  1. Firestorm has always been a little slower than the default viewer, or most other third party options. I've always taken it as just the price to pay for all the extra features, since everyone I talk with notices the same when comparing. By some 5 FPS.
  2. Purely the account? 500 stipend cutoff point or earlier, I think. Basically, free premium, or literally free with the lifetime membership. Including the user? Then yeah, one that both knows the old stuff and how things work now.
  3. One might enter a younger birthdate thinking it'd be the age of their character.
  4. The lindens will probably change the birthdate if asked, but they might request scans of passports or such.
  5. I do apologize for my eagerness to ask rather than read, but my eyes start glazing over after a few pages of... topics approached in the way that they are, in this thread.
  6. What exactly is this FPS-draining water-rendering checkbox that I hear people mention? Which setting?
  7. The other take is that it's less "I can" and more "Does no harm". Music piracy isn't stealing since the creator doesn't lose anything, and virtual intrusions aren't break-ins because nothing is damaged or stolen. That is simply different in a digital environment, objectively speaking, if perhaps not subjectively. They still feel the same for a lot of people, which one does also need to consider.
  8. Once animesh has had a animatpition keyed in, it keeps doing that until a script tells otherwise. It's actually rather light. The render cost, yeah, possibly. It shouldn't have to be high, but in this age of million-polygon bodies, maybe that's wishful thinking.
  9. Depends. Theoretically I prefer rigged if it's actually rigged well and works on my head. A lot of the ones I've found don't work even on big name human heads like lelutka. Instead they float a little above it. At that point I'd prefer flexi for long hairstyles. In practice, I tend to mostly use unrigged, since that'll always fit, one way or another. I'm just wondering where all the animesh hair is... That'd combine a lot of the positives of both approaches.
  10. It might just be the snow but this looks like a (ski) lodge to me with the low decorative fence and the style... I'd not enter personally but it doesn't automatically register as a private home, at least without knowing what the rest of the sim is like. Different cultures all have different mental images of what a private home looks like, I think. That and this is SL where it has to be made more obvious.
  11. Not to be a contrarian, but if you have over 500 people who waltz into your SL home, I'm thinking it's not clearly designated as private. Over some 14 years of owning a virtual home I've had maybe a handful of surprise visitors. There is always the option of just restricting access if it's that important and you find no other way of making it obvious.
  12. Generally when a skin (and especially a face) looks unusually realistic, it's been photoshopped. Lots of creators do that. I believe it's called "morphing" in SL. Hard to say without seeing the specific ads though.
  13. Least favorite holiday song? Do They Know It's Christmas. Every time I hear the song I notice something more that annoys me. And like Santa Claus, I keep a list. The song is about Ethiopia, which is more christian than the UK. They definitely know it's Christmas. In addition there's Sting singing "Where the only water flowing / Is the bitter sting of tears" which is grossly self-referential and indulgent, and there's the saint of pretension, Bono, doing the "Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you" bit. And on top of all that, the latter star could probably feed all of Ethiopia alone with how rich he is, and beg-songs by extremely rich people get me going like nothing else! Oh, and "where nothing ever grows, no rain or rivers flow" as if the entirely of Africa was a lifeless wasteland.
  14. About 5000 or so, more in store credit. ...but that might be because I already have bought pretty much all the clothes I want on SL. 😱
  15. Very rarely are clothes perfectly rigged for the originals either. I have a folder full of alpha layers for blueberry clothes...
  16. Slink and Maitreya both got rid of onion/applier layers. Other manufacturers didn't. Slink went one step further by removing the "chunk alpha" feature that bodies typically use, making theirs use less computer resources to render. Maitreya did not. The downside of that is of course that you have to make alpha layers for some outfits, which can get annoying. Though Slink does provide a massive box of them for free. edit: Oh, and Maitreya did leave the applier layers as separate attachments. Slink still provides the body that has them as a permanent option, but considers that feature outdated so it's not on the newest update.
  17. OTOH It's not like Maitreya gives out their addons (like the smaller chest) because you own the previous one. It's bought separately. At least neither forced you to buy a whole new full-priced product to get a new minor addition like a certain other company. (I would also argue that Slink had the only good approach to BoM but I suppose that's about preferences...)
  18. No doubt about it. With how frequent clothing events in particular are, the creators don't seem to have time for creativity. Interrupt me if you've not seen these at a recent event near you: jeans shorts, microskirts, waist-high jeans, bodysuit (sometimes with gaps!), crop top with long sleeves, very generic heels with an open top... and so on.
  19. Oh the old ones were quite often obviously pandering. Hax, Dalek, Warf... there's a lot of them. Or just nonsensical like Drinkwater. Or silly like Potato or Dinosaur.
  20. Teleports still largely work. They work more often than they fail, at least. My personal pet theory that's entirely unsubstantiated is that the times they fail is if you teleport between cloud and earth, which should be solved once we're all sky high.
  21. I've been waiting for a list refresh too, the selection so far has been... poor.
  22. I don't really see it costing more than 10k for body, head, wardrobe and such. Assuming human female, you get the body for ~3k, the head for a similar amount (or free, there's a lot of great free heads, some as promotions). You can get a nice outfit for some 1-2k if you spend some time looking. Hair, skin, both maybe 500 each. Genitals, if you're into those, have high quality options from 500 to 2000. The key is to not buy something just because it's the most popular brand, except perhaps the body so you get lots of clothes. Unless you specifically like the most popular brand, anyhow. And there's a lot of optional extras you could get, but don't need to look great.
  23. The way some designers label gifts. I mean yeah gift horses, mouths, etc. But would it really kill you to label the gift something more descriptive than "designernamexmas19"? It makes inventory management kind of agonising since I have to go unpack it to see if I want to keep it and if so, where in my inventory it goew, and this happens a lot too. Meanwhile if the box is named like "omega beer tattoo gift by designer, 2019" then I know I can just delete it. Or at least sort it.
  24. Sure, one might say, you can't run around naked for maximum optimization. Sure, that's entirely true. But, to illustrate the point Niran & Pussycat were making... my avatar, depicted below - fully dressed and with entirely too much jewelry, is still <500k triangles all in all - which is about one naked belleza body with no head, or half a legacy body, again with no head. Out of the human bodies, though, there is an option that's just about as good! Slink is on equal footing with most furry creators when it comes to sensible and good-looking optimized bodies. Even Maitreya isn't all that bad now that the onion layers are optional. So you can be relatively low-lag as a human, too.
  25. Not possible. The system could arbitrarily return some of their items if the number is exceeded, though.
