  1. The thing is, it just feels terrible to get punished for spending money in-world. It's hard to imagine what else they could monetize though, beyond basic users. Maybe the better way would be to encourage spending. For example, I'd imagine heavily discounted homestead sims or land would bring in a lot of money, at least, from people who wouldn't get land otherwise. And the available space is both practically endless and cheap now that we're on AWS.
  2. There are frequent complaints about LL correcting linden balances due to fraudulently obtained L$ in Merchants forum. So presumably yes.
  3. On the other hand it'd be the kind of money-making venture I'd be entirely good with. They already get a lot of income from premium users, after all
  4. 7.5? Good lord. That is quite the hike. You know though, reduced linden buy fees would be a good perk for your loyal premium customers. 😛
  5. All I can really say is our experiences on that appear to be entirely different? Oh well, varying mileages and all that.
  6. If I walk down a street and see a cheeseburger ad, I say "oh, one of those would taste good". They're selling that taste, not a picture-perfect burger, and I know that. As for photos taken in SL, well, at least then I know I can make it look like that on me given the world I'm purchasing it in. That's the difference, it's more representative.
  7. I'd disagree with the cheeseburger thing since a cheeseburger is mostly about taste. If it visually matches the ad doesn't matter as long as it tastes as expected. Things in SL are purely about looks, though, so ideally I personally want pictures taken in SL and not photoshopped for things I buy. That's not to say it's necessarily false advertising if a photo is taken elsewhere or spruced up, but it makes me suspect it is, which makes me more critical.
  8. What would help is to name and shame the spam vendors. Sadly the rules prevent that. I have at least three stores and one event that will endlessly spam me about new releases, even when told not to. Reports, of course, do nothing.
  9. Renters have no rights on SL, like others have said, which is why most SL landlords act like this. Why not, after all, when they face no consequences? I always recommend against renting, since it's not like it's cheap either. Assuming you get the lowest stipend, that's 300 * 52 = 15600 lindens per year. or 65 dollars. So the real cost of Premium is actually 99 - 65 = 34 per year, equaling ~8200 lindens. Any rental you find would then have to be ~157 lindens or less per week, per 1024 plot, to be cheaper than premium. I've never, ever seen rentals that cheap.
  10. Ain't that the truth. I've love to actually wear the Legacy (the shape *is* pretty fantastic) but I know for sure if too many people wear it around me I'll just have to start derendering to retain any acceptable FPS. Which means others will just derender me in turn, and thus all those extra smooth curves go wasted. Desperately needs some kind of optimization. I bet it'd still look perfect with the polycount halved, or maybe quartered.
  11. What might be interesting as an additional thing is to specifically examine the height difference between humans and furries. In my experience, humans tend to be some ~20 cm taller on average. But what the sociological explanation for that would be I have no idea. I did fill in the survey either way though! 1.78 meters/female, here.
  12. I find myself strangely nostalgic for enormous brutalist apartment buildings, having grown up in that kind of area (granted, not in Russia, but still) I wonder, if they made this a real theme - limited to perhaps one sim, and each apartment far enough from the neighbours that you can't hear them - would anyone actually live there?
  13. SL does have a long history of cringy warning sign last names. "GossipGirl" goes without saying, but we also had "Hax" and "Oh" as dedicated griefer names back in the day. Or the very recent "Covfefe".
  14. Basically, deformers are exaggerated animations! There's a decent summary on the old forums. http://forums-archive.secondlife.com/52/7e/333435/1.html I'm mainly sharing that tidbit because I dislike the idea of secret knowledge (especially since it's common on the furry side of SL), so do feel free to play around with it yourself. The Legacy "deformers" however are not deformers in that sense. They're just different mesh attachments made to look like the Maitreya body.
  15. Plantpets seem to sell pretty well but there's no real community around them. Still, i like my low effort plants.
  16. I barely notice a difference in textures unless zoomed in uncomfortably close. Closer than you'd ever be unless taking closeup shots, really... And due to that I don't think they're worth upgrading to unless the models themselves are a subjective upgrade too.
  17. I do mean modifiable, as in the checkbox, so I can, for example, retexture or alpha out bits and pieces.
  18. Hello! I'm always on the quest to try on entirely too many hairstyles on SL, but I've ran into a kind of issue; almost everything I find is no mod, and therefore no buy. What I'd like to do is to tap into the forums hivemind for suggestions on shops that actually tick that modify box. So far I have, basically, no.match and eXxEsS. Magika and Truth used to be modifiable but changed it a while ago, so anything new is restricted. Any other recommendations, fellow SL-ers?
  19. Well that explains why I couldn't find any decent nail appliers for it. The selection of paints is really kind of anemic. But I suppose slapping even more high res textures on the body's more important for the developers.
  20. Hm, that's not my experience. Most people I meet are in their 30s, which I'd dearly hope doesn't make us elderly... 😰
  21. I buy modifiable clothing so I can alpha out clipping faces or retexture it if required in order to layer it... But that's probably not realistic for the average user. A lot of single creators have a lot of intercompatible bits, though. Kaithleen's comes to mind (and their things are also modifiable) with, for example, separate bras to wear under thing items. Blueberry can kind of do it, though there's clipping sometimes. The best option is often to just buy a pre-layered outfit, as boring as that is...
  22. As long as there's anyone with interest in virtual worlds and literally no real competition, rather!
  23. I do usually wear underwear personally. I'm not sure entirely why, I guess I just like it! Always BoM though so I can save some rendering power, with appliers/layers you might as well wear full mesh.
  24. Yet Another Overpriced No Mod Body. We need an acronym for these at this point. YAONMB... no, hmh, maybe not. Either way, just one more body for the pyres. I do wonder if the human population of SL will ever figure out how to check that "modify" box.
  25. My avatar is already me. You know, like an avatar. It doesn't necessarily look the same, but it's the same person that I am otherwise. If you'd like to get philosophical, think about reaching into a pool of water, for example, to interact with something on the bottom. Are you hiding the rest of your body? Is the hand reaching into the pool not as much you as the rest, even if it's the only part of you that a fish would ever see?
