  1. Well being married is SL i am done with since 3 years already actually. I suppose it can be exciting to partner as a newb because of all the exclusive attention you get. However after a 1/2 year or so it really had become very boring because SL is so terribly limited. After i finally met my prince in RL partnering in SL would really feel like being disloyal, i couldn't do it. Perhaps it is because i see SL as a parallel playworld to RL really. I am not much of a dreamer. I do like the graphics, 3D creation and the funny bits of SL. I can't find any reason to partner in SL actually. However, SL is different for everybody i suppose. In RL love never gets boring to me because of all the really touchy things we actually can do LOL.
  2. Wow wow wow, the recent fasion of last decade has arrived in SL? hahah Technically it looks great i have to say, but the fashion, oh dear... I did wear such 5 years ago in RL really ahem, sorry. However the page itself, cool !
  3. Hi, Yes i agree search can drive someone really mad. That kind of sudden drop of sales happens to me every other 14 weeks, so it does not necessarily have to do with your purchase. It has to do with the way you are using your search keys in both your land decription and sales vendors. When you bought that new land and you joined it as one piece, your whole sales history, name and description is taken from your largest plot. However when you have not joined them and you have copied the same land name search keys into the new parcel, then it can cause this deep drop. What happens. SL's search is based Google's Search Appliance, version 6, GSA6. Using too many exact search keys in both land descriptions and sales vendors can result in an automatic penalty in your search rank. Especially when the use of small and capital letters is duplicated exactly too should you not have joined the parcels and used the same name and keys. This is how Google deals with websites as well. Each parcel you have is basically a 3D website competing against eachother. GSA6 has another trick. It can filter out certain letters and letter combinations. Somehow this filter is changed frequently at about 14 weeks to my experience, but i keep an eye on it. When i see a 95% drop in one day then i know it is that moment. So what i do, is rolling the use of some search keys every 14 weeks (or in between) and i seem to be back in business again. But i agree the search can really drive someone absolutely mad.
  4. From all the tickets I have filed in the last years all have been addressed very proper and professional. However since Dec. 2010 from 3 tickets, 1 remained unanswered, 1 still is in progress since weeks and the last one was about 'standard' replies while I had already ruled those standard replies out. I closed that last ticket because it was going nowhere. I think they have a highly unexperienced cs team at the moment after the lay offs. They hardly understand much unfortunate so grab a their instruction paper what to reply or something, you know like a call centre. But how many IT companies do have proper cs. It is something they don't like. They usually like to geek and play, highly concentrated on the techs having no concept of their users' real needs.
  5. Hi, It is a real pain to find people i know. A problem is that a lot of places tend to have botted traffic, or are deserted like the destination guide places. Even many of the names above adviced to you are botted. Well most of them are, but not many know that or want to expose it. However busy and friendly places that are not botted I know are: Moody's: a classic café, very very very friendly and you are part of the family instantly. Club Industry: the Industrial music genre is something have to like of course. Dublin, There is an Irish pub and very funny to be. Blackhearts: jsut avoid staff as the name is Black... Hearts. They ban easy depening on staff's mood. But it might click for you. Sweethearts: however bare in mind that it is an actual 3D RL dating place. People are nice however. Titanic, mostly shops, but inside the ship at the front there is an active ballroom dance. New Citizens Island. Most freebie places in SL. Many come there to find free stuff and it's easy to find friends. Most new comer places like Ahern. Also bare in mind that SL is the busiest from Friday, Sat, Sun and Mondays during the hours both people from the American and Europeans continents are mostly online. I would say from appr. 9.00 AM SLT to 13:00 PM SLT. __ Best of luck, :smileyhappy: Linda
  6. Fly can be overriden anyway by activating the Admin menu by the way, but not all know that. I wouldn't limit and frustrate visitors if not strictly needed. I just don't allow weapons, biting, nudity and building. But I prefer having my visitors decide themselves how to explore my store since it basically is a 3D browser. Since you don't know all your visitors, chances are some will be irritated or even frustrated. I do hate no-fly myself. Specially for shopping it is often used to speed up movement / aka 3D browsing. Fly is one of the wonders in SL. Why take that possibility for easy movement, and thus a tad higher chance of better sales away in SL. It doesn't sound logic to me.
  7. He can only be one for me: THE Torley :smileyvery-happy:
  8. I agree, not a very good SL week. My FPS has become highly volatile and my experienced choppy. I think they changes something with load balancing? When i login i don't start as a cloud anymore and have to wait a few seconds to see my avi, suddenly appearing. FPS starts terrible like 7 and after all is rezzed it goes up to 30-40 and down to 10 - 12 like crazy. My walking in SL has become very choppy while FPS is high at moments like 30 or 40. But when i turn around FPS can drop to 9 or so... crazy. It used to be much more stable.
  9. Hi, I don't have a G73 specifically, but an Asus G50VT. When i started to use my Asus at the end of 2009 the graphics in SL looked like blocks and very weird. I was lucky that the video card of my Asus came into support just a week later in SL's graphic tables, otherwise my SL was toast. The problem might have been that your graphic card may well not be supported yet by SL. My experience is that it can take up a year or so before they finally do, however your card came to the marktet in 2009 and should be supported by now. So i took a look into the GPU tables of SL and the ATI Radeon HD 5870 is support (pfffeww... for you). Have you tried the following? In Preferences -> Graphics, click the Advanced button and set all grpahics yourself. Disable hardware detection: Edit proporties in your Second Life shortcut. Right click the shortcut, choose properties, and add -noprobe to the end of the Target line. This stops SL auto detecting your card so you can change all settings in the graphic preferences. Perhaps you might try to update your driver to a newer version and see if it makes a difference. I have to add that ATI and Second Life aren't the best combination, that is why changed to Nvidia when i was a point to buy a new notebook by the way. Best of luck Linda
  10. Wonderful idea. I have already donated to the red cross in RL. I have no words for what is going on in Japan and my heart goes out to the Japanese and espcially those effected. Can we read somewhere how much Linden Lab themselves from their own financial assets will donate in future to certain charities ? Let us also stay critical. Be aware please that the Japanese government very clearly stated they don't want or need money. Japan is a highly developed country. Hands on help is highly needed. However the red cross is a voluntary organization depending on donations. However, please do realize that Japan has no need of money actually
  11. Dunno, it is no secret that Philip Linden isn't very satisfied about 2 at the moment either. For what i understood from him from a television interview the new viewer is being rethinked, however I think they are in a stall what to do.
  12. Nods ! 1.23.5 is still okay for login. I am using 2 since 2.4 because it has attachments that can be added at the same points and 1.23.5 doesn't show the added attachments. It is the only reason for me. I have waited a very long to use it so i have been using it since last Dec, but i am strongly thinking to switch back to 1.23.5 because i simply am not going to use 3rd party viewers since LL's acceptance on the TPV actually has too little value. And I have never ever trusted 3rd parties. Actually I do have higher fps with 2 but it is tedious, and very screen cluttering. Specially the sidebar is a drama. And all those extra bars at the top brrr. Earlier Philip Linden has announced that 1.23.5 will stay available for login as long as 2 isn't upto a mainstream point of acceptance. Rumours are that Philip isn't very satisfied by it either, however i don't have the impression that he is very committed at the moment to quickly do something about it since he is occupied with a very different project which he wants to promote to the IT industry in order to add a product to LL's portfolio other than SL. In short: you have my vote ! And i prolly will go back to 1.23.5.
  13. What i understand is that the movie business these days uses 25 and 30 frames per second. Simply because the human/brain eye doesn't seem to be able to process more. Smooth anims in SL are made like that as well. Users of higher end computers can see the actual smooth anim, while users of lower spec computers will see less fps automatically.
  14. LL earlier has blogged second names would end. However i do agree it is not the best call from LL. But why not sign up like First name_Lastname, or Firstname-Lastname. It's how i would do it. Chances are nill that it is already taken.
  15. Hi, Have you tried the lossless option at uploading? The option (tickmark) should be available in the prepicture window just before final uploading.
  16. I have always tried to match SL appearance to my RL. To simulate all one does in RL is going way too far for me, so i never did have a kitchen or a bathroom in SL, and lately not even a bed anymore (for the latter let's just say we do things in SL as a single newb lol, but for romance i consider SL as game over since i'm happy on that front in RL where it should stay). All in all i do see SL as an addition to RL. For example, there are sims replicating RL places, art galleries, meeting places, nature parks et cetera. I like those. When i started to create fashion i went totally off mainstreamin in SL making wearable RL kind of dresses since i hardly could ever find what i liked for my avatar to dress like i do in RL. At the moment i am working on a version of a Prada dress for the summer. Not that i wear that in brand in RL (i just have 1 Dior dress and 1 Prada), but now SL comes in handy to extend my closet I love this place, but some things need to stay in RL for me, and SL comes in very handy for other things.
  17. Hi, I hardly have had any TP problem since a year or so. Perhaps the following may help ( it did for me ). In preferences -> Setup, never set the Maximum bandwith over 1000 - 1200. I don't very much understand why we are allowed to turn it up so high even upto 10,000. It makes no sense because SL hardly ever uses more than 1000. Very, very very occasionally there is a peak to 1500. To keep it around 1000 is the safest and most stable scenario. Over it may cause tp fails, extra lag et cetera. Torley does warn about it also on one of his tutorials. Dunno if this helps, i though i'dd post it for your info.
  18. Oops, this new way does seems to need some acclimatization for me LOL. It is a tad older low cost card (2008). In theory it should work perhaps, but quite slow by now I suppose. Radeons in general aren't excellent for SL too. I would not recommend it.
  19. It is an older low cost card (2008). In theory it should still work, but quite slow by now i suppose. Radeons in general aren't excellent for SL too. I would not recommend it.
  20. Although statistics sure can be manipulative i do feel the latest report to concurring what i experience inworld. The economic development of SL is going sideways since a year or two. Actually i don't think LL is that motivated to let SL grow further. Since 2007 they have established an annual income of appr. 70 Mill. US$ by tier alone from appr. 30k regions. They have created a pretty stable business in RL from a financial point of view. I do think too that tier should be cut by half at least, but i don't think it will happen; it would mean that LL should compromise their stable monthly income by half while i personally still don't think SL can be technically scaled up by 200%. And SL nevery became ready for the mass anyway. And Philip has been working on a newer project: the love machine which he promotes to IT companies. All that said, I think LL keeps SL as a niche; a stable cash cow that is for them.
  21. A very warm welcome to SL Rod. I do hope you actually have fun rather than... let's behave funny because i have to professional wise. Your intro looks wonderful though
  22. Nice improvements, but a link to FB after all these security scandals? hmm, interesting. Is LinkedIn now becoming more of a social media than a pure business platform? It's a trend i seem to see continue here now in SL. Not good (!)
  23. Hi, maybe i can shine some light on this. I have been in the land business in SL for many years. According to Linden Lab's Terms of Services the estate owner is allowed to do this, however i would mark it as deceiving to my hounest opinion. No covenent was a part of your decision. Personally it is simple to see hat this estate owner has his own norms and values, but it doesn't show to much trust worthy op my opinion. I would leave as soon as possible. Estate owners can do wathever they want, even ban you after payment. There are many trusted estate owners, but also many fraudulent unfortunate. On mainland you really own land and you can control everything yourself. I hope this helps.
  24. A happy further travel Jack in your career. My impression has always been that Linden Lab and Jack have not been the most excellent match. It has nothing to do with Jack or LL, just the combo wasn't top to my feeling. I do credit Jack for the cleanup of the mainland. The fast growth of mainland in 2007 was a disaster. The bot policy has had some effect, but the solution isn't really top. And the Search has always been a pain for far too long. As i have seen in a Dutch interview by Jeroen Smit (a Dutch Journalist searching for what modern leaders should be about since conventional management methods crash our world) taken shortly after M left and broadcasted here on last Sunday evening, Philip explained that LL uses its "love machine" in where top talents only are naturally selected by its peer employees who are internal competitors to make the best bid for tasks published on LL's intranet, however with the catch that the result of all tasks are evaluated by internal peers. A positive evaluation results in a bonus on top of the accepted bid and the employee concerned is likely assured that her/his next bids will be selected. Either Jack's time was up because his bids were being less accepted or he just moves on further, either by another job offer or by his decision. Whatever it is, Jack, i wish you happy further travel.
