This, because I interpreted this:

..as essentially referencing the recent discussions about everything from Forum reactions, quoting/not quoting, Forum reputation, etc. and saw an opportunity to ("springboard", as you say) post something "on-topic".  (I do that a lot sometimes, especially in threads I create.)

One reason I desired to "bring it back" is, we have started to get "IBTL" posts above.  IMO, "nothing keeps a thread alive better than getting back on-topic!" Whether this thread "deserves" to be kept alive, I will leave for others to judge.

And no, I don't disagree with the caveat / addendum, "Foruming is hard" for SOME people!

I disagree that this thread has been off topic but it has run its course when some feel the need to "springboard" from anothers post as that often leads to going of topic. At this point it really just come to people putting their vote where their mouth is because the rest is just "talk" for the sake of talking rather than doing anything that will benefit the platform in the future. https://feedback.secondlife.com/feature-requests/p/make-sharing-account-age-optional

Ah yep, and to no one's surprise on either of the feedback entries ... One of the "usual suspects' is right there to spread their doom and gloom "SL needz tu kep uhp wiff da hep new thingz and listn tu da gaemerz" types.

Here's hoping both entries get the File 13 treatment ...

I think that once we start to get to this stage though, everything useful has probably been said and argued over.  I

Sometimes we get to this stage (of arguing about arguing about arguing) before the topic is actually "done".

In this case, I agree with you.

It is not uncommon for mods to come close a thread with the comment, "this topic has run its course, etc." - but not until we go off-topic for awhile. TBH, I think the "topic has run its course" is a kind type of Forum Topic Euthanasia.

Actually, one of the usual suspects thinks it should remain in the profile yet be inaccessible to scripts so new people can't be banned from places for being under a certain age.

Irony, sometimes those who say the above can be the same ones who say things like, "SL will die because it will never do XYZ", and "Lumiya is best!!1!!".

I am aware that said usual suspect wants it to be unreadable to scripts. There is a reason I phrased my post the way I did - as far as I am concerned it is the exact same thing.

I'm thinking that votes be damned, the more arguing there is over a feedback feature in the comments there, the less likely it will be to be actioned.

You can’t please all of the people all of the time 😁

Instead of arguing about hiding or showing avatar age, why not have the option to show/hide the entire profile?

Or even better lets get rid of profiles entirely. Instead of getting a heads up by checking the profile of that attractive avi you saw across the dance floor, you have to start from square one, zero info, just like real life. Think of the time you’ll waste getting to know someone only to find out you are totally incompatable.

Of course it won’t have any effect for some, mainly those suave gentlemen that enter your ims with “hi, me s*x you?”

😂

Nobody said they couldn't be disagreed with or questioned,  but when you outright act maliciously,  you're gonna get it back. ( not you specifically)

Who is being malicious though? I don't think any of us have been malicious to you.

True that we don't have Profiles in RL, but neither RL nor SL is a club where people are cruising for sexual experience all the time. Even in RL I like to meet new people in groups where we have something in common, be it knitting, cooking, hiking.

In SL I like to see common interests before I waste my time interacting with others @ a more social level. There's only so much time in the day, and Profiles provide a convenient shortcut. I especially examine the groups someone is in to get a better idea of common interests.

Because everybody knows that if LL brought in such a feature it would:

  1. Only work some of the time for some people.
  2. Only work for specific ways of accessing it with lots of workarounds to access them.

Oh and we have such a feature already and it only works for specific ways of accessing the profile:

Hiding account age is pretty pointless as account last names are specific to certain periods of time.

That's right! IIRC, "last names came back", but for years people got "Resident" as their "real" Last Name?

Or, are you referring to "specific" Last Names, and how each was only available for a certain period of time?

This is more than likely in reference to the (useless) fact that prior to the "Resident" last name, Last names were cycled in and out as a certain threshold was hit and that one could (if one was the sort to actually care about such useless things) track down when each Last Name was cycled in and cycled out to have an estimate of how long ago an account was created.

Every once in awhile I run into another 'Bliss', but it's becoming more and more rare. I used to belong to family group with the last name of Bliss, and I've seen a few more family groupings with various last names.

I think one unmentioned reason NOT to hide account age (whether you take this seriously or not)..

Bots that collect the "what are they wearing?" statistics could also collect "account age", which would in theory mean:

- "X percentage of avatars/account (not users) that are below Y age, use Z body/attachment".

This could mean several things:

- Only X% of "old avatars/accounts" use body/attachment Z (therefore, only "experienced users" or "out of touch users" depending on your POV).   Do only older accounts wear body/attachment Z because it is "out of fashion", or preferred by a "younger crowd"?

- Only X% of "new avatars/accounts" use body/attachment Z (therefore, only "alts" or "new users" depending on your POV). Are older accounts "ashamed" to wear body/attachment Z?

So the data is way too open to interpretation, as with most things like this (referring to "account age").

ETA: I am NOT saying that I SUPPORT this data collection. Just providing a "use-case" for it's existence and visibility to scripts.

Peeve: When you have to provide a disclaimer so you don't get "flamed" by usual suspects who take any statement to mean, "you must believe/support it since you 'suggested' it!"
