Welcome to Second Life Answers, krista1k

If you want to be invisible, there is an invisible layer in your inventory (just type in the word invisible into the inventory search box and slide this over to your avatar).

If it is that you wish to be invisible, as in you do not wish people to know when you are online, the only way you can do this is to create a separate avatar (officially you can have up to five avatars per household), and not make any friends when you log in on this "alt" account.

How do I find out if my partner is invisible

If you are in a mutual group that shows members, then you can search their name in the member list an see if they are online. However, one would hope that your partner wouldn't ghost you as that would be a huge red flag.

Send him an IM.  If you get the offline message, all is good.  If you do not, then he has gone invisible - time to break up, because true partners can just tell each other "I need time to myself, please leave me alone for a while".

That's easy, just date someone else and your partner will IM you magically out of nowhere.

(*if they don't then at least you 'll be having a great time)
