Is there a website which tracks members and online-stats for Second Life and other grids?

I would imagine you would need to contact the grids websites for most of that info.. http://opensimulator.org/wiki/Grid_List

That list has a grid list with users statistics. But you should be able to access each website from there. Hard telling what grids offer statistics scraping

Linden lab stopped a lot of stuff. Not even a community convention this year lol.and some of the API's that served the statistics have been disabled i beleive. List of Data Feeds here http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Live_Data_Feeds

So you will not find the data feeds that you are looking for except the ones LL allows to be read thru their feed.... they will all have the same thing

As others have mentioned, much of the economic metrics previously available have been disabled by LL but Tyche Sheppard who runs the gridsurvey website also has an interesting weekly report over on SLU that might be of interest to you.  Tyche has the most comprehensive, independent information publicly available that I'm aware for SL.

IMVU is not smaller than SL.  At any given time, they have maybe double SL's concurrency.  And they have a tremendous amount of purchaseable content.

However, SL has a great deal more functionality than IMVU, and more realism.  For example, you can't walk or fly in IMVU, only click to move your avatar from one position to another.  And there is no way to physically travel from one region ("rooms", in IMVU) to another.  They aren't physically connected, and you can only "teleport" from one room to another.  There are no inworld building tools, and created content is subject to approval and/or censorship by the company.

Yes, the last thing I remember was their quarterly report a year ago, saying that registrations were up 40%.

If you read more though, you found that in-world hours were on a downward trend. The release of totally different Viewer 2 (even menus moved and renamed) split the community of support in-world, and made newbies less welcome. imho.

Wow, very interesting, Lindal. Sounds like chat rooms in boxes...

As mentioned by others, look for reports from Tyche Sheppard; they are the most accurate. Linden Lab no longer provides any data on their grid which may seem odd but is in line with their recent move to operate Second Life as a game platform. Of course if you ask anyone that has been in SL for a while and paid attention to grid statistics, Linden Lab's reports were always questionable and often suggested "creative interpretation" of the numbers. If you are looking for this information as a guide to possible business ventures, I would recommend staying away from SL or any MMO/MMOG for right now. A huge majority are in decline and there are other virtual opportunities that look safer to enter. Whether SL is declining as fast or faster than others is impossible to say without Linden Lab offering their financial reports, but most residents "feel" it is slipping much faster this year compared to the previous three.

Hi, I'd like to reactivate this topic because no one of the provided links are today offering updated economical stats. Do you know if there is any other user or website providing economical info of SL? Thanks a lot.

I've been doing some Google research looking for SL statistics, but there is few information and the one provided is outdated. You can ge some info here http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Live_Data_Feeds but I miss some data offered in the past by http://gridsurvey.com/index.php related to "Total square meters sold by residents" or "Average L$ paid per square meter".

I dont know why this information is not publicly available from Linden as it was years ago. I'm returning SL from a long stop with some projects in mind and I'd like to get as more information as possible about SL economy.

FWIW, economic data from Tillia: https://secondlife.com/my/lindex/market.php

and http://gridsurvey.com/ (someone else mentioned it, but they put it in a spoiler-like block)(the site is super slow to load for me) (edit: it was mentioned in 2012, I hadn't read up. . .)

Topic is from 2012, these need to be auto locked.

I think this is one of the few times where necroing is quite acceptable; more or less "This information is old, is it still correct?" is a reasonable continuation of an old discussion, and there's an argument to be made that having up-to-date info at the end of an old thread is useful for people who might find the old rather than a potential new thread when searching for the information.
