  1. Awww, her viewers never were a hit for me personally, but that doesn't mean at all of course she had a inferior viewer by all means. It has worked for so many, and it is a shame see her leaving, but yes, RL first of all and SL is just nice to have I wish her all the best really
  2. Looking a gifting horse in its mouth i do not prefer, however may i add a critical note. This perhaps is a start after 3 years of discussions about benefits for premium members, however what is exactly the benefit? A dedicated sandbox, pardon but i can't exactly see the advantage... I mean what in all are the added values other than a few extra items in the inventory for the home. There are already so many freebies of similar quality available for all. Added value would be access to monthly economic metrics, concierge style support, access to specific special groups, stipend weekly to 500, exclusive rights to visit special super high quality and higher performance regions for premiums where 100 avies can meet with the same level of performance of 10 in normal regions, things like that. However it is a start perhaps.
  3. I'm a bit reserved to actually be that enthousiastic. Mesh certainly seems a step forward to actually gain on competition when it comes to graphic looks, however i don't see the point with mesh and 5 fps or so where it was 4-10 times higher for so many... So many seem to report that problem which started with 2.7.5 for Windows, Mac and Linux with Intel Duo Cores. All that Customer Services at LL can do with new a ticked is wait with a reply and then point to at a newer SL version. With yet another showstopper. There is simply not much else they can do. Since the UI of V2/3 is horrid i will just wait for better days. If they are not coming it seems a way out for me then in the end since i am not going to buy yet another computer for just SL and then prey if it works. Personally i didn't see a step forward with concurrent users in the last years. It has peaked yesterday (Sunday) at around 65k, but mostly it has been around 58k or so, where it was 85k Dec. 2007. Given that a pile of them were actually scripted that time i would have hoped at least to see SL gain daily concurrent users, however it doesn't seem to happen. The Basic login and 2/3 UI both don't seem to do the job. Actually sign ups seem to have increased. How many of them are really new is the question as i have met many of so called newbs, but they just wanted to experience the bells and whistles all recent changes and see how it looked like. They were actually in SL since 2007. So this late slight increase of sign ups is to be further analysed by SL. Fun inworld is also not very much progressing and improving and i strongly do have the feeling that more and more silent types seem to find a way into SL which is no fun at all. They don't chat, no IM, no voice... nothing, agressive profiles, and just being the silent individualist as in RL. I thought this was a social platform ?! Where is the interaction other than clubs where nasty IM's and chat spam are usually a garantee Mesh is fine, just the majority of users also should be able to actually have joy with it, and with 5 fps... it just isn't and UI2/3 is already hardly to be accepted since it looks terrible, thick and visually bulky. Where does this all go... Old time users who actually have learned to understand all the misery on their SL path, however.. newer users to actually stay more... i don't know...
  4. Well, actually i am not very much a groupy not in RL, not in SL... Why? because of peer pressure and unwanted influences... and i really do dislike routines and trash cult which the latter is very, very pressuring in SL... like... Linda should you not get a better skin in all these years?... uhmm no, i deeply dislike bling, tattoos, cacial hair, caps, barbie dolling and trash wear... eeeewwww, and the latter is sooo SL cult, but i have never ever engaged to that. I stayed myself... Did i ever find a group matching me? Some... a few yes, but 2 or 3 in my almost 5 years in SL, and they were not pressuring at all. I tend to be very selective in SL, much more even than RL. I'd like to keep my SL warm, dignified with loyalty to matching friends in SL (rare). Hmm am i a cult now? Lol, perhaps one on my own... hahah. Because i am me... a free thinking spirit as much as possible which is unique these days ""None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free"... Goethe...)
  5. Viewer 1.23.5 still works brilliant and it is rated as the fasest. I gave up with 2 with 2.7.3/4/5. I am not even going to install 2.8. The UI is so thick, bulky and cluttering. 1.x Will keep on working according to Philip Rosedale untill mesh is commonly used throughout the grid which will be at least another year or perhaps 2 since it certainly will not be a hobby for the masses. 1.23.5 Won't be able to render mesh, but that is a much later worry really, and meanwhile have fun. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions Have fun the retro way The extra's in 2 aren't worth all the frustration.
  6. Actually the choice of your words are yours, however i do agree much. Of course SL is not all about top talents and everybody should be given a chance, however from showcase i had always expected more including traffic and friendly services rather than kinda contact disturbed interaction (or none interaction actually) to it's visitors. I never have ever understood how many of those places actually ended up at show case rating really. Mind that in SL the quality of articulation talent tends to be very low. Somehow many with some contact disturbed syndrom seem to find a way to SL, and what i suspect is that many old timer affiliated computer handy contacts with LL have been granted into it... somehow. I gave up to those places already 4 years ago. Most of the owners are silent, brute or very crude as i have experienced sad. But... that is SL.. Look at the many profiles... there are many friendly ones, but als very many brute ones... All in all this SL... sadly really.
  7. Very nice ! Congratulations. I do hope not photoshopped pimped as per usual in SL. Dunno if it means something, but at least you have more exposure. Very nice location i must say ! Congrats again
  8. Looking at your list of specifications i miss OpenGL. SL doesn't use DirectX, but OpenGL. Usually both 3D rendering 'machines' should be installed, however do check your OpenGL version if it is the latest and installed. However i have also seen much troubles with Windows7 64 bits, OpenGL and SL. I would recommend to check your OpenGL first. Best of Luck
  9. Indeed, btw service question from DX Exchange are most wonderful and very responsive to my experience. Very unlike LL or unlike many amateur merchants in SL. DX service is very professional as it is a rl business, specially questions via their website's ticket system are replied to very lively and exceptionally responsive. Mind that they are at Dutch time btw. Best of Luck.
  10. Very good comment Scars, i can't agree more on all you say. Things i want to add... Server rent (or a parcel of it) is a 3D space in SL, but it is way too expensive and could be much more obtainable at a lower rate. All prices in IT had a strong down force in the last years... except SL. LL used to operate IBM and Dell rack serves to my best knowlegde. These are very cheap these days, but if i am right SL is now operated by Apple mini servers which are even positioned at basic price while more reliable, solid and with a lot less cables. When do we see a down force of prices of 3D spaces in SL... ? The inworld experience has hardly changed since 2006 when i came. There are no build in quality animations like swimming, kissing, shaking hands, hugging... and so on. There are no decent avatar physics to control other than a copy from Pheonix which is most silly. The UI of 2 has been spoken about already by so many and so many. Visually it is thick, bulky and screen cluttering. The former UI was much more playful and could be seen even as more elegant and adding value to the immersive experience. Perhaps the skins were not that good, but that was a matter of desiging a decent elegant skin. LL claims to have more registrations since the Basic login. While this seems the case, it is hardly so much more to lift SL. Dare i say that i met many new friends in the last months via the Basic mode, but what did they do? They told me they liked The Sims better, so i never have seen them ever again. My question would be, is this new CEO not too conservative (as he explains in an interview) and just copies many of the ideas he had at Electronic Arts. If so that is going to be a bad call. Obtaining some L$ for newbs has become ever more hard is what i also do notice. Another thing to worry about is that many high quality designers and builders have left SL. And mesh is also not going to be for the average creator i am quite certain. In other words... creation is becoming ever more complex for the average. And another huge worry... which has hardly ever changed... inworld services and services from merchants. One of my biggest frustrations has always been delivery of the purchase and as advertised. LL should check in their servers if a transaction had been completed within the server environment, if not the purchase should be made undone. Undo the stalled delivery, debit the merchant and credit the buyer. If i am not happy with the purchase because it is not as advertised (since many creators pimp their vendor by photoshop) it should be enabled to undo the purchase within a certain time a buyer/user is online. For example enable a trial period of 1 hour. Because don't we all know the average service from merchants in SL... s**t (pardon). Some are very good but they are rare what i have experienced since 2006. And with 24 Mill accounts, but only ~60000 online at peak times what are the chances a merchant will actually address your case soon or ever... It is one of the reasons i refrained from shopping in SL and started to make my own creations so that i had at least full controls and garantee my own services. Lately i thought about shopping again and tried again after many years... however 50% was not as advertised (was added as copy/modify, but was not at all... Bad!) I was thinking of finally buying a horse... but i refrained from the idea because 25% of replies said it was never delivered or at lowever quality than the demo. So... Not i am not going to pay 1500 or 4000 L$ on such, sorry. Earlier i was thinking about buying the Swimmer AO, but the Demo had strange flaws so i dropped a notecard to the merchant before i was ready to buy the official version... a well know old name in SL... Reply... zip although he appeared 2x times right at my face... I thought he'd perhaps missed my notecard and dropped it again on his account name... zero reply although he appeared at my face again without any reply. So... no i am not going to buy that junk, sorry. Perhaps there are many more ideas to avoid old well known frustrations and come up with new ideas INworld not around it. Best of luck
  11. Since when does any merchant know anything about service here in SL (ahem) other than some robo like type contact they can think of. Like, contact the merchant... et cetera. You, me perhaps, but almost nobody else (my experience since 2006). Hardly any merchant every replies, or if they do it is often robo like reply they can RP somehow but in the end will do zip. Very very frustrating. There could be a simple automated process to handle it. Even automatic take down the merchant and ban her/him at no compliances. Quite simple, and it would distinguish amateurs from real pros.
  12. I would suggest a system that verifies delivery. If not delivered after 24 hours (transferred within the SL servers from account to account), debit the account of the owner's vendor and credit the sum back to the buyer as it is frustrating. 90% Of any merchant never ever reply or super arrogant macho upon a service request. The bigger they are in SL the worse if often gets. Only since 2003... ahem. Known and old names in SL aren't any garantee either. I had a question recently again about some waterworks. Do you think he ever replied? Nope, although he was right at my face online twice. Just an example of how it often works in SL. Terrible practices that could be avoided partly by the system i propose.
  13. Hi, i m always open to new friends. My rezz day is in Dec 2006 too. I like to socialize and have some pg fun in SL. A thing t i really don't like very much is adding someone to the friendlist and then a recurring silence starts while being online. I always say a hi, but then responses stay low to nill already the next day. I can understand when someone is busy, but are you someone to let that know? Stalled contacts happens ~90% of the time for me already after 1 day and i really don't like that. I say it when i am busy or use busy mode. Luckely a ~10% seem genuine recurrent contact-ritch friends for me sofar, but how are you standing at all the above... Can you be open what more you like to do in SL? For me it is chatting, exploring, creating, dancing, pg fun and with recurring gentle friends. No hanky panky! I'm always very responsive, but if i'm busy i do at least respond and close contacts nicely, not just a silence. My time btw is Dutch time... So there could be time different we need to know. Perhaps we can add friends, but tell more about yourself, what more do you like (as you seem to be a very busy person in SL)... and how do you stand at sudden silent contacts.... Because i just don't need friends for 1 day. Thanks or IM me and let me know because friendship in SL should not be a one way traffic like IM me and we'll see. It already gives the impression of not the highest real interest to be just bluntly hounest. But i am interested to hear more, thanks.
  14. The difference is the option for HTTP textures in the 2 versions which 1 does not have. In V2 It is found under the Developer Menu. First activate the Advanced menu (Ctrl+Alt+D, then activate the Developer Menu. Both menus can also be activated via Preferences (Ctrl+P). HTTP textures does load textures faster for some and for some it slows down. In my case it slows down terribly; so turning them off for me speeds up a lot (so V1 is a whole lot faster for me). For you perhaps if turned on in V2. Check that in the Advanced menu in V2. What else you can do is reduce draw distance and not use water shadows. Another important thing is to set your bandwith in the SL preferences to 1000. It really makes no sense at all to set a higher value since SL hardly ever goes over 1000 (Torley has a tutorial about it even), and you can see this clearly happen under the statistics floater in all viewers (Ctrl+Shift+1). Setting bandwith too high will even slow down load due to packet loss. Just keep it at 1000 as an optimum. Best of luck :smileyhappy:
  15. Uh huh, after 2.8 and 2.9 comes humm 3 (?) LOL, as long as they will change the horrid screen clutterig UI... i'm ready. If not it will be version 2(3) uh? New IU, New UI, New UI...
  16. Hi Torley you have been my hero since a long time. Via you i learned SL, because i always understood that SL for you has always been much more than your job because i did understand where you came from, and how you found SL one day to elevate your freedom and expression from a certain personal position. However, i wished, so dearly wished that v2 is being thought over deeply. I started to try it with 2.4. That gave me constant micro freezes. I skipped 2.5 and went to 2.6. That had a pile of other showstoppers like constant freezes, and then 2.7.2 finally worked but has the beta search and then came 2.7.3/4/5... That has the general problem of tanking general fps. I was asked via a tickets to try 2.8, but i'm fed up with 2. It is not a matter of getting used to the UI coming from V1. I always have found V2 screen cluttering and unpractical therefore not really adding value to the immersive experience. The UI simply is horrific and HTTP textures slows down my load. Ok the latter i could turn off and and i at least have given 2 a try. But... pfew darn is that thing a pile of rubbish. Mind that my computer is exactly spot on concerning recommended specifications. Torley i am not quiet alone in this. V2 is a very hated viewer and is being hardly used by the majorty because of both the UI and too many showstoppers for too many. This is well know. What i simply don't understand is why LL just keeps acting as if all is well. I truly love your work Torley, but i gave up all about V2 and many with me i'm sure.
  17. Uh huh it's an easy calculation i did a few years back. One can make on the back side of a shoe box really. Appr. 30000 sims x 250 Average tier is already 90 mill USD per year. TY for the confirmation. Basic operation costs are also simple to calculate: appr. 250 workers x 2500 USD monthly = 7.5 Mill. per year. Other costs are energy, servers and many sundries. But rest assured that LL makes a hell of a lot of money as nett profit to reinvest and to have a nice life for the main investors. It's the reason why they became so lame.
  18. For me it still is and remains 1.23.5. It's fast, easy and fun. Changes in 2 versioned viewers compared to 1 aren't even worth mentioning. Pheonix is way too complicated and versions i have tried earlier were utterly slow. Moreover, i simply don't ever trust 3rd party viewers. Earlier there was the Emerald debacle i already knew 2 years ahead that it was about to happen, but i was scorned every time i mentioned it. Red and Black... colours are untrustworthy (develish even) and names involved with Pheonix who won't even be open about their real names. Uh huh, i know Pheonix/Firestorm is a cult and used by the mass in sl, but not particular good viewers really. But what then. Well viewer 2 is simply loaded with bugs. I have tried it since version 2.4 but i jumped ship 2.6 already since i went from showstopper to showstopper. I did read that LL is in the search of a QA officer. But that is not the solution, it is the new policy set by their latest CEO to get every single new thing out as fast as he can... ending in utter rubbish where 2 hardly has been adopted (by less than 20% of the users i understand). I keep my 1.23.5 and i would not be worried too much for the coming year. It has taken years before high quality sculpties were used by the masses and mesh simply will go the same path, it's not for the average user. And what i understood earlier is that Philip Rosedale himself is not too happy with V2 either, the developer who made it left SL and since 3 August the director of engineering left the company too. LL has totally lost any direction... It's waiting for V3... perhaps, untill that... 1.23.5 for me it is as long as i can for the coming months if not years. Or untill LL gets their act together someday in the near future. So for me sofar. V2: Unfit 3rd parties: Unfit 1.23.5: Smiles, Fit :matte-motes-smitten:
  19. For some it's a new hobby inlcuding "new" CEO. At the moment i am not too interested. If i understood right the current CEO came from a gaming company. The consequence is that his policies are alike. I'd rather prefer a more solid development road with things we really need rather than seeing newer versions of LL's fly around our ears. Every time i put in a ticket, LL services reply to try the latest viewer. But i am not intested in beta testing, i want to have fun so i went back to good old solid 1.23.5. With it i have been in a mesh enabled area and i could not see any problems sofar. But like sculpties it will take a few years to see mesh used massively in SL. For the average user sculpties and mesh are a bridge too far. I also personally believe that the current development policies since the new CEO are not about what SL is truly about. With the hated official viewer2, too many things not really needed sofar LL has not been able to make a turnaround of the slight downtrend when it comes to actual users of SL. This latter does bother me.
  20. I have seen a slight decrease since March or so but it's normal for the season. Now during European summer vacation i only have seen sales go up, specially those items supported by mesh regions such as mega primmed objects and such. In your case i recommend to do the same since you sell high quality living. Do mind that you need to keep your search criteria up-to-date frequently also. Specially since we have had many changes in search.
  21. I don't really am interested to know who is using what exactly. That game would feel like kindergarten. Most important however is to see that viewer2 is being hardly used. It seems to be a clear signal that devs of LL are so far off. That itself is a major worry. But i don't know if Pheonix is such a heaven. I have tried it a few times and it was terribly annoyingly slow, as i hear that confirmed by many users i speak... with ultimate message they hardly login anymore because SL is so slow. For that i have already lost so many friends. When i refer to 1.23.5 they don't believe it is very fast and smooth, but it really is for the most i speak in SL still using it (at least 10 people that i know of). About mesh... When sculpties came to SL it took about 2 years to see them being used full scale at most places. The actual use had taken a long time, also due to lack of tools and tutorials. It has taken another 2 years to actually see high detailed sculpties used on most places in SL. And still there are so many places being very conservative with sculpties. Perhaps the average user isn't well familiar with 3D designing and to actually learn it requires massive time far beyond basic interest for SL which i wonder who has that. As for viewer1 based... They are stll the most loved SLbrowsers. Where 2 based are very very hated by far the most users. The choice is also for LL... take that into consideration or see the retour trend of actual users and user hours continued since 2008. But personally i don't see the mesh coming very fast in SL at all, so it all will bore down to time, Perhaps viewer3 will appeal to the majority... or it will have a black login screen with the message that your computer is below basic requirements to run it.... Please buy a new one at the LL store... every other month hahaahh.
  22. I can only agree. The logic at San Fransisco, Battery street ?! Me too rolling my eyes. V2 never has gratified me actually. I changed to 2 in Dec. last year. With 2.4 i had micro freezes ever other 5 seconds or so which was utter and utter annoying. Then 2.5 came along... freezes, freezes and freezes. 2.6 came... didn't work properly. 2.7.2 that finally worked for me but it had a beta search. And then 2.7.3 lowered my fps ~10. Not to worry i still had 30-40 fps. And then finally 2.7.4 dropped my fps to 5-7 and there was no way to get it normal again. So many i speak inworld today have gone back to 1.23.5. It is fluent and silky smooth. Pheonix isn't very well either, it has become terribly slow to all users i have spoken lately. All the new featues are nice, but sofar i really haven't desired them really. Avatar physics is hilariuos. Not needed when wearing underwire... I prefer to have inworld fun instead of spending hours fighting showstop annoyances. I think one of the problems is that a few power users have become a dominant voice for LL to follow their needs... that's what i think and clearly see happen. Mesh is about to come i agree, but we'll see.
  23. Well we could say that the numbers dazzle around our ears. Half way i fell asleep lol. It seems a promo, quite boring even to be hounest. But ok if it works it works, that is for lower spec computers since many in SL are on an older notebook. I suspect at this very moment it is more for the geeks and gamers who are used to enormous computing power. Many in SL use lower spec thingies so if it works for that it is be hoped that LL will take advantage of it at early stage of development then, but as always.... they have fallen so far behind where they were far ahead one day...and that link is a promo. And in promo's everything is possible lol.
  24. Have you tried HTTP textures off? For many that is a desaster and it was for me too during my time i tried 2. Many textures stayed at blur and many sculpties just rezzed half and then stalled. Activate the Advance Menu (CTRL+ALT+D) then turn off HTTP textures in there. For many it speeds up enormous. If that is not resolving your issue rest assured that viewer2 for appr. 80% of SL is a desaster and highly unliked. Many including me went back to 1.23 since Pheonix uses the HTTP textures too making loading textures very very slow as well (i just spoke to some people inworld about it). I see many grab back to the 1.23.5.
  25. Hi, I went back to 1.23.5 because it is smooth and stable. My notebook is more than capable of running viewer2, but the problem is that 2 is loaded with showbugger bugs. The thought that a better and better pc is needed for SL all the time is a myth. This is not so. Of course a 3 year old pc might having more trouble by now, but it ridicule to think that a new pc is needed so often. This is again simply not so. I switched to 2.4 back in Dec. last year. Pfwaaah the screen clutter with 2 is an utter utter disaster. Every 5 seconds or so i had micro freezes, then 2.5 comes out... piled with freezes. 2.6 piles of other showstoppers, 2.7.2... finally seems more stable but it has beta search. 2.7.3... much lower fps, 2.7.4... crashed my fps at 5-7 where it was 30-40 in 2.7.2 and 50-60 with 1.23.5. I am not using SL to fight all these showstoppers for hours. I want to use sl and have fun !! To my opinion viewer2 is sooo poorly programmed and totally disgarding users. 1.23 It is for me for a long time still to come. I don't care if i don't have multiple attachment points because there are ways to go around it (link attachments and wear again), shared media isn't really shared so i don't use it, avatar physics is ridicule and not needed (since i prefere to wear underwires lolol). In the end... viewer2 has no added value for me at all... only subtracted value really hahah. Well if mesh is to come, bad luck then, we'll see. Hurray for 1.23.5 !!
