  1. Well that's really easy for me. 1. If it's not natural looking dreadlocks, a weave or similar. My alts have different rules - but each has a specific style theme. 2. If it goes in front of the bosom - because once they do that it never fits right from all angles. 3. If it's no-mod. I have my own custom hair color - if I can't mod it, I can't 'color' it away from where it started to fit my look. I usually buy browns / blacks - and add a dash of a dark red in the color swath tool. I also remove all scripts, and if there is a prim inside with a logo - I replace that with the 'default transparency texture' to reduce lag. So... MUST be mod.
  2. There's a part of mainland that was built by a 'major land baron' - the parcel cuts are horrible and the land itself looks as bad as estate land tends to look. Start here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Schwanson Schlegel/128/132/23 And just look around. And here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Key Largo/32/242/40 And the sims around that. - This is what happens when you let someone who's only concern is "make a quick buck" design a portion of mainland... They just don't understanding the idea of making it into a 'place'. Generally though, mainland is better than the vast majority of estate land - including the parts of mainland with old abandoned ugly builds. At least those builds are on places, and not badly cut blocks slammed around to maximize short term profit.
  3. Take a look at this: https://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2016/04/26/mesh-avatar-bosom-comparison/ - Screenshots there comparing the bosom of a number of mesh bodies. Belleza and Maitreya included. I am strongly in favor of Belleza. I find Maitreya just looks weird. As noted above - it responds well across the whole range of shape dials. Once you add in avatar physics the difference gets even more in favor of Belleza. Maitreya does not animate for the butt, and maybe also for the belly. And Maitreya animates 'weirdly' for the bosom is... once again, you dial too far from a baseline... With Belleza I can dial my physics down to zero for tight clothes, and loosen it up as desired for varied clothing... and put the sliders all at full 100 for 'running around naked' - and it still works fine across the whole range. It is still lacking bento hands... they are supposedly coming out "real soon now"... When they do they will likely be done vastly better than anyone else... that is the Belleza trend after all... but since they are not yet out... no one can guarantee on that. My review of Belleza is a whole version behind...: https://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2015/09/13/belleza-v3-mesh-body-review/ And I stopped in mid-planning for a Maitreya review when I starting finding so many flaws I knew I'd be in for a flame war if I posted it... (but I do still speak my mind on it often). My opinion IS always open to change though. The above is actually my second Belleza review. The first one widely slammed the body back when it was new. One update later and they flipped everything around and have been top quality since. I won't link it... but with a little checking you can find my flickr. I won't link it because I mostly post nude shots of my avatar. However for the past several years those have almost all been while wearing Belleza, and because they're mostly nudes you can see the body in a variety of poses and get an idea from there, perhaps, as to why I like it so much.
  4. This is why it is always best to hang out in clothing optional 'bring your own brand of kink' venues... If you don't rez fast enough for somebody there... they just think you have a weird sense of style, or they offer some sexxy time, or both...
  5. Yes that's exactly what I was thinking. Couple it with perhaps "one of the two accounts will be 'locked' for 6 months. Essentially you "pay" to ban one of your alts. I'd do it like this. You pick an account to transfer from, and one to transfer to. Everything in the inventory of the from gets handed to the to, and everything in the to gets handed to the from... and then the "from" is an account that is "banned from SL" for 6 months. Anything actually rezzed stays owned by who it was owned by... (having the system scan the entire grid's database for all things belonging to UUID "somebody" in a modern database would take... about 0.1ms... but SL isn't a modern database...) so this service would have to come with a big warning screen you have to click through a few times telling you "hey you're about to LOSE everything you have rezzed in SL... are you OK with that? Go pick it up if not." And then an "are you really sure about this?" screen... And... once you do it... to undo it, you'd have to "prove to LLs" that both your accounts had been hacked, through the 2-factor authentication system. (it is now known to be possible to hack 2-factor authentication... it requires some serious shenanigans that are a bit similar to a pack of guys in sunglasses in a van just to the left of your smartphone... but it can be done - basically is somebody has hacked your two-factor authentication you have much bigger problems than your SL account... you have problems that end in places like GITMO or meeting some of Putin's friends in the "vaping" or Concrete industry).
  6. I use square pictures for my profile for this reason. If a third party viewer is then choosing the stretch it sideways... that's on that viewer, even if it does happen to be the one I use. The default norm now is a square (and actually has been now for about half of SLs lifespan). I consider it a 'bug' that Firestorm hasn't updated this. Even if their 'excuse' is that they're just allowing access to the legacy profile - by doing so the bug is not fixing it to use the modern aspect ratio for profile images.
  7. I keep them apart. I am much more political in RL than in SL. Also SL is very 'ethnic' of an ethnic group ("white people") that I don't see as much of in RL where they are not that numerous and those here are radically different due to multiculturalism - I have to 'code talk' a lot more in SL or deal with freakouts when I speak more openly. Plus because SL is so 'ethnic' from my POV, there are a lot of things like fashion, decor, and music styles that I just don't see in RL where I am. I couldn't replicate that in my RL even if I tried. For me SL is a bit like a 'National Geographic portal' into gawking at what white people look/act like when 'not around the rest of us' (aka: what they're like outside of California I suppose). I find many situations in SL where I am sitting there thinking "I have no idea how to respond to that... that was just totally weird" - in terms of just "different", not in terms of discrimination. More like somebody saying 2+2=green - your mental frame expected one thing but you got something wholly different. There's a vast list of things I do do in SL that reflect idealized fantasizes about how I wish the world lived in RL, but do not attempt at all in RL. Things that in RL would make a target of somebody's "panic attack at that freaky person of color" (even here in Cali) and invite armed attention... Not spending as much time lately. My social circle in SL has dwindled down to 'contacts' after drifting apart from early friends and one friend passing away. So even when on I'm usually not active. Just kind of on my own on my SL lands. SL did effect my RL in a major way... a notecard I once picked up 'filled a gap' in my understanding of Reggae... that led me to understand what 'Rasta' was, and then to realize that I had been one since my teens... curiously since about the time I first heard Reggae. So SL... outed my RL 'religion' to myself... But the notecard... really just got me to the point where I had an itch to scratch and went out in RL to find out how to scratch it. Going back to how I act in SL vs RL... the whole nude and xxx aspect of my SL, is NOT something that would sit well with this aspect of my RL... Almost everyday in SL my fingers hover over the delete button for every aspect of that side of my SL... and then I decide this is a safe way to blend two radically different aspects of my personality. I don't do SL relationships and never have. Not even back in the days when my circle of 'friend friends' was large. I've lost a friend or two over refusing, but I am fine with that. I do not need to get my emotions confused between my RL and a 'video game'. I am fully open to friendships, but that's where I hold the line. Not really sure why SL matters to me. It does... but it's not easy to codify. Really don't care what other people are doing in SL when I'm not online. It's not like I need to have all my mesh body friends gearing up for a raid on the new tier of Furry Castle or something... or preparing for a PvP match against the system bodiers... so... why worry. On the other hand, I don't exactly turn off my security orb when I go offline... Too much hassle, and I don't need someone starting to squat in my skybox and thinking they belong there when I come on. EDIT: On phrasing. If you wonder why I use phrases like 'ethnic' to describe white culture, and note how SL is like a 'National Geographic outing' for me. Consider how often you will see things labeled as 'ethnic' when referring to non-whites, or how we get called 'exotic' for frankly... just being our normal everyday selves. I'm not 'ethnic' or 'exotic', I'm a person that gets up in the morning, has breakfast, does my daily routine - works, food, family, etc, and goes to sleep at night...
  8. The 10% bonus works with a non-premium alt... That bonus adds up as you tier up - I've bought entire plots of land with it before. Pretty sure I'm not the only one who has used non-premium alts for that purpose. I do presently have 2 premium accounts, but haven't always done so.
  9. It's like one of the first programs you will learn to write in a coding class... string manipulation. They could add a simple bit of code to SL to keep both single and multi names. something akin to: if (!displayName) { screenName = firstName; if (lastName == "Resident") screenName += ""; else screenName += (" " + lastName); } else screenName = displayName; Everybody who currently has resident keeps it, future accounts would have lastnames... and one choice among the lastnames would be "none" that would set it to "Resident". They could add to this... a paid serve to swap inventories of two accounts - regardless of perms. Both accounts would be required to have two-factor authentication and use the same email and same 'payment info on file' on them for the service to be used. Essentially this would be a "retire my old account and move to a new one" service... - it could come with two warnings on it: 1. Pick up everything you rezzed in SL, it won't be swapped unless it is in inventory. 2. Anything given or sold to others will refer to the old account. If you wish to be contacted - you will need to note that in your old account profile. - Because I suspect LL's database is so messed up it can't handle a simple pointer change from one UUID to another... otherwise they would have done that LONG ago...
  10. There is no code in LSL that can analyze your layers of system clothing. This is a bit like my recent rant in another thread over meters that measure 'avatar complexity' - there is no function in LSL to measure that either... people use a bit of code that measures ARC and then tell you it's complexity, but that's like serving you pasta and saying "enjoy the espresso".
  11. A floating brain is pretty much a dead giveaway of a laggy person... if you're using a brand of mesh head that has modeled a brain inside the head that is not supposed to even ever show... you're walking around lagging up the place. As for the venue objecting to a visitors undergarmets... Frankly I don't care if it's their "right" under the TOS to dictate that, they are still out of line and rude.
  12. I wish there was a way to 'hand back' a name of an alt you no longer want. If there was I would likely have a few dozen more alts made and deleted over the years... As is... I have long strongly suspected that a vast number of very good names were forever lost to SL the day we switched to single names... as people made accounts just to see what names they could get... and then never used them. I think I've got about 6 of those... I don't even remember most of them... and I made a LOT less than some folks I saw because this issue occurred to me pretty quickly. I don't think any of us actually believed SL would later refuse to undo the single name issue...
  13. Put yourself and your alt into a group that ONLY has you and your alt. Deed all your land tier to that group, and you will get 10% more tier for free. - That's the biggest reason to have an alt.
  14. I know this is not what land barons and estate holders WANT to hear... but SL as a whole will be a LOT healthier if people 'reclaim' mainland. Mainland presents a large unified world experience. It is better for SL is estates are left to the large actors with the resources to likewise make their estates into unified 'themed' experiences. (unfortunately that doesn't address the issue that the largest estate holder holds a massive quanitity of unthemed estates that are rented out after often being sliced in horrible cuts with no connected theme and no management to step in and care about laggy builds dragging neighbors down... A certain massive estate company is actually selling a product less cared for than the Lindens do for Mainland.) I would say the same thing about mainland land barons - but I don't see how they can easily policy push this. Good for SL would be to push the land baron that does those red hearts "out of business" and prop UP land barons like... shocking to some here, Prok - that give unified themes. Encouraging people to go premium is just good for SL in many ways. We as residents come 'back together' if we're residing together. And the funding for SL is more stable if it's being funded by a lot of 'small sources' rather than a few big ones. This I suspect is why so much of the push over the last decade has been towards marketplace. I suspect a large portion of their revenue is now driven by people buying $L to spend on Marketplace rather than by land holdings. But pushing the land holding side of that towards 'small holders' with premium accounts only helps make it healthier. SL can afford to lose a few thousand premium accounts - and the more it has the more it can handle that loss. But one or two of the massive land barons leaving SL could put ALL of us into "Blue Mars / Cloud Party" territory...
  15. Excuse me WTF? I've been here since 2006, 2009 on this account. I've had Linden Homes a few times, I've had premium land since 2009. I didn't "just find out" anything. I've known exactly how land works in SL for years. I've been trying to clarify your options to you... but you seem to be possessed of some attitude over the very fact that they are giving you more now than you used to get... Maybe I misread... but we're all trying to HELP you make the most of this gift - showing you your potential options. Don't get testy with us over that.
  16. You've actually got even more control on a mainland plot. You can even be like my annoying neighbor on my A-land water plot that put up banlines and built a 'sewage build' on the water... - Now she gets to live with my 30m tall brick wall between us. Or you can put your home up above 4000m in the sky, and put a security orb in it, and never be bothered by anyone ever again - what I do on my home plot. Or well... anything else you desire.
  17. Horizons feels like an attempt to recreate Bay City. But the success of Bay City is largely due to a few key residents that decided to make a community out of it and who also work cooperatively (rather than argumentatively) with the lindens. Horizons just... doesn't even have residents. It has land sellers. And me. I'm there. All alone... surrounded by land sellers. And this one guy on the other end of the same sim who stands on his roof AFK. He doesn't even have the decency to perv me... It also has some 5 info hubs... because reasons... and in the middle the 'new version of Linden Realms' that some people AFK at the entrance to. I can't see a community ever coming to an 'A' rated region though... you're all happily building one and somebody come along with an extremely different theme and there goes the friendly vibes. But the plots and layout are nice.
  18. How is that odd? There is a LOT of unsold mainland out there. Now people can get twice as much of it as before, for the same basic premium price - and a tier bump up is cheaper. Add to this that the Linden Homes are made using a lot of older, less optimized features like sculpties on the sims, and don't do much to encourage people to wander out and 'do things with others'. The cost of getting a 1024 piece of land... is tiny... I myself sold several of them a few months ago, several for as little as 3,000L. I wanted to tier down - so I sliced up some waterfront land I had and sold it off. - such land is all over SL. It's much better for SL to get people filling in all of that land again. The grid will just look and feel healthier. The Linden Home system was counter productive to the overall grid. Premium users were 'suburbanized' - and away from the 'action'. You won't pay more... you will just buy a plot one time, if you so choose. And if not... you're just sitting on 512m of unused tier because you think spending $5-10 US is "too much"... and that is odd thinking...

  20. Have you ever considered that the intention of the content might not be to 'farm money' but to create a story... and the attention it is getting now is designed to 'fix' the 'problem' of people playing it only for cash? That in essence... all we have here is two feuding camps of people that are BOTH using it improperly, and with a story being expanded out, they hope to attract the intended audience. I actually DID play the quests of this thing way back when it first came out. Not all the way though. As is my nature, I got sidetracked.
  21. Good luck with that. The intention of this whole thing is likely in part to get people OFF of Linden Homes.
  22. Most clothing does reveal bits of the body here and there. This is one reason my primary mesh body is Belleza Freya Light. That's the version of Freya without the layers and some other features. It's ideal for wearing with clothing that isn't a burqa (or suit or similar). I am able to retain a quality look where the body does show - and don't need the 'weight of features' as other parts are clothed. The other brands that offer this choice are the copy/mod ones like SelinA and Lena. Or the furry ones (which are almost ALL copy/mod). In fact I only use the 'full' version when I specifically need it. BUT... a LOT of clothes tends to reveal skin here and there - and for this kind of fashion, the mesh body is still very useful.
  23. You mean I've been doing it wrong this whole time? Here's one of the most recent of my clothed looks:
  24. One of my longest terms friends in SL, that I have lost touch with, is/was a Tiny. That is one of those old 'micro animals' - they were made with prims mostly. Rarely sculpty, and only a few mesh were made in the early days of mesh. Unless I was shopping at builder stores, we really had very little in common in SL. I'd often just hang out on her build platform and chat while she was making plants and gardening stuff. That lack of common SL interests is why I eventually just drifted off. I tried pretty hard to get her to try even a furry of the animal type she used - so we could do some fashion shopping... but the interest wasn't there. Now with shopping... sure there is mesh or system clothes they can wear, and clothes I can wear... but the two are not usually the same. And if they can't or won't even buy a mesh body... there's some doubt they'll actually be interested in SL shopping. As someone up-thread noted... it's about someone looking 'unkempt'. If someone looks like they purposefully don't take care of themselves... it's a bit off putting especially if you're shopping fashion / health / etc. And that carries into SL as well. - That analogy feel to 'class based' for my liking... but if you take it a step further away it sort of fits. The person refusing to get mesh is showing a visible sign of not maintaining. Maybe they still look good in a system look. Maybe I still look good in the bell bottoms and high pants I had in the 70s (except I was 5... THOSE pants might not fir anymore... )... But maybe I'd also just look unkempt... for lack of a better term. I know the term 'unkempt' is loaded for this... I have edited this post multiple times trying to find a better way to describe this... Hoping my 70s analogy gets it better... 'dated'... 'common interests' really helps for this too...
