That would be nice wouldn't it .. @Linden Lab explaining their ToS in a consumer friendly way.

We can't have that, can we?
A ToS needs smoke, mirrors and mystique to cover a companies butt. (Not only in the case of LL)

I doubt they could clear up the parts that are missing, since they don't know either.  But how can they write something clear, when it's all up to their discretion anyway?

Their 2017 Terms Of Service is quite a read in itself.  Greatest piece of butt covering ever.

In a way yes, but when dealing with legalese the wording has to be very specific, to cover their behind.  A poorly worded TOS or communication from LL could incite some of the more litigious members of the community.

But this is what forums are good for, theres always going to be some sicko that reads the whole damn thing TWICE, and can explain it in a human language for us, the legalese illiterate.

Nothing left to do but delete all your Second Life accounts, unfortunately.

They can do that after we ascend off this zoo. Personally, I think your suggestion is silly. Hope and expression are both free, limitless, and eternal. We're stakeholders here, and as long as we're here, let us bend our indomitable will toward elevating life and love. Let your light shine as an enduring beacon or reality may conclude that your heart really isn't in the game.

No matter how many times you post in various threads, the fact is...don't agree, can't log in.  Pretty simple.  You're always allowed to disagree with any company's ToS.  You're also always allowed to not use the services of that company.  Free will and all.

Is that what you believe in spite of everything said? Then go and live according to your creed, but understand that you are only an authority over yourself, if even.

No it's really not that simple.

SL is not a cold zero sum game where we evaluate the return on todays social investment and can opt to disengage without consequence.

Which is true but still beside the point.  Regardless of the issues people have with the ToS as it stands today, you can not log into SL without agreeing to them.  THAT is the only point I've been trying to make in this thread and another when people have asked How To Agree when the Firestorm viewer isn't giving them the ACCEPT button.

ETA.  The same applies if you disagree with the ToS.  Don't accept.

A bill was introduced in the US Congress to make companies do what the OP is asking for. Let's hope it gets turned into law.

It's been stuck in a Senate committee since it was read in the Senate on Jan 13, 2022.  It has until Jan 3, 2023 to go thru  senate sub committees, votes by both houses of Congress, and the President's signature.   It will probably be attached to some spending bill that the Senate will veto if it goes anywhere this year.

It could be summarized in one short line.  "All you have is ours."

It's pretty always much been like that inside SL. Anything sitting in USD not owed to them, isn't. They have to have a reason not to transfer those.. They can't be just like, I just don't feel like giving it to them because they quit..

Now , if we could just get them to do that with laws, rather than having to look through 20,000 pages that get so long that they can shove what they really want passed on the back end.. hehehe

Meanwhile, the bill to end Daylight Saving Time by putting all of the US on DST in 2023, passed the Senate and has since been spinning its wheels in the House.

I'm all for doing away with DST but I am not going to like being on DST for the rest of my life. Bush only made things worse when he extended DST. They need to stop messing with people's circadian rhythms. Disrupting it twice a year is not only detrimental to human health, remaining on DST will screw up people's biological clocks.

For the love of all things human, make it stop and put us all back on normal time!

In time, those that write the legalese might just start making more sense, not only in their wording but in our understanding.

It might sound farfetched but when you start digging, you start seeing just how badly disrupted circadian rhythms can affect whole countries, even the world. It's scary to think it's been allowed to go on for more than half a century.
