  1. They can afford a few L$ for new accounts teaching other noobs, something on the order of what residents earn by fishing or camping. How much is a new account worth to Linden Labs? Every resident has a dollar value over their lifetime.
  2. SL is one of the more expensive free games. Not everyone has a couple thousand USD to drop on a new PC with a powerful graphics card. Even that won't get rid of all the lag; just some of it. The Lindens could address this at the beginning by paying noobs L$ to teach other, even new noobs. So the noobs build community by helping each other.
  3. Maybe they really want to know, is how to grind so that they don't have to put real money into the game.
  4. If something is worth doing, it's worth getting paid to do it.
  5. A single day for Halloween is sufficient. Now that's settled, let's talk about Christmas.
  6. Someone influenced the Lindens to bring back last names. I think it was the intelligentsia.
  7. Snow comes across as conceited. Here are some examples of musicians that practiced science and math on the side while juggling a successful music career: Bryan Holland of the band Offspring has a PhD in molecular biology. Brian May, guitarist of Queen, has a PhD in astrophysics. Mira Aroyo of Ladytron was enrolled as a PhD student at Oxfored in genetics. There are many other examples if you care to look.
  8. People educated in the hard sciences are included in intelligentsia, such as physicist Andre Sakharov of the former Soviet Union.
  9. Technically, dig potatoes. Potatoes are at the root of the plant and grow underground, so you cannot pick potatoes. You have to dig the potatoes up. I think the key to being a coffee house intellectual, is to have strong opinions about economics, foreign relations, politics, science policy, philosophy and other subjects and be willing to argue those positions exhaustively.
  10. I think the intelligentsia's job is to drink and coffee and know things. Intelligentsia are basically coffee house intellectuals.
  11. There are two groups for intelligentsia in SL. Just search for "intelligentsia" in groups.
  12. What if you IM and get an auto response that says the avatar has activated busy mode? That happens a lot at busy sims.
  13. I think this is the problem, too many people AFK. Looks like a giant AFK place MOST OF THE TIME. I think Linden Labs should fix this by teleporting AFK people to a cornfield and getting them out of a busy sim. It's absurd to waste resources in a busy sim on AFK avatars that detract from the social experience.
  14. Try wearing glasses next time. Some guys like a girl that reads.
  15. I totally ignore and add them to my block list. What do they think this place is, some sort of virtual 3D world where people socialize by chatting?
  16. What's worse, sexville or sadville? Definitely sadville. People will login to see what sexville is about, but they won't bother to have a look at sadville.
  17. I have 625 entries in my block list. An entry in a friends list is temporary, but an entry on a block list is forever.
  18. It's not size, it's power that corrupts.
  19. You definitely over reacted, and jumped straight to organizing an attack mob. This thread should be locked and deleted.
  20. Question No. 1: How could the sex be made more realistic in Second Life?
  21. The traditional way to celebrate a rez day in SL is to make love with a beautiful stranger. Since you didn't know, you missed out. Don't worry, if you're a traditionalist, there's always next year.
  22. Happy rez day. Are you aware of the traditional way to celebrate your rez day in SL?
