  1. A couple of keyboards [Roland Fantom X8 + Roland Jupiter X] and an electric guitar thru an FX box [Boss GT-10] into a sub-mixer and then into a Behringer X-18 digital mixer which combines the output from my DAW [Cubase Pro12] which I play along with. The output from the X-18 goes out to: 1] Studio monitors for me to hear what I'm doing so that I'm playing in time and in key with my backing tracks from the DAW. 2] OBS studio on a second computer which also grabs the output from an SL viewer [this is then fed to my live streams on YouTube, Facebook & Twitter]. There are also 2 android phones that I use as webcams feeding into OBS studio. 3] A Behringer UMC 202HD which feed into my main computer which host my DAW, 3 more SL viewers + and MP3 encoder [Edcast] which sends an MP3 stream to a Shoutcast server for SL. It's a setup that I've built up over the years and works for me. It's not as complex as it sounds. My advice is to start with a simple setup, get it working for your needs and then build upon it as you develop your act.
  2. Check on the marketplace for shoutcast and/or icecast streaming services. Also check out the classified ads. There are many stream hosts in SL to choose from.
  3. I presume you mean free audio encoders. Here you are: BUTT Encoder [Icecast + Shoutcast] Icecast AltaCast [formerly Edcast or Oddcast] For all of the above you will need the 3rd party LAME MP3 encoder dll file: Lame MP3 Encoder I hope that helps. YMMV. FWIW, I use an older Edcast encoder that works fine for me and have been live streaming live music performances into SL for 16 years.
  4. What are these people things you speak of?
  5. Funnily enough, even though I list my various social media accounts in my profile, I get very little attention. It's probably something to do with the fact that I use my social media accounts to promote my music which seems to be a major turn-off to many people, so I get to sail through SL mostly undisturbed by weirdos. 😁
  6. I'm not sure, but SL most certainly has a massive and ever-growing dumb-o-densia.
  7. Seeing how the showstopper is the inability to port content from SL 1.x to SL 2.x how about a system where the legacy [ie: current] engine and a new improved engine run side-by side with the option to log in with either a legacy viewer that would support all the old content or a new, improved viewer that would work with a newer engine that does not support deprecated content? That way people can try it out and see if they're really going to miss all that old clutter from their inventories that they're probably never going to use anyway. It would allow people the opportunity to migrate to a and experience to a new improved system hopefully with whatever content works with the new system.
  8. ^^^ This ^^^ And seeing how it would almost impossible to have a shout out for all the brands, surely it would have made better sense to discuss mesh bodies in a generic sense rather than brand-specific. There's enough commonality between all the mesh bodies that a more generic approach would work.
  9. As an oldbie with a grandfathered account that pays for itself, the deal for P+ doesn't stack up so I'll pass. Nice idea though. Probably more useful for busy content creators.
  10. Had a brief stay in the US of A back in the early to mid 1970's. Got out before I could be shipped out to Vietnam to die an unpleasant death. Never looked back. Looks like things are going downhill fast over there. I wish them the best of luck.
  11. OK, I'll weigh in here about the SL-on-Twitch thing. I live stream my music performances from our SL venue to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch. I've never had any gyp from Twitch about it or complaints although that may be because my viewing figures are in single digits 😉 I'm not sure if it's relevant but for the last year I've added thumbnails into the video of me in the old home studio playing in realtime. However I had started live streaming to Twitch long before I added the RL thumbnails and was totally unaware of any issues as regards SL on Twitch. FWIW, I've had more gyp from Facebook who repeatedly flag me up as a spammer for posting my live streams to my own page[s] and YouTube sending me copyright strikes against me for playing my own material but those are stories for another day about badly thought-out and sloppily implemented algorithms / bots used to police the corporate end of the internet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The Twitch page The YouTube page The Facebook page The Twitter page
  12. Where is Abnor's Used Legs Lot? I need to get some spare legs for backup in this new leg-free metaverse.
  13. I remember seeing an advert back in the day of a guy playing a guitar [a Flying-V... I actually own two in RL] to an adoring crowd in Second Life. At the time I was feeling at a bit of a loose end and not really connecting with an audience in RL so I thought I'd give it a try. The first hurdle was that my computer graphics card wasn't up to it and I wasn't until a year later in 2005 that I finally was able to take the plunge and join. Meanwhile depression and burnout put a stop to me doing anything related to music and it wasn't until 2006 that I did my first show in SL. I credit the SL and the people who badgered me into doing those first few shows to getting my mojo going again. I have recorded 9 albums, done countless shows as well a live streaming them to YouTube, Facebook and Twitter since then with plenty more on the horizon. So, thank you Second Life and your weird and wonderful world for being here.
  14. 1] It's no-one's business what my RL details are. 2] People who ask those type of questions have just shown that they do not respect boundaries. 3] Do not share RL information in order to protect yourself from identity thieves, stalkers and scammers. 4] Never fall for the trap where the other party 'shares' information about themself. It's most likely a fabrication / lie to lull their target / mark into sharing personal information. 5] The golden rule in this situation: Just say no, walk away and block / mute the interrogator. 6] If some rando rocks up throwing RL info about yourself at you and/or other people, go straight to Linden Lab and the Police.
  15. I could get into Steampunk although I was going to give the whole SLB thing a miss this year.
  16. I suppose 2048 tier + increased stipend would be nice for a Premium Plus type of account but seeing as I'm scraping through RL life with my regular Premium account it would probably be beyond my means. Also, it would be nice to bring back the lifetime accounts with 4096 tier. I've read all the other suggestions and most of them would have no impact for me. More groups slots wouldn't be a big deal for me as I'm not in that many groups. Maybe a set number of free uploads per month or something along those lines would be useful. Also the ability to own a Homestead sim without having to own a full sim would be nice as well.
  17. Second Life was around before Facebook. It'll still be around when Facebook is gone. @ Chaser Zaks: Active Worlds!!! Iremember when I joined SL back in 2005, one of my neighbours was a migrant from Active Worlds. I took a look around AW and was surprised to find something that had been around since the days of Windows 3.11. I don't think they updated the AW client in a long time.
  18. Is this big enough for you ;-) https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Rins-Titaness-Avatar-v121-update-2022-01-23/20776969
  19. I'd like to see basic mesh editing/creation features added to augment the existing prim building tools. Prims may be 'old tech' but they're still easy to use and easy to understand.
  20. Eh, live music performer here. The few times I've played at other peoples' venues, I might get paid a little bit, maybe something extra in tips. If I like the venue and the people there, I'd probably play for nothing just because The biggest turn-off was the cliquey rat-race of the SL gig circuit... something that I'd hoped to get away from having dealt with that for a lifetime in RL. So I just set up my own venue playing my own stuff which is pretty niche with limited appeal to people and live stream it to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Twitch so I guess the main use for SL for me is to create some visuals to go along with the music I play. Fortunately, I've got all my SL expenses covered so the fact that I make nothing isn't really an issue for me as I need to play regularly just to keep my chops up, practise and all that regular musician sorta stuff. At my age, it's the battle against the inevitable decline of muscle tone. One thing I don't do is hustle for tips. Basically, I just can't be bothered. My worst SL habit is probably not engaging with the audience in chat but it's almost impossible while I'm playing and, because of the way I've set up my tip jar, I have no way of knowing if anyone has tipped me or, if they have, how much they've given me until I log into the SL website and check the transaction history. I do take a look at the list of names at the venue and, if I've got my glasses on, read out their names and welcome the new arrivals between numbers, but that's about it. I get it that some people go into the whole SL club and music thing as a business proposition. It hurts seeing people getting bent out of shape when things don't work out financially. Expect nothing and then anything that comes your way is a step up, I guess. As for DJ's, most of them just seem to have playlists and/or do requests which is OK as far as it goes. I've come across a few over the years who are very creative doing mashups and stuff using Traktor or Virtual DJ, but they're the rarity.
  21. Prices driven skywayrds by idiot Crypto Bros in their never-ending quest for free money 😕 Crypto mining has to the the *****tiest real-world cosplay of in-game grinding. It's literally cooking the planet and eating up resources that could be better applied.
  22. Eh, it'll probably end up being used for real-time targetted marketing :-\
  23. ^^^^ This, 1000 times. ^^^^ For all its faults, SL has solid economical foundations. The slow and steady nature of the SL economy is not going to appeal to the flashy tech bro NFT scammers and would go a long to explaining why SL is being overlooked and/or casually put down. SL's economy is too tightly regulated for scammers to operate. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a fair amount of the hype for this 'new' metaverse is just front-end bait set out by Ponzi scammers looking to hook in new victims.
