Last I saw fetlife will allow the images, the question is orginization. If you just want to toss images out for show it works. Orginizing into albums I am not sure its there YET. I know its in the planning stage. Another thing is who can see it. Some Fet users will be very interested espcially the SL Fet folks but any images posted on fet show up in the lastest posting wall. Agin comes down to audience control.
Rowan Amore
Just an update...Flickr is now offering a different level beside full membership. I don't have ALL the details but this is what it says...$30 less per year than regular Pro. Flickr Ad-Free will be a new subscription option which offers you an ad-free browsing experience for $3.49/month. This service will not include other features of Flickr Pro, such as unlimited storage and advanced stats.
UnilWay SpiritWeaver
Where do we stand in terms of good alternatives? I have looked into newtumbl but it doesn't tell you if anyone is even viewing your stuff and it's feed and dashboard seem to time out on every use rather than display anything... Has something surfaced which actually works and lets you know if you or anyone else has any level of engagement?

It functions similarly to flickr. I have a newTumbl account but haven't used it much. I have a tiny bit of SL stuff on a RL DeviantArt account. Thinking of creating a SL DA, but I paid $ for a 2 year flickr pro account a few months ago, so not yet... but DA is great as it's not limited to photography as flickr is (mostly, the addition of uploading video clips there is a recent development). That could help attract viewers who aren't into SL I would think. 1

Twitter timeline goes by so fast that people only likely see for a brief instant. but with Flickr and Deviant art, you can direct people to entire galleries of your work.
PekeNL
So how is deviantart working out for people? Is it actually a decent alterative or is it mostly that the main brands of SL continue on Flickr because they can afford the premium?

It's also the huge SL community that keeps me aboard. Even if I was limited to a free account, I'd keep my flickr going because of the huge SL community that's established itself over time, one that is the biggest outside of SL itself as far as I know. (It's also the same for anyone on Open Sim BTW. Many more of the OS pics exist on flickr as well.)

I've little need to view it for other people's works as I can find plenty to view on flickr and a few other places. Of course if I do find something from twitter that leads me back to flickr, that's great!
leannamaisl
Pretty sure I am done with FLickr. Account suspended and now they are forcing me to remove any photos showing any cleavage for frontal shots or skin above the thigh if I show an avatar from behind. Not paying for a service that does this amount of censorship to any of its members. Edited September 22, 2022 by leannamaisl
Marigold Devin
I gave up on Flickr many years ago. They still send me regular emails though saying I am in "violation" of not removing the excess photos and my account is at risk of being deleted. Delete away is what I say. "Violation" indeed. Did I kill their mother?! As for an alternative site on which to post, I am lost about that. I just save anything I feel is worth saving - and a heck of a lot that isn't - to storage sticks for now. I started an Instagram account, but then remembered I'm no longer 15 years old!

What bothers me about the new Flickr TOS is not whether or not I can afford to get it, but that if I ever stop paying for it because I'm not using it that month / year - they will delete all of my Moderate and Restricted stuff. So I could buy an account now and pay for it, but the moment I step away, everything I ever put up will get zapped. Imagine if in SL, anytime you stopped paying for your premium, they didn't just take away your linden home, they deleted your avatar's entire inventory. That's the new Flickr. So I went and 'deleted' my inventory first, on my own, on my terms where I could at least download it all for safekeeping. Now I just have to find somewhere to put it again. Somewhere that will at least archive it if not just restrict my ability to add to it were I to stop paying, rather than flat out delete it all.

I keep backups of anything I upload online. I upload to several accounts: flickr, newTumbl, DeviantArt, gyazo, twitter, MeWe and sometimes tumblr. flickr is the site I use the most. I think many photo sites are beginning to follow (or are already following something similar to) the LL/flickr model, and to me that does suck the life out of things but they do need to make their $$pr0f1t$$$ *shrug*. Just keep your backups handy and stable, I guess!

leannamaisl
Also the "Virtual Photography" category update is basically censorship by segregation. Already know a few people who have been suspended, for not categorizing their post as such. This includes some people with Pro/paid accounts that I have chatting with since having all my issues with Flickr. If you want even more of a reason to leave, read how both other flickr members and staff view "virtual photographers" on their forums.
PekeNL
Honestly. Since none of the 'alternatives' seems to suit the needs of people and they all go to different platforms.. Tiara Blossom
I can confirm Slushe has no real interest in hosting SecondLife content. (I am Vanessa.. you should see me in the discord.) I however have been working on a Flickr alternative called https://gridlife.online . It's launched and ready for users. It is nsfw friendly and the only things I do not allow are already illegal. I also plan to run monthly events and do artist of the week type stuff. This is a serious passion project for me If you have any questions, please do not be afraid to ask. Since then I havent seen any of the more talented artists post there. 95% of the SL related content in Slushe is adult orientated, and while I don't mean to be rude but the content is blatant and poorly made, from people who'd flood their Flickr profiles with hundreds if not thousands of screenshots rather than artworks, exceeding the initial limitation of 1000 photos for free accounts. That has been there since day one. As a private service provider they can implement whatever terms of service they seem fit and they haven't cracked down hard on their TOS since they implemented them. To this day I still see moderate and very restricted photos posted by free accounts without any actions being taken. A real artist will not care that much where they share their work, nor will get offended because some online platform updates their terms of service. There are plenty of alternatives out there. Let's not forget that Flickr is not image hosting platform for Second Life, but for all kinds of artist. The Second Life community on Flickr is a but of small portion of all the users that share there. Let's not think that any decisions they have made in the past or will make in the future are directed towards us. P.S, I'm not defending Flickr, I'm sick and tired of people complaining how a freaking private hosting platform that hosts the art of people of all ages decided they don't want some free users that don't want to pay a dime posting porn on it.
