Peeve: For really old implementations of BASIC, there are "Implied Blocks".

Like, "FOR..NEXT" with no BEGIN/END. FOR and NEXT are the implied "Begin Block" and "End Block".

Like humor, I target the "Least Common Denominator" in Programming, too.

Get off my lawn!

Some people think it’s normal for small (and also not so small) dogs to bark continuously. Obviously it isn’t and it is beyond me why the owners would not look into it rather than assume it’s “the way they are”. Stereotypic behavior in any species warrants an investigation and is a sign that something is not quite ok. 😔

I have almost died of shock today. I've had an unusually good day, and the icing on the cake was when a dog trainer arrived and took one of the people from the adjoining house along with their two unruly big dogs out for some kind of socialisation session. The same dog trainer had brought two very well behaved golden retrievers round to the house the previous day and there was a certain amount of mayhem.

The dogs are already two or three years old and I heard the owner say to the trainer "They've never been in a car before so I don't know how they'll be"! They never even take them for walks around the neighbourhood. As much as the dogs annoy me with their barking, I feel sorry for them when they are left in the house to bark and can identify the different types of bark, whether it's because of vehicles coming down the street, the postman or milkman coming down their path, or just shouting out randomly to see if anyone is actually out there

My biggest pet peeve. Is that we enabled the use of AI-generated art for SL ads. I mean it all started with Renders and then renders using morphs. I am looking at you, one company I won't name. Now we have AI-Generated art being considered acceptable for ads. As a consumer I feel that is very sus and would rather an ad done in world, with minimal touch ups.

Peeve: When you have someone from the Forum on ignore (to keep you out of trouble and from poking them), and they send you a long message in-world.

STAHP!!1!!1

Peeve: Logging into Second Life to check out a particular group's details that someone is really having trouble comprehending being allowed at all, and opening a quite massive can of worms.

How Second Life has remained in existence for all these years really surprises me with some of the content. SSome things really are just the tip of the iceberg.

P.S. Thanks Love for the in world message, it came to my email inbox. I have messages disabled here on forums, in order to keep a Blissful silence, as I seek only rays of sunshine really. Keep a doing what you're doing here. Some of us really do appreciate it.

Thank you, you are very nice!

Peeve: Googled how to block someone in-world (if they are not nearby and you don't have messages from them), and Google suggested this as a search result (sorry fellow "Dark Theme" users, I kept the formatting):

Why Did Second Life Fail? Second Life failed to become a mass-market product because the game has an extremely high learning curve, it suffered from frequent platform meltdowns, due to consistent copyright infringements, and unrealistic expectations.

I did not see a "date" on the article so looked up the "page source", saw it was published 12-16-2022.

Article was at: https://productmint.com/what-happened-to-second-life.

PEEVED.

That's quite kind compared to the reasons I usually see in various gaming spaces whenever someone brings SL up. 😏

My more obvious Peeves about it are:

- It says "Why Did Second Life Fail?" as if SL is gone, kaput, out of business, etc. This could mislead potential users.

- It came up as a suggested search result in a completely unrelated Google search.

I suppose someone could make the argument that it failed in some way or another. That doesn't necessarily mean the doors are officially closed. Given the question is answering why it "failed to become a mass-market product," I could see it.

Standard operating procedure for Google.

Hey Mari, that's a first step I suppose at least they're recognizing they need help with training their dogs. Some people don't even get there. I hope the dogs get the help they need and in turn I hope your life gets a little better too.🌞

I am not a small animal vet but I do help in the smallies from time to time, and as many vets can attest (looking @Cinnamon Mistwoodat you Cinn 🙂 ) it's usually not the big dogs we are wary of. Occasionally, there are some very reactive big dogs but by and large is the small ones who will nip if they can. I blame social media for a lot of the wrongs we see. Brachycephalic animals keep being bred because people love handbag dogs with squishy faces. Puppy farms exist because people keep wanting designer dogs or breeds they can't afford. People keep buying dogs as accessories or Xmas presents and then realize that there's a lot of work involved. So they get surrendered. Or dumped. Or worse.

Don't get me wrong, there is a lot of stupid stuff happening in the horse world too (I am talking from my experience in this part of the world) with people breeding from the same lines and ending up with awful genetic conditions. Does that stop them breeding from those lines? Nope. Why? Because people like the color, the paces, the pedigree lines on the passport.

The more suffering I see in animals the more I hate humans 😞

Thanks, someone showed me how to find Mute/Block in the Profile "Actions" dropdown.

Before I knew about that, I was able to do it from the IM they sent me. (Right-click option on the user name in the chat.)

For the worst ones, I just do it preemptively.

My post was not addressing anything you said. I didn't even quote you. I specifically stated, "The article". The very first two words of my post.

Please stop doing this.

Sure! I merely do not understand what you were saying by your post, so the easiest response is that perhaps we did not understand one another.  That is entirely possible, since my reply was due to what I perceived as ambiguity in what you posted.

Here is my understanding:  It was Google that was providing the Article as if it were an answer to a "different question" ("Why did Second Life Fail"?) than the article actually was discussing ("Why did Second Life Fail as a Mass..etc.").

The source of my confusion is:  I do not know "who" you reference by the comment below, "And people say I don't understand what I read", which implies "someone may not understand what they read" in the context of what I posted:

Are you referencing "people who may take the Google answer and assume the article answers the question 'Why did Second Life Fail', when clearly it did not"?

If so, I definitely would agree that those people may have a reading comprehension issue.  However, I blame Google - as most people (myself included) are lazy and assume (at least, hope) that Google is answering the question shown.

Thanks in advance!
