be at a level that interferes with another sky setting. You can't change the height from ground for the levels as far as I know -- YOU have to conform. I did just what you describe with no issues so it certainly is possible and easy. Maybe you need to explain exactly what you are trying to do that isn't getting accomplished.
  23. There was a long and big article on the FS blog explaining how you should save your Windlights before install the EEP version. If you don't have them on a abakcup somewhere YOUR PERSONAL ONES ARE LOST. Many of the previously included Windlights are still in the viewer (not all but many) and "soimeone" bothered to convert all the older Windlight settings into EEP and put them on the Marketplace for free --- so search for that if needed. Always good to read the release notes before installing a new program :D. This wasn't new news at all but if you didn't know you missed out. Sorry.
  24. I understand that. What I am saying = or trying to -- is FOR ME over the last decade or so the camera hasn't been doing that. My camera stays where it is when I get up and I see myself GETTING UP. It doesn't shift to the side or to the back. If everyone always HAS the problem (well not everyone obviously as I have not -- but if it is typical) then I guess it isn't a big deal. I have it now (I think) so that the camera only goes to the back of the head when you stand up. I remember that from the REALLY old days, just not any of the current past years. I have no idea what setting has been "fixing" that (in my mind) for me. I have everything done and packed up and I really don't SIT that often anyway LOL, so it's all OK. One thing I have noticed over the long years is that typcially we expect everyone else's SL to be like OUR SL --- which of course it is not. There are too many choices and variables for us to all be on the same exact page together. That WAS one thing in Sansar. As creators we knew exactly what our audience would see. That was a nice thing. It took away some of their freedom however -- and that was not so nice. Moving on. Shopping. Making snow. Decorating ===
  25. There is a current bug (and JIRA) in Firestorm. I noticed at the very beginning of October. Definitely problematic when building. Random teleports when you weren't trying etc. Camming and then touching sets it off also. So hopefully it will get fixed in the next release.
