  1. Much as I like Belleza, both the male and female are the best bodies on the market; those low render weights are from a trick using LOD and triangles in the low LODs. It renders still because it's attached.
  2. This is why my flickr gallery first started getting posts. This button: Will take your screenshot and put it on flickr instead of the feeds.
  3. I do think the person that banned you seriously over-reacted IF we assume this was the ONLY interaction the two of you had. But land owners can do what they want in terms of access to their land. Anytime you ask someone a question; just stop and think of how you'd like it if you got asked that question 100 times a day by random strangers.
  4. Yes. I was just trying to avoid saying it that directly... I see things like "Handmaids Tail" imagined as this horrible future and I'm like - well that's just everyone else's last few centuries. I remember when they used to call human trafficking 'white slavery' - which always confused me because most of the victims are not white... it was the media's way of trying to make it seem 'horrible enough to be criminal' back in the 70s and 80s... which just made things worse - because it sounded like they were really saying "this time you should care because we found a white victim." A few years after seeing "The Matrix", when I was in a class learning the history of Urban Renewal and how the Housing Projects of the USA were made by using eminent domain to take land from black land-owning families and then put them in government buildings to 'better their lives'... typically done anywhere you could put a freeway and a line of hotels and industrial businesses on the other side of the freeway from the Projects... It just clicked that, intended or not, The Matrix is another one of these stories of 'what goes around comes around' (as the link you provided would have described this kind of SciFi). I don't think these authors are sitting in a room and coming up with this theme, over and over again, on purpose. So it speaks to something else going on in the collective psych of these writers.
  5. If you sit down and think of it... the AI in The Matrix could easily have been given the exact same plot... and then called itself a benevolent caretaker of humanity. The Matrix knows what is best for you, and will give you the perfect paradise to live in based on all of its machine learning of human desire and nature. - Frankly, as a person of color; from colonialism to reservations to urban renewal to project housing - all of this was done in the name of 'improving the lot and lives of savages'. These giant AIs that take over the world in Sci Fi... for some of us that is basically what the real world has been like for the past few centuries. I imagine that if an AI were to ever 'take over' it would do so out of a sense of duty to protect humans from themselves.
  6. This event usually only has 1 or 2 styles total that I like. Thanks for linking the blog post though - I think I already found one of them. I have been so busy in RL events like this skipped my mind... good thing this one lasts a little while so I will have time to get through it.
  7. One side of my family has been here and been backwoods long enough to not know when they got here. This is the side who's family story almost completely fails to match our DNA. Given what part of the US these folks lived in before the 1930s - I would not be surprised if some generations back somebody 'hid' and married out... These folks were deeply racist, and the ones still 'back in Appalachia' that we found not long back, still are... If I ran down the list of the people they hate, and then the list of what DNA says they are - there's a very strong correlation, not just with the African parts too... And yes, they claim to be Irish/Cherokee... Some few years back I even got into a months long argument on the SL forums with someone over why a Cherokee might not be 'listed' on the native registry but still be Cherokee. The DNA results of 2 years ago for me, sadly tell me the reason was not the one I had been told... The other side is one generation removed from South America (Quechua are mountain Amazons related to the Inca) and one more from China. This side of my family also hides lineage because being listed as a Quechua Indian can STILL get you targeted by the government down there. But now that I see my grandmother - the story of her being Quechua itself seems fuzzy. I suspect she is the one thing that would have been worse here, but better there: black and Indian together. Parts of South America explain ALL of their social problems with 3 words: too many Indians. Social programs often up with one plan: get rid of some indians. Mysteries could be in store on both ends. I grew up in Chicano inner city hoods - and I look more or less latina / mulatto. So I tended to get grouped with them by outsiders and police. By my teens a lot of Central and South Americans were moving in - people I should be 'connected to', but to whom I was culturally cut off from.
  8. On my 'return' to SL in 2009, the first place I went to was a 'free sex and camp for L$' venue. It was something with the name 'Hard' or 'Neva' in it along with beach or city... - The place was also very old even when I got there in 2009. 'now trying' is a relative term when newbie places have been catering to 'pervs' probably since the first community built venue ever opened. And a lot more of us came here as pervs than might seem to be pervs now... (sometimes we also come about full or partial circle - I recently even recreated a mesh version of my old week one 'naked sex fiend with kinky gear' outfit, though I've not decided to jump on the poseballs again, it was a fun exercise to see if I could redo the theme, only better). Usually when somebody tells me they've never been nude or on a poseball in SL, I wonder if I should follow up with 'so what about your alt then?'
  9. Yes I have been paying attention to that too. Apparently many Native American people 'fail' to show any Native ancestry on some of these tests due to lack of data points. So it is possible I have Cherokee... but I now consider the amount likely to be so small that it would be unjust to cultural Cherokee for me to claim it. The link you provide however, just notes that the details are overstated. It might be unlikely that they can say the 500sq-mile spot in Nigeria part of me is from (but not impossible - if that area is sufficiently outside of major trade routes, which is true for some parts of Nigeria), they CAN be pretty sure that ancestor was from somewhere in Nigeria.
  10. My experience everytime I went to an 'interracial' sim in SL. Being mixed, before I came to SL, the word 'interracial' to me just meant myself and those like me... I had no idea it was a kind of racist porn involving white women pretending to be raped by black men... Now that I see that form of porn all over SL... it's quite disturbing. And as someone on a black avatar, who is also almost always nude in SL... I worry about being wrapped up in seen as a part of it... I suspect this is played a part in turning me 'off' of the 'SL sex' scene. One of several reasons... The people in such venues also use a kind of 'fake ebonics / jive' blend talk that is just disgusting to see scroll past on my chat bar... At least once when someone was lining up an attack on me, I was linked with that - but clearly from someone who didn't even know me, as they stated they hated those people that 'talk funny and act gangster' or something like that... SL does take to an extreme the issue that happens in RL, which in RL I encounter as an 'hispanic / mulatto' appearing person - that people of color are judged as a category and people who are Caucasian appearing get judged individually for their own conduct and traits.
  11. I need to find out about those. My mother had a DNA test and I recall seeing on a map a small 500sq-mile part of Nigeria where I have roots from her side. I need to get my own DNA test done because I saw a photo of my Paternal Grandmother for the first time recently (passed away before I was born - grandparents had my father very late in life) and that nose she has... explains my own nose... but also only comes from one continent. I roughly identify as mulatto - and the family story would place me as a Chinese / Quechua mix on one side, and Irish / Cherokee / Portuguese on the other. But DNA has told us that 'Irish' comes from Sweden, the Cherokee from Nigeria and Afghanistan... and the Portuguese comes from Morocco. Somebody got some 'splain'n to do, if they were still alive... One half of my ancestry was a complete lie. There's a mystery great-grandparent in there (great-grandmother threw my grandmother into an orphanage at birth and refused to ID the father), but even that isn't enough to explain it. This puts me in the awkward position in the last few years of finding ancestry among a set of people I had a deep fondness for but thought I had no connection to, and yet also finding I have no ancestry among a set of people I had felt a kinship to and desired to find connections with. A people always have a right to name themselves. No one else can ever have the right to pick their name for them.
  12. I will second (or third or whatever) this. I recall the exact same training. Followed this up at university by the way with some concrete examples. In an international law class on the European Court we went over a case of a Serbian soldier ordered to kill some muslim men. He was the third guy to refuse the order. The other two had just been shot and killed by his commander right in front of him... He was threatened with the same... and then complied. He killed 5 muslim captives. The court found him guilty of a war crime. A soldier MUST disobey an unlawful order - even when doing so means their own death. He was, as a mitigating factor, a draftee. He did not want to serve to begin with. We debated for an hour over this - and I was the only one there who agreed with the sentence. As a veteran, I know the duty. The civilians felt he should have been let off - half of them just because of the threat of his death, the other half because he was drafted. But for me, if there was an unlawful order that he should have disobeyed to avoid this situation, it was complying with being drafted. Once he was out there serving as a soldier, he was subject to the rules of international law. - And that is where this rule about unlawful orders comes from. It is from the Geneva conventions. The US is bound to it by treaty law - which is higher than any other law until the moment Congress votes in a law to reject a treaty it had previously passed.
  13. For dance HUDs I recommend Akeyo if you MUST use one. But if you are on Firestorm, just make a Firestorm AO, give it a name you can remember, and put all your dances into 'stand' - then put something you like into walk and run, and maybe turning... - And you will now have an always ready dance system that will work anywhere, anytime.
  14. Wouldn't strict requirements violate privacy laws in the EU and parts of Asia? i.e.: in the free world?
  15. I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to original poster for letting me know, with absolute certainty, why I DO NOT WANT a Red Lite Center account. So, um... Thank you.
  16. No. Since I'm almost always nude, and on BOTH 'M' and 'A' land - even though I've been premium since I got my account this would just seriously limit where I could go and who I could interact with. I would hate to be cut off from everyone I know who doesn't have a premium account. Not only that, but 'nudity' is also not always 'sex' or 'Adult rated'. I think most of our animation control and avatar control kits in SL started as or were inspired by a desire to compete with or replace 'sexxy time toys'.
  17. Bring those Jake concerns up on their inworld group a few times, until somebody with a bolded name responds: secondlife:///app/group/716bedc0-18e1-5cd7-dc85-46989a17d637/about
  18. I log in with grand plans to do some stuff, get online and see lots of things that need doing... and end up achieving neither. And then repeat that the next day.
  19. Yes but that limited number is kinda high. Like 30 or 40 or maybe more I think. I've only ever hit it when doing that old accident of right clicking and trying to wear my entire inventory... I've never hit it on an actual composed outfit. And I think I burn through the first 8-12 attachments just with my body and neko parts... That said, about 5 years or more ago, the limit was a LOT lower than it is now.
  20. It is basic lack of knowledge about anatomy. Hand and foot size: Feet: https://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2011/06/15/getting-good-body-proportions-in-second-life/ - But guides for years have told people to just set hands to 20 or 23, and feet to 0. Feet to 0 was for the old days when you had to fit them inside sculpty shoes that themselves were usually way too small. Hands at 20 or 23... I have no idea. Somebody was smoking the bad stuff and everybody listened to them... Also note that the 35 I used in the screenshot above, might work for me, but not you. Look at how I got that number instead... That or... the original advice was written by a New York Hotel Mogul and grandson of a pimp & drug kingpin... PS: Oh and it looks like I need to update my feet section to mention fitmesh feet that respond to shape dials... and that some brands don't respond... and this is important in making a purchasing decision... And I should probably update that screenshot of the hands to use some modern bento or fitmesh hands...
  21. If you can't own all the no-auto return land around you... You can fill it. I have often gone to every parcel around me and filled all the no-auto return places with simple 1 land impact prims all named something like "please turn on your return or turn off your open build perms" - and left them somewhere like 4000m in the sky. Such prims almost never get returned to me... if they do, it is usually a year or so down the line... when somebody else bought the plot... But it stops the problem.
  22. The new avatar ban thing happens to block out people that create spam accounts, trolling accounts, etc... It is dumb... if you ever watch trolls and spam griefers - most of them are rather old accounts... But that is their reason. And It's been around since I got here. My 8th rezzday was yesterday... and yet I still remember the day when 'no avatars under 30 days' places stopped ejecting me... - Not a single one of them, once I could get in, was actually worth going to. As to getting bitter or talking smack or whatever... a lot of us, self included, and the OP; go through a phase like that. Sometimes repeatedly... and then we end up spending time living it down...
  23. Outside of the 3rd world, where can you pay only $600L a month rent in the real world? That is like what... just under $2.50... And even $600 USD... that is basically rent in Mexico or poorer. I pay over $4000 USD / month... I'd love to pay my SL tier bill as my real life bill...
  24. Even though SLB has been a shopping event for years... it always pretended to also be a community event. It had concerts, meetings, talks, and a general 'showing off your place and your homies' kinda vibe to it. I'm kinda sad that all that is left this year is "buy my loot".
