Serious peeve: People -- often SLers -- posting explicit pornography and/or images of violence and sexual violence on Twitter without flagging and hiding it.

Twitter permits explicit sexual images. Fine.

But it also provides a tool that posters are supposed to use to ensure that such images are flagged and hidden unless you choose to view them.

I'm sooooo tired of exhibitionists getting off on compelling me to see their pornography.

I did not consent.

I'm not guilty on this one. I don't use Twitter. Or "X", as it's now called. I made an account as Pearl years ago, but I wouldn't even remember how to login anymore.

Me every time I open Flickr.

I gotta say, a lot of this (in general, not Twitter-specific) is why I'm kind of over photography these days. Sharing a platform (Flickr) with some of that content just doesn't feel good. I'm certainly not prudish by any means, but time and place, ya know? Besides, I'm not into violence at all, so I have to be careful when navigating the horror groups that I used to post in. Creepy avatars, yes. Love the creativity. Miss me with the rest of that, tho.

I kind of go through this same thought process when browsing some of the product sales and events and I've asked myself so many times why I'm even willing to be associated with the entire thing (SL). Hence my peeve about hating this time of year. I feel it's somewhat worse around this time for some reason. More spooky, less...whatever that is, plz.

Actually, no, it was a thread where some clueless middle class suburban fad diet fans, knowing nothing about a foreign country than "cows are sacred there" seriously suggested shipping 11 million animals to the other side of the world to "prevent the cruelty of milk production", ignoring the fact that shipping 11 million animals half way round the world is a) impractical, b) excessively cruel, and c) wouldn't be that well received by people iin the target country who suddenly found 11 million foreign cows dumped in their fields.

This sort of thing is actually common in "Animal Rights" nutjobs. Some years back, pig farmers in southern France cross bred large domestic pigs with Wild Boar, hoping to get a hybrid that TASTED like wild boar, but was larger and domesticated.

2 Out of 3 ain't bad, they got the taste, and the large size, but the things were mean as hell.

Then some animal rights nutters raided the farm and released the damn things into the wild.

They were aggressive, weight several hundred pounds each, and ate anything that couldn't get away in time, the French Authorities ended up having to place a bounty on the damn things, to encourage hunters to risk life and limb eradicating the things.

The "Animals are people too" crowd never stopped to think about the effects of releasing a species of 300+ lb, violently aggressive, omnivores into the eco system would have, or the danger posed to the public.

Then there were the PETA pillocks who raided a commercial Mink farm in England, and released large numbers of one of the most vicious small predators known to man into the country side, where they DEVASTATED the local wildlife, including many endangered species.

Country folk HATE suburban fad diet nutters telling them "what's best for  animals" as it's usually wrong.

Not gonna lie, I just hate extreme animal activists in general. The amount of crimes committed on farms, who don't fit the bill of being a factory farm. All to protest some farmer who basically lets the animals graze on an open pasture is absolutely insane.

IKR? We should be eating the rich, not hurting the poor farmer!

Not infrequently, actually.

I don't honestly care whether it's furry porn or not. I don't even mind people posting porn.

I DO care about having my choice to view or not removed.

Honestly, it's a little like a flasher on a subway car. I'm not consenting to be a component of their kink.

I didn't mean furries, I meant humans who are animalistic because of their behavior. Like, posting smut without regard for others.

That happens with the weekend sales galleries, too. One minute you're happily checking for nice things to buy, next minute, BAM! You get hit with an explicit pic, body fluids and all.

Annoying AF.

I've singled out Twitter because that's where i am seeing a lot of this now, but as both Ayashe and Sabrina note, It's not limited to that platform.

There are maybe actually two issues here. The first, which was my main point, is "oversharing" explicit sexual content, often because the sharer gets off on that. That happens here too.

The second is the lack of granularity in most ratings systems. I've argued many times that SL needs to distinguish between sexuality and extreme violence -- and that distinction should be reflected on MP content and sales catalogues. Seeing a nude person, or even a couple having sex, is NOT the same thing as seeing a man choking a naked woman. We should be empowered to have access to sexuality without also being compelled to see content featuring sexual violence.

Flickr, as Ayashe notes, is really bad at this: it's all one or all another. If I have my settings so that I can see an image of a topless woman, it also perforce brings up representations of sexual violence in my stream.

The two are not the same. We should have the choice.

Again, It's about consent.

Even more baffling - it's against Twitter's content guidelines. Sexual whatnot in photos, all good. In video, no. Violence/abuse in any case - no.

I would think that would be the same elsewhere (I haven't checked Flickr's TOS in a minute, admittedly), but um...at least on Twitter, you shouldn't be seeing that at all.

That's interesting, I thought "animalistic" is pretty straightforward - especially since I clarified after Scylla's joke!

It appears that I know nothing about hyperbole. If only there was an expert on hyperbole to provide consistent examples. But alas, I shall have to remain ignorant.

Peeved!

Animalistic - A word that means "Like an animal".

People posting smut on the internet, would ONLY be "animalistic" if it was like something an animal would do. Since animals do not post smut on the internet, people doing that, is NOT "like an animal" and thus, NOT animalistic.

Maybe you should stick to telling un-funny "dad jokes so bad even dads won't tell them".

Hyperbole is an exaggerated statement or claim.  It can be about a true subject but the way it's presented is over the top.  Now, who do we know that does that often?  Just sayin', sometimes it's hard to tell the difference.

Based on all the EXAGGERATED claims of "hyperbole" you make, that would be YOU, right?

Just saying...
