  1. I have never paid more then 1$L/sq.m, and I've never been able to sell land for more then 0.8$L/sq.m. If it's protected roadside or protected water side land then it'll probably go for a little more, maybe 4$L/sq.m, but if you frequently do a lot of searching you'll likely find such land abandoned for $1L/sq.m especially towards the end of the month when people are getting desperate to get their tier down. Land in more famous areas like Bay City will be really expensive.
  2. I was a super stubborn V1 (Phoenix and Imprudence) user for quite a while till I finally gave FireFox a try. Though beta I've had next to no problems with FireFox and everything I've seen in mesh is far better then their sculpty conterparts, the mesh loads far quicker and shows far less defects. I'm not too worried about the numbers of people holding out against mesh enabled viewers, for every stubborn old fart like me who switches to a mesh enabled viewer there must be a ton of others that have already switched.
  3. I'm not seeing them, using FireFox 3.0.9. In tools->options there is a box to click to block pop-ups
  4. It's my guess that LL restricted surnames to Resident so that SL will feel like one large happy family ... one large crossbreeding family
  5. It's bad enough that government messes with our time, making us switch to DST and back, but then they go and change the dates when we switch to and from DST and now a lot of our electronic devices can't do the DST change automatically. Set the DVR to record Star Trek, end up with some stupid sitcom instead.
  6. OK, this is my practical experience with mesh. Shopping around for a really nice car and pretty much all of them I saw were sculpty, and up close most of these sculpty cars looked down right awful, and add to that having to wait in the show room for all those sculpties to rez. I did find some sculpty cars that were really well done, but zoom in close and it took no time to find at least one really bad defect. Then I went to a place that had some cars done in mesh sitting among their regular sculpty cars, the mesh cars were rezzed almost immediately while the rest was still sculpty globs slowly forming, and on the mesh cars I couldn't find any of the ugly distortions that are so easy to find on sculpties. Having to use an out-world app to create mesh? Have to do that with sculpties anyways, and without the limitations of sculpties mesh may be easier. And for a mesh capable viewer I'm using Firestorm and have no problems with it, and there are several other viewers available that can view mesh.
  7. Often I've just opened the world map and teleported to places that look like they might be interesting, though often it doesn't turn out to be very interesting up close I've come across a lot of surprises.
  8. Message in a bottle: Crash while driving your car across a sim crossing then having the vehicle autoreturned to you from a location three sims away from where you crashed Broken bottle: Make an attempt to find that lost vehicle only to find several vehicles lost by others to forever hang over land with no autoreturn set. Be an old fart: Complain about something new and vow to never use it (And I have to confess to this one)
  9. Kylie Jaxxon wrote: Hi Knutz, maybe "comparable" is not the correct word Bottom line...those other places are half empty, inhabited by mostly computer geeks (I mean this nicely,) not for the run of the mill type players. Until you can or if transfer inventory over there, they are useless, IMO. As they stand now, they can't give LL a run for their money. What you're saying is true at present, what I'm saying is that LL doesn't want to wait till another grid starts up ad campaigns like "Three times the prims, third of the price" and "Bugs before shinnies", before changing their ways. I know plenty of SL content creators setting up shop on other grids, they're seeing enough people there to make it worth the effort, and outrageous region prices is only one of many things LL is doing to drive people away.

Kylie Jaxxon wrote: People are just fed up There has been debacle after debacle from LL in the 4 years I've been here They really have to consider themselves lucky that there is nothing comparable out there or they would have went under years ago. I would argue there are plenty of OpenSim grids, and similar, out there that if not comparable to SL now could be soon. At least one I know of has delayed implementation of voice and physics and such till they have solved more fundamental problems such as stability and scalability. You'd be hard pressed to find an OS grid that charged anywhere near $295/month for a full region, and one can download and setup an OS server on their own machine where they can play around with as many regions they want for free.

I meant "spam" as a meat substitute. I can't believe that came from any sort of animal, at least a healthy one, though many insist on telling me otherwise.
  12. HA! I've got several emails in my spam folder from foreigners wanting to move their millions into my accounts , kinda funny those emails ended up in a folder named after a meat substitute. I've gotta deal with a couple of emails from my banks and credit cards first though requiring personal information in order to keep my accounts active. SO LONG SUCKERS! Amazing what email and internet can do to people's lives.
  13. I have had mainland overlooking beachs and currently some road side mainland, none have I paid more then 1 L$/sq.m and the most I have managed to sell off land for was 0.8 L$/sq.m, most I had to come down to 0.5 L$/sq.m and a threat to abandon it to get lookers to buy. I'm obviously not much of a land investor. Near month's end the map seems to erupt with new yellow squares, mostly parcels just abandoned and put back on sell by Gov Linden for 1 L$/sq.m, probably abandoned by people just wanting to get their tier down before the next month. I've seen several parcels for sell for more then 1 L$/sq.m, and I've seen very few actually sell and can't help wondering how much the seller is losing in tier payments. In short, the only land I own is for my own enjoyment, and I do NOT see land in SL as a good place for investment. ETA: This was suspose to be in response to the OP, guess I hit the wrong Reply button

Just to clarify, I'm the one that was trying to use a messed up Linden bush and Josh is the one that made the good shrub to replace the messed up one. So all the credit belongs to Josh.

The HUD wearer will then have to reapply the animation."
  17. When you get griefed, and if you spend any time in SL you WILL get griefed, it's fun to just sit (so they can't move you) and admire the special effects they throw at you and maybe even comment like how cute you think their hell hounds are. (And by all means AR them)
  18. The Pontiac Solstice is the first car I've tried, I picked it up as a freebie at the vehicle market area at the vehicle sandbox. Had fun playing around with it on the race track doing burn outs and drifting and such, but on mainland roads it was a mess. Even with the car set to manual and stuck in first gear hit a sim crossing with mismatched sim versions and there was nothing for me to do but to sit back an watch the car do aerial acrobatics. For cruising and site seeing having to fluctuate the forward key while steering just doesn't work for me, it works great for me in RL with a gas peddle and steering wheel but it's too much to deal with on the keyboard. That's why I'm looking for something like a cruise control. When I've got the chance I'll check out your suggestions, cruising on a bike can not be worse then cruising in a taxi
  19. When buying mainland and later on you change your mind, don't count on being able to sell it for any where near what you paid for it, chances are you'll have to just abandon it to Governor Linden.
  20. Thanks a bunch Josh, can't wait to try these out inworld when I get home tonight.
  21. Wouldn't just clicking "mute" take care of the notifications. Probably too simple to work, but I'm curious.
  22. In case the person asking for help is still around after the two major derails .... I have often tried viewers V2 and V3 and anything after ver 2.5 crashes on me on teleport. I go back to Phoenix and the teleport problem is gone. No fussing with my DNS or firewall or whatever, just switched to the Phoenix viewer. Also hear lots of good things about Firestorm, and there are plenty of other third party viewers to try. ".... and my character immediately starts shouting something about punishment and God ..." If I read this correctly, if it is indeed YOUR character shouting this, then I think you have worn or attached something to yourself that is doing the shouting. If this is the case then look in the worn section of your inventory and start dettaching and removing items till the shouting stops. I could be wrong, and if so one of the older players will surely correct me on this, but that is my gut feeling.
