How Does Your SL Look Today?

I am enjoying the National Blab. I think if the hope is to elicit comment and discussion then it does NOT belong in this thread... and comments are part of the fun. But I don't have a good suggestion for where to put the Blab. So... here will do.

Now that I am looking at this image... wrong dress. I'll have to borrow a dress from Victoria.

Regular LL viewer

I was having issues with PBR in firestorm and just jumped back over to the regular viewer, which solved those issues, but has its own new ones.

But firestorm hasn't released a PBR version yet.

Playing around in my house again

Snapshot_143.thumb.png.e509ce0e5a244da78767f17c73b7063b.png

I've been goofing around with various settings, and enjoying the results.  I really need to pull my poor kittycat out of the second dimension, back into our third though.  He keeps passing through the walls and trying to escape my parcel, I should limit the range a bit more on him but like to see him wandering around the house when he is 3d.

I was going to try to get some sleep (and a nap in real life)

Snapshot_147.thumb.png.7fe8d00973cbd08185919b33c2d3faee.png

But then the caffeine kicked in, and I decided to jump on my bed for a bit instead.

I wonder if people ever drive by my house and see me doing these sorts of things, while I am AFK

Bleh, my lights are bleeding through my walls.

/me rides by on her bicycle with several friends and her eyes widen as she sees someone jumping on their bed through an open window.  The entire group stops to admire your form and grace while jumping - pointed toes!  Graceful arm movements!

We all hold up Perfect 10 signs before riding on.

Another thread sparked my interest, so now I'm playing around with reflection probes, and the environment settings:

This is fun, and the furthest I have played around with lighting in SL before.

Snapshot_161.thumb.jpg.aca2bd631b4d601d2567ee6f52c84608.jpg

I have the reflection probes highlighted, so they appear as yellow boxes, the reflection probe is above my makeshift home, it is pretty bright in my flintstones home at the moment.

Snapshot_160.thumb.jpg.b75dc38ed4586b7897f052c282c28193.jpg

I've adjusted the ambience to 0.0 in the probe, then lowered it over my prim home so  it gets darker.

Snapshot_162.thumb.jpg.5c3eea212b5b4294c1cc6b57304c5e6c.jpg

Now a probe in a probe.. I should have made them domes, then I could have made the joke the dome within the dome.  This one has a higher ambience.

Snapshot_163.thumb.jpg.f58d6cbaf4f29aeda7795ba5490310f0.jpg

With the reflection probes hidden from sight. You can see I am sort of half within the newer and smaller probe.  I think this will be great for people with artificial pools, caves, whatever.  I only wish we had the option to make it more murky, that would be pretty sweet.

Just for the fun of it, a probe, within a probe, within another probe

Your post has inspired me!

I plan to try this in a cave. Hopefully, my caves don't all already have built-in lights that I can't remove.

A little PBR viewer fun. This is an elven apartment rental so I have no say about the walls and windows (nor the fullbright magenta runes, grr), but I did install a reflection probe with Ambiance at 3.0. Shot just before sunset to show the light from the window in an otherwise dark interior, just a few flickering candles and red glow from the cooking fire. It's cool to watch the sunlight/shadows lengthen as the sun sets.

Enjoying playing around with probes still, and also looking at reflections in mesh water.

ref.thumb.png.89fcb51b61af884fe5d898c101a8d41f.png

The screenshot built into the LL viewer doesn't capture avatar reflections, so I had to take a snapshot of the desktop.

Snapshot_176.thumb.png.59493b1448309e6bf0b3324bc0de65f5.png

The above is the difference in lighting, it is harder to notice because I had shaded the sides of my pool a darker gray.

modded.thumb.png.c6ce312219f361277d4f36bd3887a01e.png

I copied the bottom of the prim in GIMP, and pasted it for a comparison next to the portion of the prim elevated above the reflection probe to get a better idea of how much of a difference it made.

It doesn't capture any reflections at all?!? Or just water reflections?

And what is this that our virgin ears have heard? COULD it be TRUE?

That's weird, to have the new features but fail to put it in screen shots! LOL!!

I think avatar reflections at this point are a bug, so perhaps they are intentionally left out from regular screenshots.  Usually I only get a glimpse of my avatar, at an angle shot.

I did figure out though, that I can use the built in screen capture from LL's viewer, I just have to check the "interface" checkbox and my image is rendered.

If anyone wants to make a reflective prim, here is how you do it:

First just make a prim

one.thumb.png.0a3d580e6d8d2f36b59b773b46070bdd.png

From the edit window, change the material to PBR Metallic Roughness

two.thumb.png.2a2d61da30f37aa82a61d02a4e66f965.png

Change the texture to "Blank"

three.thumb.png.13eddc13f7f8b2616301ac7f2cea9d61.png

Click "Edit Selected"

four.thumb.png.b702a6f946f87c5867fd9ee246ff14c5.png

From the Editing Material window, change the roughness factor to zero

 ------------------------

If you want to get a reflection of yourself, I find that angling your camera to the side of a flat mirror will display your avatar, you'll have to fiddle around with your camera quite a bit, and the image usually does not come out very well.

Snapshot_189.thumb.png.e33b331535c7cebde9a7e8974de5fa72.png

howtosnappy.png.dfedde62061501e38d4ca8e1427949e5.png

If you want to get a screenshot that includes your avatar, in the snapshot window select the interface checkbox.  For me, doing so otherwise will not include the avatar.  Be sure to edit the image to remove any bits you don't want people to see.

-------------------

Now if your mirror is acting up, does not show the reflection correctly you may need to create a reflection probe, which I explain here:

Adjust the probe until you get the reflection you want.

cropped.png.c6c591bba7e177a8393a81da0ed86595.png

Above you can see a before and after.  Without the reflection probe covering my mirror it does not quite work out right.  After I cover a portion of the mirror with the probe, it starts to look better.  You'll need to adjust the probe to get the desired results, as you move the probe around and resize it, you will see the image in the reflection change.

If you want to remove the PBR material, from the edit window under Material, select  PBR Metallic Roughness and change the material to "none"

Secrets?

I have no "secrets" . . .

I'm an open book.

This really sounds like a bug (that you have to include the interface option). Have you considered filing a JIRA? We're supposed to for unexpected PBR behavior...
